What are the most popular student activities/groups?

It's a pretty quiet campus, but it's really changing. I've been a student at UIS for three years and there are more on-campus students every year. There are more and more social events every year that UIS does. Weekends can be quiet, but they are quiet on most campuses.

UIS campus has several spots to hang out and plenty to do. There are two cafes on campus, the Food Emporium (cafeteria), our TRAC (exercise/recreation building - sorry no pool), the student center where you can play pool and air hockey or watch TV on a big screen, art shows for students and visiting artists, weekly star-gazing opportunities in the UIS Observatory, the library, and of course UIS is loaded with clubs. And, if somehow a student is unable to find a club that suits their needs, it is VERY easy to start a club on your own. I even co-founded one my freshman year! The campus is really cooperative when working with new and prospective clubs, and every week there are new events and activities from various groups to keep campus moving. We've also got several sports teams, including baseball, softball, soccer, and basketball. We don't have a football team just yet, but that doesn't stop us from having annual homecoming festivities. There's a band, an orchestra, and several choirs on UIS campus as well. These groups are open to the community, which is a very interesting experience, but students at UIS are given credit for their time in their ensembles if they make sure to register for it. There are currently no sororities or fraternities at UIS. However, there are almost always various activities going on around campus every week, and every week students receive e-mails detailing exactly what sort of events are being planned. UIS is very encouraging of student interaction.
