As a first generation college student, I love school and the experiences that it brings. Being in school will be the only time in my life where the world expects me to just learn. I believe this to be an extremely beautiful notion and I embrace the experiences a collegiate education brings. One thing I have learned through my experiences in academia is that although success seems to be gauged by test scores, grades, and G.P.A, true success of school is to be able to become a fully formed, independent thinker. By becoming this, we are empowered and given the ability to change our world, whether it be in the local or global community.

The best thing about this school is by far the resources that are here, ranging from the ones the school provides to the huge student body. It is extremely easy to find groups that share a common interest, and the resources extend into academic and social help as well. The size of the school can be a bit overwhelming at times, especially coming in as a freshman. However, the diversity in interest and culture ensures that you will find a circle of friends to make the experience more manageable and the college seem smaller. Ann Arbor is one of the best places to live as a college student; there are an outrageous amount of things to get involved in and events to go to and you will never be bored. There is a lot of school pride from most people, and football games are usually a blast if its not too cold. The best experience I've had so far here was actually the Michigan-Notre Dame football game in 2013; it was the largest live crowd to rally behind a football team ever, and being a part of that was amazing. However amazing the school is, there are a few downsides. It gets very cold very fast into the school year and stays that way. This may be expected, but having two very large campuses makes it painful at times. Transit between the campuses is usually well facilitated, but the fact that the school is so spread out forces you to plan ahead to make sure you can be on North or Central at the right time. The school's administration is brilliant from a business standpoint, but I feel that they are a little out of touch with the students and tend to think in a more "Midwestern," old-school tradition. Students probably complain the most about either dorm food (if they live in the dorms) or administration, and with good reason.

The best thing about U of M are the number of connections you are able to make and the opportunities you are given. One thing I would change is having two campuses. I am not in art/design or engineering, but I have housing on North Campus. The bus can be a pain (ESPECIALLY ON WEEKENDS). When I tell people I go to U of M, they say, "Wow, that's a hard school to get into." I spend most of my time on campus either in my dorm or in the library on North Campus. My dorm is very quiet and I can concentrate and the Duderstadt is usually not busy, so it's easy to get work done. One experience I will always remember is going to Camp Davis in Jackson, WY for a month the summer before freshman year. It was amazing. I learned about geology, earned college credit, and met some of my closest friends who I see frequently on campus. Students tend to complain about the weather. I just laugh and think, "Did you not research Michigan's climate before you came?"

Starting answering!I absolutely love the University of Michigan! All of the students are extremely smart, but also open-minded and easy to get along with. Ann Arbor is a beautiful town, and there is always something to do on or around campus. The hundreds of student organisations offer the chance for you to be involved in anything you have an interest in, whether or not it is related to your field of study! Michigan Football is one of the greatest traditions I have ever been a part of - the amount of pride our student body holds is unbelievable. School pride doesn't stop after you graduate - the University of Michigan becomes a home to every student that attends, and the love and pride you develop for the school will stay with you long after you graduate!

I love it here. This university has one of the greatest educational opportunities, with many resources available for students to learn and engage in the Michigan community. The downtown vibe with the combination of the academic buildings is a perfect mix. People are always impressed when I say I am a student from the university of Michigan. There is also a lot of school pride in football. The influx of maize and blue during football days is quite a sight to see.

While I love Michigan, there are times when I do complain about the school being too large. When you're fighting for a study spot in the library around finals, you definitely wonder about how you would not have nearly this much of a hard time if you attended a smaller university (and not one where you feel like one among 25,000). Also if you're not much of a go-getter, then you might have a hard time in the large classes because professors cannot simply worry about every individual students' progress or concerns. Again, this isn't too much of a problem in the upper level classes which are typically smaller. But for freshmen this is probably the most frequent complaint. I think students usually realize this prior to coming to this school. Michigan is ranked one of the top universities in the world (not just the country), so most people are quite impressed when they hear I attend U of M. Wearing Michigan apparel or having the Michigan bumper sticker on my car always starts up conversation with alumni all over the world. When I studied abroad in Beijing, China, a random biker came up to me because I had on my Michigan sweatshirt and we ended up chatting about Ann Arbor and what brought us across the world! There is always a lot to say about our school which is great! Ann Arbor is consistently ranked one of the top college sports town and there's no doubt about it. The city really revolves around the campus, but I find it that almost all Ann Arbor residents that I come across are in love with the university too. They love supporting the Wolverines so enjoy living here in Ann Arbor.

On multiple occasions I have said to friends that if I had the opportunity to go anywhere in the world, it would still be Michigan. It is, and I can say this having heard of friends' experiences at other universities, the most comprehensive college experience that you can find. That is to say that nowhere else can you wake up, go to a party, sit in a stadium with 113,000+ people wearing the same colors, get some great food on your walk home, then go for a walk in our nature preserve, go to the high-class restaurants on Main Street, and then finish it all off by going to an opera of professional caliber at one of the best auditoriums in the world (Hill Auditorium). I have never once been bored here because there is just so much to do, so many things to try. People will try to knock Michigan for its size, but I think that any big school can be made to feel small if you just find the right niche for yourself. Our president, Mary Sue Coleman, likes to say that (paraphrasing) you can make a big school feel small but you cannot make a small school feel big. After four years here I agree completely. I never once felt overwhelmed by the size of my 500-person lecture because after that class I had a 20 person discussion. You find your own balance very quickly so it feels comfortable. The best part about Michigan: the pride. I truly bleed maize and blue. The feeling you get walking around campus and just saying "go blue" to someone is amazing. It is just one more thing that makes that big student body feel more like a small family. And that pride isn't only about athletics. You don't need to be a sports fan to feel passionately about Michigan, because there is so much to be passionate about. The academics, the art scene, the night life, everything here is done with passion. So when you say "Go Blue," it isn't just for the football team, its for you too!

I think this school has the best combination of good academics with a good social aspect. (Football) Saturday mornings are my favorite night of the week! There is so much school spirit, and it's especially visible during football season. I'll never forget my first Michigan football game. Everyone in the Big House was wearing maize - it was overwhelming! Because I had a graduating class of over 700, I wanted to go to a large university. I love the fact that I'm always able to meet new people, and I'll never know everyone that goes here. I'm from Grand Blanc, Michigan (near Flint), so when I tell people that I go to Michigan, they assume I mean U of M Flint. When I clarify, they seem impressed that I go to Ann Arbor. Ann Arbor is definitely a college town, but at the same time the city is mixed in with the college campus. I love this about Michigan! The Main Street downtown area, where there are nice restaurants and good clothing stores, is within walking distance. I live in a sorority house this year, and this is where I spend most of my time. Most of the girls in my sorority spend the majority of their time at the library, but I do work in our study room here so I don't have to leave. Usually if I'm not here, I'm in the diag for class (the diag is where 80{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of classes are held). If I ever had to go anywhere else, it would probably be the gym, but we have a gym in our basement so I don't need to leave for that either. Unfortunately, there is a lot of crime on campus. There was a serial rapist a couple months ago, and there are random assaults and other crimes. I would say either the crime or the work load are the most frequent complaint from students.

1. The best thing about Umich is its endless resources available to student; it also has the largest alum network in the nation. 2.The campus is very large and spread out; I would develop an underground walkway system connecting the university so that students don't have to walk across campus in negative degrees Fahrenheit temperature. 3. The school is extremely large but it is not "too large." 4. People are generally impressed when I tell them I attend Umich; it is often regarded as the "Harvard" of public schools. 5. I spend most of my time on campus in the classroom. 6. Ann Arbor is definitely a college town. The whole layout and structure of the city is built around the university. 7. The administration tries to connect with the student body, though I'm not sure how successful they are. Security alerts are promptly disseminated and students' needs are properly addressed. 8. Last year, the university's first openly gay student body president, Chris Armstrong, was continually harassed by a Michigan government official who displayed stalker tendencies. 9. There is in incredible amount of school spirit, mainly due to the heavily promoted Michigan football games. 10. Nothing strikes me as "unusual" about this school. 11. I remember during finals week, there were students from the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) giving out mini care packages at the library. 12. The most frequent complaint I hear is about the short 2-week winter break.

The coolest thing about Michigan is the school pride, by far. There is just an energy surrounding this campus and its fun to be a part of. This extends from football Saturdays to off campus presentation of the University. You will always remember your first time (and last time) piled into the big house with 112,000+ other Michigan fans. I spend most of my time either in class, in the library, and at restaurants and coffee shops. Ann Arbor is incredibly unique because it isn't really a college town. While there are so many students on campus and fun aspects to enjoy, it really is immersed well with other parts of the town. The school's administration does an excellent job with fundraising but sometimes I feel as if they could do a better job supporting student initiatives. The most frequent complaints on campus involve recreational facilities, which are currently being renovated, and decreasing minority enrollment rates.

Overall, I have an incredibly high opinion of Michigan. The best thing about it is that there is so much to do for all different kinds of people and their interests. I think that although the school is large, when you participate in organizations and groups, it makes it so much smaller and you are easily able to find your niche. When I tell people that I go to Michigan, they usually are very impressed and say something like that's an excellent school but aren't you freezing. If I could change anything about the school, it would definitely be the weather. Ann Arbor is definitely a college town and a bustling one at that. There is so much for students to do and the community around is aware of that and caters to students. At Michigan there's about as much school pride as you'd find anywhere if not more, anyone that is a Wolverine is proud of it and wants to show it.

I absolutely LOVE the University of Michigan! Football Saturdays are definitely a highlight of the Michigan experience. Picture walking around campus with loud music blaring all around you and spirited students decked out in maize and blue. I'll always remember rushing the field in the Big House this year after we beat Ohio State (on my 21st birthday!). Aside from the football and the fun, UofM has a reputation for being a school full of smart students; they call us the leaders and the best for a reason. If you're looking to work and play hard, UofM is the school for you!

Michigan is a great environment for any college student. Ann Arbor is the perfect college town, with a mix of quality eateries, entertainment, and nightlife. Ann Arbor has the amenities of a large city in the size of a large town - you can find anything you need between the State Street and South University areas. The campus is conveniently located in the center of the school, and the grounds are well-maintained year-round. The range of academic programming is unbelievable - there is a course for literally anything you are interested in. And of course, Michigan football Saturdays are unlike anything else in the country - the entire student body is awake by 10am to cheer on the Wolverines at the big house. School spirit is huge here, every student owns Michigan gear and flaunts it around campus. But what truly make the campus so great are the students; Michigan students are the brightest and the best from around the globe. We are all proud to be Michigan Wolverines, and cherish our collegiate experiences for life. The University of Michigan truly is an amazing environment.

I LOVE IT HERE! and most students do. the campus is gorgeous, but we're still right in the heart of Ann Arbor (one of my favorite college towns ever!). Yeah it's big, but there are a million ways to make it feel smaller. Just join a club or get a job on campus and you'll definitely be fine. Greek life has a pretty big presence here, but it's not overwhelming. I'm not in a sorority and I definitely still have friends and go out and whatnot (having said that, Greek life is great for some people! it's just not the only way to have a social life here.) The administration is really helpful, but they don't baby you. you have to be the one to contact them with questions or concerns...but once you do, they're always willing to help you out. overall a great school, with a great balance of academics and fun stuff. go blue!!!

I can no longer imagine going to school anywhere but Michigan. When I was applying to schools I didn't think enough about how important the location is, and Ann Arbor is literally the PERFECT college town - the campus dominates half the town and is surrounded by great student bars and hip restaurants, some of which are regularly open into the wee hours of the night. The university is one of the largest employers (including our first-class hospital), so the townspeople love students. The town is really intellectual - everywhere you go people are having great discussions over coffee and shopping at the farmers market. I love telling people I go to Michigan because they talk to me about how much they love an Ann Arbor and how our football team is doing. Its an impressive and widely-known school without being intimidatingly intellectual. The students and the people of Michigan love the school - more Michigan apparel is sold than almost any other school in the entire world, and the school has the largest alumni network in existence.

Michigan is the worst school I have ever attended. Students were not treated with respect and the quality of academic instruction was terrible.

I love the size of Michigan. I originally applied ED to a small liberal arts school and THANK GOD I didn't get in. If your one issue with Michigan is the size don't let that bother you!! There are a million and one ways to make it smaller. The Residential College is a fabulous two year program in which you literally take classes in your dorm with really cool topics. Greek life is also a fantastic way to do this. If a typical frat or sorority isn't your thing, there are community service and pre-professional frats that have the same community without the animal house stigma. Ann Arbor as a college town is great. Usually your first two years will be spent frequenting frat and house parties. Its mostly Juniors and Seniors who frequent the city more. That said there are a ton of clubs and bars that are open to you all four years (most are 18+). We also have chain stores (American Apparel, Urban Outfitters) and some lesser known stores. Theres a ton of both chain and local restaurants. The one experience I will always remember is my Ohio State game. At pre game we were all enjoying our...beverages. At about 10 in the morning "Don't Stop Believing" Came On We were all singing, dancing, and shouting in our Maize and Blue, ready for the game against our biggest rivals. Even though we didn't win, it was such a quintessential college and Michigan experience. On game day it is rare to see someone not in Maize and/or blue, but every day you'll see at least 25{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of people--if not more, wearing Michigan apparel.

The campus is beautiful. The benefits of a large school are worth it, you have a big library, a great online image system, there are good visiting artists that come speak in the Michigan theatre. The city itself has a lot to offer. Lots of interesting cuisine, shopping, places to go, a variety of places to go out too and good public transportation. Its a very easy city to bike around, and the houses are all interesting. One of my favorite perks of the University was free gym access with full-time status, and there are three gyms ones can use, so at least one is pretty accessible no matter where you live. Football games are fun because Michigan fans are very energetic.

Anywhere you go, you will find people to share a GO BLUE moment with. The school pride of students and alumni is unmatchable, and rightfully so. Greek life on campus is a huge social outlet, yet the beauty of U of M is that you don't have to pigeonhole yourself, thanks to the wide variety of social, political and academic clubs, sports, and student organizations. You can do all or none of these extracurriculars and still have an incredible life on campus. That's one of the great things about having such a large, diverse school; no matter what you do you'll fit in somewhere and meet great people. The town of Ann Arbor is also an incredible asset of the school. With restaurants open until 3am, not only is it a pleasure to walk through town simply to get to class, but the night life in Ann Arbor is always vivacious.

The only problem with Michigan is the weather. Its freezing but its worth it. Ann Arbor is amazing and is practically built around the campus, definitely a college town. Football Saturdays are the best, I had never watched a football game before coming to school here and now I can't get enough. People here bleed maize and blue so it's hard not to get into the Michigan spirit.

Overall, there couldn't be a better school. It has the perfect blend of superior academics, sports, and social life. When you tell people you go to Michigan it opens their eyes. It's recognized nationally for their great alumni, sports, and reputation. Since Michigan students are generally considered well rounded academically and socially, many jobs are eager to hire Michigan graduates. It is not too big, its not too small. Its a perfect fit size wise. Great group of students and theres never a dull moment on campus. The one complaint is the weather. The weather is acutally really bad, but you get used to it.

Michigan is an amazing school to go to, Ann Arbor is beautiful, and the people here are so different and interesting. I love how there is a lot of out-of-state students that go to Michigan, because you meet so many new people and learn so much about them. One of the best things about Michigan is the arb, it is a huge nature jungle and my favorite to go running in. Overall, the campus is beautiful and the people are funky, I love it here.

There's a lot to do. I would make the administration care about the students more and not worry about things that aren't important or illegal and wrong (aka affirmative action)

I got an internship and took a semester off to work down in Louisiana. So now I have to go to school for one more semester than most of my classmates. I am sad that everyone will be leaving and I will be here in the fall. But I will be busy with class and I'm sure I will find things to do: Ann Arbor always has some activity to offer like a concert or a basketball game. I think this is an excellent school, very intelligent and intellectual people come here, and the diversity is amazing, this university really prepares you for life, especially with the challenging courses, though sometimes it's hard when you realize that all you are doing is competing for the better grade in all of our classes compared to your peers. The Michigan spirit is everywhere though, and even the alumni are really close to the university.

Michigan is more than a University. It's an experience. The people you meet, the things you learn, the opportunities you are afforded-all these things will stay with you for the rest of your life. You'll have award winning professors, you'll have All-American and Olympic athletes sitting next to you in class, and you'll see celebrities and politicians walking around campus. Our alumni network is the largest in the world. As a result you'll find doors opening for you that you never thought possible because you went/go to Michigan. When you come to Michigan you join a family and that family will be with you for the rest of your life if/when you ever need anything.

Nice mix of work-hard, play-hard. Academics are taken seriously,but a very enjoyable social life available as well.

The best thing about Michigan is how much there is to do. It can be a huge school, and you can be anonymous, or you can participate in a small living/learning community and make it really small and everyone in your community will know your name. Also, Ann Arbor has all of the benefits of a small-town atmosphere with the amenities of a bigger city, like places to shop and eat and walk around and a great public transit system.

Size is good. In state people thing umich overrated, out of state are impressed. Ann Arbor is a great town!

I absolutely love this school. It is a huge school, but I like that it is so big. When I tell people I go to Michigan they are impressed. I spend a lot of time walking around the Ann Arbor liberal streets. People stress the diversity at Michigan, however most stereotypes stay together. There is not much blending of cultures here.

When people hear that I attend the Ross School they are always impressed.

Michigan is a great school, academically and socially. The size of the school is just right and it's so easy to find a click.

A lot of people are very socially active, for example, in fighting for environmentally friendly university buses and recycling. One of the best things about Michigan is all the recycling bins! I also love having such an amazing newspaper-- I religiously read the Michigan Daily. I like how big Michigan is because there are so many people to meet-- if i get bored of my friends there are always new groups to hang out with.

A big recent controversy on campus happened in a thai restaurant named "No Thai." The thai community at Michigan is very offended by this restaurant name despite "No" being the name of the owner. Regardless, there is currently debate about changing the name and whether this name is in fact offensive.

Michigan has a lot of school spirit, this is seen through professors and students alike. I would change the schools breaks because they isolate us from other college students. It's the right size for someone who wants to go to a big school. Most people are impressed when I say I go to Michigan. I spend a majority of my time in the dorms. Michigan's campus is ideal in regards to a "college town." All of Ann Arbor is centralized around the university. There is a strong faculty, who, on the most part, are easily accessible. But the administration, however, is very disorganized.

Michigan is an amazing school. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to go here and I have never regreted it. It is the perfect combination of great academics, sports, school spirit, etc.

I like that there are so many different kinds of people here. It can be hard to find your place but since the most important aspect of college is academics, I spent a lot of time studying.

I love the feeling of being on campus in the fall. The trees are beautiful and everyone is so excited for FOOTBALL SATURDAYS!
