There is a great diversity of students here at UIS. There are many international students and I think the campus is really growing culturally. It is still a young campus, but it seems like UIS faculty are working hard to really make it a culturally rich campus.

Matthew

While most of my classmates at UIS are Caucasian, I feel that there is a good amount of minority representation in the classroom(s), with many African American, Middle-Eastern, Hispanic, and Asian students.

Simone

College classmates are so much better! My classmates are extremely focused during class. They all enjoy working as a team and college classmates are very dedicated due to the fact that many instructors are not interested in any excuses. My classmates are nice to one another and the learning process is great. My classmates are very helpful and we constantly have study sessions outside of normal class time. They are always willing to lend a helping hand.

Emmerson

There are many racial, religious, LGBT, socio-economic groups on campus. And non of them are restricted. I mean if you like to know about a particular religion though you don't belong to that religion you can still be a member of that group which is very nice.

Andy

UIS is always trying to make its campus as welcoming and friendly as possible. There are are lots of clubs for all kinds of interests from sports, movies, theatre, political affiliations, to celebrating different cultures. And, aside from a few minor spats between the campus liberals group and the campus conservatives group, we've all been able to get along very well. There's a spot for everyone. There's a healthy LGBT community at UIS, and the QSA (Queer Straight Alliance) provides all kinds of fun and informative activities all year round to make students feel welcome and safe. Many students at UIS are commuters or transfer students, so in each class there may be 4-year students right out of high school, students returning after a few years to finish their degree, or people just wanting to take an evening class on a topic that interests them. Students of all ages are to be found, though as UIS's reputation as a 4-year college grows, so do the number of young students after their bachelor's degree. At UIS there are many opportunities to meet all kinds of different people from all walks of life, and its one of my favorite things about this campus.

Samantha

They are all very nice and are willing to help in any situation if they can.

Valencia
