University of Louisville Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Cole

The worst thing about the University of Louisville is the dining options. Freshmen who live in tradition-style dormitories receive a large amount of meal swipes that can only be used at three places on campus. The main option, the Ville Grille, serves mediocre food and has little variety on a day-to-day basis. Meal swipes can also be used at Cardinal Burger Cafe at a certain time but the limited options quickly grow old. All other dining options use flex points which, on the traditional meal plan, have to be spent wisely because they are limited.

The scholarships and financial aid are severely lacking. Most of the scholarships are for lower socioeconomic students or students who are a minority. This makes it difficult for other students who also cannot afford college to find resources to pay. For instance, my mom makes just enough that I don't qualify for federal aid, but not enough to pay my tuition. However, because we're over the line, I don't qualify for many scholarships either.

Lucas

While it is much cheaper than most other schools, the cost of attending University of Louisville is a lot, especially when students' tuition is funding the sports programs over acedmic programs.

I consider the lack of smoking areas at my school is the worst thing about it. As a non-smoker, I do not like to continuously walk through the cigarrete smoke of others. One reason due to a heart condition, and another due to the fact that smoking isn't permitted on campus, yet the rule is not enforced. Many other students feel the same way. Many students respect the choice of others who choose to smoke, but I believe that designated smoking areas would make everyone happy.

Chelsea

The worst thing about my school would probably be all the University of Kentucky students...just joking. I would have to say the adjustment of different learning styles according to the professor an individual has. My learning style is hands-on and when I get a professor that does more learn on your own style, I get confused and it is hard for me to adjust. Not every professor is going to teach the way I understand the best, but I wish there would be a description of the professor online when you go to choose your classes.

Tiara

The worst thing about my school is that there are not a lot of healthy food options. This is probably due to the fact that most colleges have the "typical" college foods, manly being fast-food or cafeteria foods.

Youhong "Linda"

The worst thing about the University of Louisville is the false reputation that it has. Many other schools believe that the University lacks integrity in its academics, sports, student life and post graudate success. We have a nationally recognized selective graduate programs, a NCAA championship trophy & a Suger Bowl victory along with many other NCAA titles, nationally recognized top Greek chapters, venues where famous artists such as Kendrick Lamar and Timeflies have come to perform for our students, and a steadily increasing percent of graduates who find steady jobs after graduation. It's definitely happening here atthe University of Louisville.

Elizabeth

The administartive side of it. Trying to talk to anyone about financial aid was impossible. They would send you to building after building and I just ended right back at the same place that I started. They did not treat me like a person in these offices.

Katelyn

The worst thing about my school would have to be the hours of our dining locations. They close at very random times and that does not allow students to access food late at night if they want it.

Johnathan

I have had problems with the financial aid department on numerous occasions. I wasn't awarded the financial aid I was supposed to at the beginning of the semester. It took a lot of extra time in order to have everything straightened out. It was hard to find the time to speak with them, because I am currently enrolled as a full-time student with 17 hours and I also have a job.

Samantha

That it is so large, it is very hard to get involved and have a since of belonging to the university. There is a low since of school pride.

Addison

The worst thing I can think of is them charging you a rediculous amount of money for parking and then do not even offer enough parking spaces for the excessive amount of permits they sold for that semester. It a big rip off adn jsut a way to make extra money :-(

Drew

The worst thing is having to park at the football stadium and ride a bus to the campus.

Kristy

The undergraduate program for psychology majors was not as challenging as it could have been and various other undergraduate classes were far below par in the quality of education offered.

Jessica

The worst thing about UofL is the class size. Some of the classes have a few hundred students in them which makes learning difficult. Also, the campus is very large so when you have only 10 minutes between classes, it's difficult to get there on time. Then you have to sit in the back of the lecture hall and sometimes its impossible to hear the professors because of the number of students and the size of the room.

Jordan

The worst thing about UofL is because the campus is located on a flood plain (near the Kentucky River), any rain that falls tend to pool around campus and make the grounds very marshy. But, a good pair of water-proof boots does the trick.

James

The worst thing that I think about the University of Louisville is the lack of scholarships that are available for my major. Being an older and a commuting student, it would help tremendously if there would be some type of scholarships developed to assist non-traditional students, such as myself. I think that the return on such an investment would greatly assist the department in attracting more less fortunate, but brilliant young minds who may be interested, but unable to afford the cost of a college education.

Samantha

In my opinion, the worst aspect of the University of Louisville is the location. The schoool is sitting in down town Louisville, which isn't the safest of areas.

Anissa

I think the worst thing about this school is that there is alot of crime that occurs both on and around campus. Many people get robbed, and/or injured just walking home from class.

Brittany

I really don't think there is anything wrong with the school I am attending. I do wish they would have more of a variety of majors. Also I wish they would have a little bit more diversity.

Cayla

Because I don't drink or party very often, I've found it hard to find things to do on the weekends. If you aren't involved in Greek Life or Student Goverment Association it feels as if you don't belong on the campus and it makes it extremely hard to find actvities to join to keep busy.

Christine

Unavailability of convinient parking spaces close to the campus. I is very hard to find a parking space close to classes.

Stephanie

The University of Louisville is in the middle of the city of Louisville. I love our campus, but one things I could complain about is the crime. There is not much on-campus crime, but it lies on the outskirts of campus. This is sometimes uncomforting, but we have great security patrolling the campus.

Michael

I would like there to be a more balanced grading base for each class through out the year. Most of my classes were based on 3 or 4 tests and I don't believe this is the best way to test students. These professors have us in class 30 or so times a semster and only maybe 3 or 4 of these classes actually make up the grade. More participation and more grades with HW I believe help students learn over the course of the semester instead of cramming information the night before a test.

Mark

The worst thing about the University of Louisville is the wind that whips around the buildings and into every crease in your clothing when you are on the walk to and from class during winter. Wtih the exception of the four straight months of cold weather, Louisville is a fantastic place to be.

Joseph

The worst thing about my school is that the outside of the buildings need updating

Julie

UofL is a commuter school, and unless you get involved in extra-cirrucular activities, it is difficult to make new friends. Many students attended high school in Louisville and live at home with their parents making it hard to meet new students in the dorms.

Greta

The worst thing about my school is that it is a commuter school; it is difficult to develop the feeling of a community on campus. It can also make it difficult to form friendships with other classmates.

Britt

The worst thing about the University of Louisville is most likely the over-emphasis on sporting events, although that gains attention for programs and can be beneficial in the long run. Instead of spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on remodeling a lockerroom or stadium, it could go to medical research funded programs such as our Bioengineering Department.

Lecia

There is very little diversity. I think however, for where it is located the diversity is actually considered good. However I do not think it is enough to truly engage alot of students in a global aspect and cultures.

Alyssa

The Spirit Programs here (ie. Cheerleading, Ladybird dance team) do not get very much money for scholarships which makes it hard to pay for school.

rebecca

I have only started here at University of Louisville so I can?t say much about the school. From what I have experienced so fare I am disappointed in the financial aid process where the School detaches itself from its student by panning them off to a website to solve the questions about needing help finding scholarships to help pay for tuition. My previous school didn?t do this and was more the ready to help you find a way to pay for school even if it meant staying after hours. I am hoping my first impression is wrong.

Angela

Crime rates on and around campus, mostly because of the area of the city it is in. Everyone has to be careful walking around near campus, mainly at night.

Nicole

They don't take into consideration the need for students to hold outside jobs. Students are required to be interns and student teacher's which do not pay. This causes extremem problems with money. They also ask for more and more money for a meal plan every year even when you live off campus. Its hard to save up money to go to school and still save the money for rent and food.

Kristin

Parking! There's not enough spaces. And, the cost of parking. The shuttle system is not very timely if you don't want ot park on campus. It's a hassle.

Dashia

I really don't like how there is an emphasis on being greek even though greek doesn't make up half of our school. Most people assume you are or aren't based on your looks and the stereotypical "greek".

Madeline

In regards to its atmosphere, the worst thing about the University of Louisville is the disproportionate ratio of working/off-campus student to on-campus, resident students. In my personal experience, many of the students I speak with outside of class are working part- or full-time jobs while going to school in order to pay for their housing and other bills, as I am. With so much of our lives existing outside the academic sphere, I find it is very hard to make friends.

Brooke

The lack of action by the administration on hot-button issues. There are several issues that are well-known and extremely challenging issues for students, and the administration is aware of them. However, the administration is extremely hesitant to act upon any solutions to the problems caused by these issues.

Craig

The lack of things to do, because all there is to do is go to football games and to bars/clubs on Friday/Saturday nights, thats about it. I'm not too fond of the food prices and all the campus crime either (seems to be at least one robbery per week).

Jessica

They don't care about the students and their education. They're more a business than a school. They just get you in to get your money, and want as much of it as they can. Not caring for the quality of education you are getting, quality of life while enrolled, and much less your own financial burden. They just mandated a meal plan that is $250 more than tuition for full-time students, even if you don't live on campus. I don't live on campus, and I work full-time. No time/need to eat on campus.

Stephen

The worst part about my school is the lack of parking for commuter students. Often students are ticketted because they are forced to park in un designated areas.

amanda

athlete oriented (being an athlete) i notice normal students are slightly over looked

Pamela

I am in the Speed Scchool. Everyone on campus and off knows that it is harder thabn any other major at the unversity , but yet we are graded the same as they are. I was in the honors program but because I am in Speed too, my gpa fell and now I have been kicked out of the program. My gpa should be weighted

Sarah

There isn't enough on campus housing, so our school is predominantly commuter. It's hard to get commuter students involved, especially when gas prices are so high.

Taylor

The cost of education keeps increasing each semester when its already too much in the first place!
