What is your overall opinion of this school?

All of the classes are insanely difficult, the on-campus housing is repulsive (and very pricey), the food is usually bad, and the social life is poor. It's very common to be in a class that only gives its students a week between the last normal exam of the semester and the final exam. The professors are tenured and (generally) don't care about the students. There's usually only one professor that teaches certain required courses (like CHEM 101) and usually, those professors are horrible and the administration doesn't listen to students' opinions regarding these professors. UMBC also sneaks a $600.00 charge into tuition fees for their events center. Parking is horrible (there's only one parking garage for 13,000+ students) and if you don't get to campus before 8:00am you have to walk very far to get to class. UMBC is an Ivy League wannabee--the administration is trying to gain the same level of respect as an Ivy League school by making their courses extremely difficult and using their students to get to that point. Bottom line: PLEASE don't make the same mistake I made, go anywhere but here and save yourself from a world of hurt.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

UMBC is definitely a comfortable, well-located school with great community outreach programs and access to internships and research opportunities. During the madness that was my senior year college search, many of my peers would regard UMBC as a "nerd school", which may seem like a disparaging comment, but to me, that comment alone was the selling pitch for the black and gold school.

UMBC is a college that shines through it's students and staff. Despite the lack of parking and the stories regarding it's dorm food, it's really the people that act as the driving force behind UMBC's reputation. The amount of time and dedication displayed by many is rather inspiring. People are always willing to help each other, hang out, discuss personal problems, and much more. While much of the Faculty are certainly helpful, there are those who go well beyond the call of duty. An example is my IS Advisor, Stacy Branham. Not only is she kind but she also rather helpful and always has advice for us IS students. There is much more I would say but this is my overall opinion on UMBC.

I appreciate all the opportunities that the University has provided me. All the students and professors are extremely helpful, and are on a lookout for you for your well being. I wasn't doing very well in my other school, but UMBC gave me an opportunity. Now I have excelled in my academic, and will prove that their decision to accept me as a transfer student was wise.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

At the University of Maryland Baltimore County(UMBC), academics are very important. One would probably find more students at the library than at a soccer game. However, sports are on the rise on campus. UMBC is a huge science school, but students in other departments, like the arts and political science, do very well. Overall UMBC is a great school and is very diverse but is not for everyone.

It is a college that is both quiet and loud. Every year we grow to be better and more known by the people around us. Although the dining facilities could use some work, there are buses that lead out from campus down to Baltimore, where the options are endless. The bus service is free for students, and is a wonderful place to enjoy or to relieve stress. By saying this college is quiet and loud it can be explained that we are very academically strong, which does not lead to much activity, but when the time comes to support out college we go all out to do so. For upcoming students, the University of Maryland- Baltimore County is a great school when it comes to academics and creativity, but does lack in social activity.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I feel as though UMBC is an exceptional school, with a great variety of academic programs, especially for STEM fields. The rigor and expectations at UMBC are certainly high, but not unattainable. It is indeed true that a lot of dedication, focus, and willingness to overcome challenges will be needed to succeed at UMBC. But students are never alone. Professors are always working to ensure that they can be of as much help to students as they possibly can be. There are also many study groups and resources made available by the faculty to help students excel academically. Although UMBC is known as a “nerdy school,” there are plenty of ways to have fun on campus. Aside from the numerous extracurricular clubs and phenomenal athletic teams, (not to mention our big win in this year’s March Madness tournament when we defeated a No.1 seed basketball team), student organizations are always planning social events where students can get an opportunity to mingle and enjoy themselves. I appreciate how focused the students at UMBC are, and everyone’s willingness to help each other better understand material. We prioritize school, and want to see our peers succeed as much as we want ourselves to. For anyone interested in pursuing a career in STEM, I would absolutely recommend attending UMBC.

In general, University of Maryland - Baltimore County is an amazing school, filled with school spirit and scholarly people. I would highly recommend this school to people who are focused on learning in a small setting. Although I am just a freshmen, I have already started loving the campus and the people there.

My university is a great place to be. I am able to receive help in academics and take advantage of the many research opportunities. I am also able to interact and grow along with students who share my culture and my Christian beliefs. I would definitely recommend this place as you are able to get a stellar education but also grow socially.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I think that the campus is beautiful, accessible and welcoming. However, there is no campus life and the professors make the STEM introductory level classes ridiculously difficult in order to weed out scholarships. This is a school of academically talented people and in my general chemistry courses there was 1/8 passing averages on exams. That's absurd. Oh and the food sucks.
