Don't just look for the college with the best name, or the cheapest. Look for a place that feels like home, a school that has the major that you are most interested in. Don't judge the living groups based on what you have heard, check them out for yourselves. When they offer weekends or weekdays just for highschool seniors GO. That is the best time for you to experiance what the college is really like. Meet with the teachers and visit the campus multiple times. If you want to stay close to home go at least 2 hours away. Thats close enough for you to make weekend trips but far enough for you to get the real college experiance. When you do find the right college don't question it, just go with the flow. It will take you on a life long journey. Have fun, you are only there for a short while, and I promise, it will go by fast.

When searching for a college the most important part other than making sure that your college has the major you want is the location of the college. If you are a city person it is important to your mental health to find a place in the city. Same as if you like being out of the city. Make sure that you are comforatable with the location. It will help you be more comforatable with yourself and make it easier to make friends.

When considering your post-high school education options, spend more time evaluating the students at the school rather than the school itself --- those are the people you'll be spending several hours each day with. Hopefully, you know what career you're interested and you can focus your energy evaluating that particular department of the college. I have found, in many university cases, that there is a very wide range of quality when comparing departments accross a campus. Also, take into account the cost of living at that location. More learning takes place outside of the classroom than within the coursework. If you must work full time during the week, you will have less time for the more important aspects of your college experience. If you're unable to take advantage of leadership opportunities, volunteer activities, and internships within your dream-career, you're not building your professional employability or your character.

I would tell the parents not to pressure your student in choosing a school let the school choose your student. Students find a place that when you got there you fell in love with the place. Go on a campus tour of the college's you are thinking about applying to. If you do not like the college don't waste your time or money applying to that college.

Andrew

John

Get involved with your school. There is so much out there to do that it's hard to believe you have time for classes. Diversify yourself while keeping an open mind and you'll discover friendships you thought you would never have.

Jerry
