How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?

If you have to phone home once a day, it's not a great sign. (Unless there are circumstances that are abnormal, like an ill family member or other dilemmas). Independence is a huge part of becoming a college student. While I don't usually call home unless I need something or have a question, I do make a point to text my family members or contact them via facebook. Your family doesn't want to feel like you're "over" them, but they also will understand or will eventually understand that your independence is vital to being a successful college student and having the full college experience.
