I chose UMaine, because I had grown up in the west coast my whole life (Los Angeles, to be exact). I wanted to experience something new, something out of the ordinary and simply got that at UMaine. I also did some research and found it to be appealing, in that the people were said to be nice (which is true) and there is always something to do (somewhat true, more so when you live in campus)
I love it here! UMaine is absolutely home away from home! No place has this much going on and yet still allows at least half the campus to know your name at the same time. We're big, but we're still small and "homey" too. It's the perfect balance!
Honestly the reason I attended this school as the affordability and the hockey. The school is well known for its engineering degrees but by far its most well known fact is the Umaine Black Bears Hockey. You can't talk to many people in Maine that don't know at least the name and the hype it creates here on campus. But they school itself offers a lot and I came here because of the price and what it offered me for that price. Its a great "bang for your buck" kinda school if you ask me.
My mom went here for her four year secondary education and psychology degree. From what she told me about it, it seemed like a natural fit, given that it was a nurturing environment for my growth and it was less than an hour away from my house. It also didn't hurt that in-state tuition is cheaper.
It's very affordable, and the school has a great reputation!!
I wanted to go to UMO because both of my parents were graduates. Out of the 48 people in my family, only 4 of us have attended the University and it wasn't because the others didn't try or want to, its because we were the only for to be accepted. With that type of competition, I felt honored to be selected and with early admission. Ever since, I have recieved unbelievable recognition from the University and Dean himself.
I decided to go to UMaine for a few reasons:
#1. I love the state of Maine. It is very clean, free, and reminds me of my home in Manitoba, Canada.
#2. It was within my budget.
#3. A few of my best friends were coming here.
#4. The hockey team is one of the best in the nation.
#5. It is a very welcoming school with friendly people.
