Honestly, UMass has such a diverse population. Everyone is different. Because Umass offers a little something for everybody, there is not one particular type of person that would fit best with this school. The only thing that is daunting to some people is the size . Trust me, it is not THAT big. Yes, it is a large campus with a lot of students, but it becomes more than manageable once you are here for a week! Try it!

Andrew

I think anyone can attend UMASS as long as they have a focus for their education and their future. While not all of the school's colleges are equal, if the student picks a field in the sciences or art, I don't think they would be dissapointed. The school isn't an Ivy League perhaps, but for just about any field or interest, there's something for someone.

Before college, I was a girl with a lack of confidence and focus, and I think Umass, being a such a big school, forced me to come out of my shell and seek out activities, as well as educational assistance, in order to succeed. I joined a sorority, excelled in my major, volunteered as well as held part-time jobs, while making life-long friends. It was up to me to make the most of a large school.

In order to attend this school I beleive that you must be a very independent person. Umass is a very large school with many students and you will not receive as much individual attention as other schools. I also beleive that if you are a person from a small town looking for a city-like experience, Umass is a great choice of school. Umass allows you to receive the city-life experience while not actually being in a large city.

Erika

Umass Amherst is a large school that truely does offer a great and large range of oppurtunities to it's students. The catch is that these students need to be very self-motivated. It is very easy to fall through the cracks at this school, making it very important for students to be proactive about their own academic and carreer goals. If you're an independant individual looking for a unique and great quality education this school is for you. Student's who need a lot of guidence and 'watching-over' might not do so well at Umass.

At UMass Amherst, the student population is incredibly diverse in race, ethnicity, age, academic interest, and political and religious backgrounds. Despite this wide range of people in one massive campus of 25,000, students who come from lower-income families should attend this college because one received more "bang for their buck". In addition, they should be people who are determined to take advantage of the many opportunities on campus, such as clubs, sports, domestic/foreign exchanges, and courses.

Due to the variety of majors and minors available and the plethora of departments, this school caters to all interests and strong-suits. Keith

UMass is a pretty flexible institution. Generally, I've found you get out of school what you put into it, like many other things in life. There's no one way the school will try to force you to be, as there are just so many people. There are a lot of party-goers, and it caters to the state, but that's just what feeds the stereotype, for better or worse. Really anyone can come here and find their niche. If not, then they can transfer.

It's a big school, but it becomes small really fast.
