University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Top Questions

It is on the dividing line of two towns, Champaign and Urbana, the two towns though separate have their own unique characteristics and also have very differnt personalities. Since I have lived on both sides of campus, it has been fun to see how they differ and the wide variety of living arrangements and social groups spread out throughout campus. The U of I is also a big 10 school which I was very drawn to, I loved the big size, and the number of opportunities that are available.

University of Illinois has all the advantages of a Big Ten school, but also supplies students with a community feeling, letting students feel apart of their school and want to take advantage of what is going on on campus.

It is large but is very compact and the campus is very close together.

This school has a good environment for learning. People here try hard and are at the top of their feilds in what they study. It is a nice blend between sports and school loyalty and academics.

It has a mixture of everything from resteraunts to different environments (cornfields to downtown life)

We have a ridiculous amount of school spirit and everyone is always so alive and has so much energy.

It's very large, and closer to home than I was planning on.

The University Of Illinois has something for everyone! I was involved in sport, mentoring, greek, social, and religious activities all at the same time. No one will judge you for being yourself at U of I. We have so much school spirit around campus and I always feel pride when I put on my orange and blue. During class you can get to know so many new people because there are so many new people to get to know. Our professors are experts in there areas and always give us the cutting edge information!

The University of Illinois offers an extremely vast amount of opportunities including acedemics, sports, and social. There are many students to meet in the area, most of which are extremely friendly. EVERYONE will find a group of people to be friends with, without any exceptions. Everything is in walking distance, but the busses are so easy and convienient it blows my mind. There is also a plethera of restaurants in the area to eat at between classes or even go on dates too. The dorm food, too, is simply fantastic.

Talk about whether or not U of I has met my expectations

The few things I noticed about scholarships.

At the end of the day Illinois is the best place to be. There are so many options of things to do and different kinds of people to meet. It is a research institution which only puts us at the cutting edge of every field.

You may feel pressured to join a frat or a sorority. I want to be the one to tell you, YOU'LL BE PERFECTLY FINE AND NORMAL OF YOU DON'T!!!

It has everything because of its size. It has a huge social reputation as well as a prestigious academic reputation.

It is in the middle of no where and secluded from big cities and towns

I feel the most unique part about my school compared to other schools I considered would have to be the people. We have a great faculty and student base from all over the world.

The University is our home away from home. It's like our own little world before we get thrown out into the big one. You feel as if you're a part of a family here.

This was the only school I seriously considered. I just looked how big and diverse it was. Everyone just wants to make friends and have a good time. It's a very friendly and fun atmosphere.

The University of llinois had a hillel if I wanted to practice Judaism. It also has an equine program, which makes it possible to continue to ride horses through the year. The University of Illinois has a veterinarian school and an animal science degree, which filters directly into the vet school, if your grades are good enough. This school is close enough to my house so it is possible for me to go home if it is wanted, but it is also far enough away that I don't feel a need to go home very often.

It has 28 sororites and 52 fraternities as well as hundreds of amazing RSO's. There are 40,000 people on campus, everyone is within your age group, and is very friendly.

The university is bright, and huge and welcoming.

It is well known around the country as an excellent school to attend, and people that attend this school are known to succeed in life! It has a very good agricultural department as well as an excellent veterinary school, which is what I was going for. It's nice to be able to attend undergrad and vet school in the same school area.

Educational value and academic prestigue. A great alumni network, acamedic focused place, but still has a wonderful social life and school spirit.

Extent of school spirit. Very much career based.

It's a large school, but with the amount of student organizations it offers, you can make it as small as you want it to be.

Extremely friendly atmosphere. If you need help, someone will always be there.

The price is right. You can get a great education that is from a well-respected school at a great price.

U of I is well known, and having a degree from it really helps graduates in the real career world. Many companies come to the University to find future employees and provide internships for students. The University is diverse and very accepting of different students. The professors are the best in their fields and provide the quality education U of I is known for. Students also understand why each one is here, to learn and to progress, and therefore help one another in their classes. Many services are provided for the success of students, such as tutoring and office hours.

The University of Illinois has one of the best library systems in the country and also has plentiful computer labs and internet access. The computers that I use for my studio projects are loaded with up to date software for creating landscape plans and 3-D models, which was very important to me. All of the computers have internet access and private servers for different majors allow for plentiful storage space and an easy way to transfer electronic files.

It's simple, at the University of Illinois, there is something for everyone.

It was the biggest one I looked at and the farthest away from home. It had the most options.

This school is very focused on academics yet still has great sports programs and night life for students. It's a great mix of being social and getting an education.

It's a Big 10 school, which has a unique feel, and there's a sense of unity despite the differences between the colleges (ex: Engineering, Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences)

The overall quality of each of the programs offered here are unmatched in the midwest, and equal with many prestigious universities around the country. Regardless of what a student intends to study, a degree in that field from this university will lead to success. Beyond this, it doesn't feel like "the middle of nowhere" as many people would choose to describe central Illinois. Instead, it is a community that is existent because of the university, which allows the mix of culture and academia to drive an experience that isn't available at other campuses.

Because it is so large there are an endless amount of opportunities for all types of people and interests. You can't find a niche here!

I wasn't THRILLED about going to UIUC at first, because it's a state school and I knew a lot of people there, but it turned out way better than I could have imagined. The Illini Tradition is fantastic. The people are a community. It's competitive, but fun because you feel like you always have to give your all in academics. There is also a ton to do, not necessarily involving alcohol. Overall, it's better than other colleges because it feels more like a community, even after you graduate.

It's way more expensive, with way more coursework.

This university has a vast number of well known faculty members in their respective fields. The UIUC has also been recently recognized as the most technologically advanced university in the nation.

This is a great public school for the price and has great and highly ranked undergraduate programs

The size of it, it is almost it's own town.

The wide variety of activites you can be involved with on campus

We have state of the art technology and and growing in so many ways that make us very competitive to ivy league schools. We also offer majors that vary from Dance to Agriculture to Engineering.

The school had a distinguished faculty that focuses heaviy on research. Most of the professors loved research and most loved teaching as well. Also, the campus is so beautiful, the architecture, the main quad, engineering quad, south quad. There is just a great atmosphere about the school. The students are all( I believe) extremely studious and intelligent, yet know how to have fun as well~ a good balance of school and fun.

There are so many opprotunities and so many majors to choose from. You do not feel stuck to one major, if you have a change of heart you can find something you like. There is a great music scene on this campus, there is a large enough venue to bring in big name bands, but there are smaller venues where you can see many differnet independent artists from every genre. There are over one thousand student clubs as well, if you have a paticular interest threre is a club for it, if not you can start a club easily.

The school spirit is obvious at our school, as well as a real interest in sports and academics.

the internet connections aren't amazing, but they're acceptable. The campus is huge, so it takes forever to get to your classes, but the bus system is really helpful. don't come without a computer. they say that there's lots of labs where you can do work, but you really don't want to have to leave your room at 2 o'clock the night before a lab or paper is due. The libraries will be your second home; they're an awesome place to study, but the filing system takes a few times to figure out. meet lots of people! you'll never have fun if you hang out in your room by yourself, trust me.
