One of the most iconic parts of the University of Illinois is its appearance. The Quad, which is where most undergraduate classes are, is a rectangular grassy area lined by historic buildings. The most beautiful time to be on campus is in the fall. The trees change color and the Quad truly looks like a postcard. Some other famous places on campus are the bell tower at Altgeld Hall, which performs a chimes concert every afternoon, Follinger Auditorium, which looks beautiful lit up at night, and the Japan House, with a variety of breathtaking landscape architecture techniques.

Very large and over-encumbering, but in reality the campus can even seem small at times. There are just enough people for you to find your own identity and not feel lost.

Chris

The school is located in 2 towns. Wright Street is the dividing line. To the east (Urbana) is 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the campus buildings, the quad, and a lot of the research buildings. There is a lot of tradition and history to the campus buildings. There are some renovations going on in some of the buildings currently in order to update them to have a more modern look. The north part of campus is where there is a major research building and the Engineering quad. The South Part of campus is where the Business buildings are. The center is where the general education courses take place as well as numerous upper level courses. The Business Building is very new and has a very modern look. The west part of campus (Champaign) contains the majority of apartments, dorms, and houses that students live in This is the more social part of campus during the nights and weekends. There is always something going on in this area. There are apartments on the Urbana side but that is a more quiet area, and way to the east, contains sororities but no parties are allowed there. Most fraternities are on the Champaign side. The sports complex resides on the Southwest side of campus and South part of campus. The campus always has something going on, and I cannot forget Green Street. Green street is a street that goes through the center of campus and contains many restaurants and local businesses. It always is busy! Oh, the bars can be found near Green Street, too. The only part I forgot was the north side of campus (north part of Champaign), and this contains more apartments that students live in. Usually upperclassmen live in these apartments.

Personally, with the red brick buildings on some parts of campus and the looming bell tower, I feel like I'm in England. The campus is simply beautiful and goes on for miles. After all, it does span over two towns. A micro-urban strip pops up as you head past the Illini Union, and it makes you feel like you are in a mini Chicago, without all the speeding traffic.

Emily

Our school looks pretty big! But being a tour guide on campus, it has been brought to my attention that we don't have the 15 floor buildings that other schools do, making the campus appear smaller. Our campus would look continuous, you don't have to go through part of town to get to the other parts of campus. It would look like a prestigious school as most of the buildings are brick and usually match. Most prospective students tell me that the campus look big, but manageable.

Philip

Immaculate. The Quad is beautiful. There are large buildings all over campus that promote big ideas and encourage a student's passion for major accomplishments. It is a big campus that offers a whole ton of resources, from academic to fun times out to grabbing something to eat.

Our school huge, and even that's and understatement. Almost everyone I've talked to about the size of our campus agrees- it goes on for days! Stepping foot on campus for the first time, I remember seeing beautiful buildings and lots of unfamiliar faces. It's easy to be swallowed up in the immense size of our student population, not to mention most of your classes are at least a quarter-mile away. Imagine walking down Michigan Ave. in Chicago IL., or even going down a typical street in Manhattan, NY. Now replace the honking taxis and skyscrapers with grass and brick architecture... and a lot of orange shirts: you're at U of I.

Dillon

It has a lot, a lot, of brick buildings. We like our bricks at Illinois. The quad is green and verdant, except in winter, naturally. There are lots of trees and a small army of squirrels- it's whispered around campus that squirrels outnumber people at least 3-to-1. If it ever comes to war, each of us will have to fight 3 squirrels, basically. A handful of cutting-edge buildings rise out of the otherwise quaint, smalltown campus. The streets are, always covered in students walking and biking here and there, and cars and C-U MTD buses drive along. It's a mix of the old (the school's been here since 1867) and new, as we all come together and get our learning on.

Katherine

Depending on where you are, our campus can look extremely different. The area around the Quad, where the majority of our classes are held, is very pretty - lots of old brick buildings, big trees, and flowers. It's maintained well and intially reminded me of something out of colonial times. Head west of the Quad and you're in Champaign - where things start to get more modern, and more student centered. There are a lot of houses and apartments over here, most of which don't look particularly "new". Most of the frats and a good portion of the sororities are over here as well. Things can get a little dingy here at times ( think beer cans rolling around in the street), but it's more just like a town that hasn't been renovated in a few years. It's not perfect, but there's nothing wrong with it. The one exception is Green Street, where everything is very new and updated. East of the quad is Urbana, which has a feel similar to that of Quad. Lots of the roads are brick, the houses are old and unique, and everyone rides their bike where they need to go. It has less of a "college-party" feel and seems more like the place where professors live and spend their time. It get's the stigma that the "hipsters" live there and the people who like to party live in Champaign.

UIUC is a giantic school where I can broaden my experiences and academics while being given the opportunity and resources to succeed.

Lily

I've grown up around Champaign-Urbana my whole life, so sometimes it's hard to think about how first-time visitors might view campus. I think it's pretty, but some of the buildings have that distinctive (ahem, ugly) 1960's look to them, especially some of the residence halls. But, as a whole, there are a lot of things to appreciate about campus as well. The Main Quad is probably the most notable landmark on campus. It's a huge grassy expanse with sidewalks crisscrossing between the class buildings that surround it. The Illini Union bounds it to the north, and Foellinger auditorium lies to the south. The Union is a beautiful building both inside and out, and it's a great place to relax or nap between classes. Foellinger is massive and a bit intimidating, but it's used for a lot of classes and special events or concerts on campus. The other buildings around the quad include Altgeld Hall which looks like an old castle, the English Building complete with its gorgeous white columns, and Davenport Hall, Noyes Lab, and Lincoln Hall, all of which were built in the early 1900's. But why are you reading this when you could be looking at pictures? Go!

To someone who has never laid eyes on Illinois' campus before, it looks royal. All of the brick buildings and tall trees evoke an impressive atmosphere. Students can feel the Illini spirit in the air as they walk through the historic structures and sit in classrooms that generations of successful Illinois students have also sat in.
