University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Megan

The weather during the winter - it canbe hard to get to classes when it is -20 degrees out. The U has a tunnel system called the Gopher Way that connects a lot of the buldings but in some areas of campus takes longer to walk through them then to go outside.

Elisabeth

In the winter, the snowplow doesn't come as often as it should and the roads are really icy.

Christian

Its size scares people away.

Brandon

The grading curve presents competition between students which makes it hard to cooperatively study for exams and group projects.

Melissa

Honestly, I believe that the worst thing about this school is the size of the dorms. They are basically big enough for one closet and two bunk beds (the bed on top and the desk under - sorry don't know exact name for them). There is not enough room for privacy or even additional furniture.

Katie

Honestly? I think the food is the worst thing here. I lost 15 pounds the first month I was here (and I was not overweight at all) because the dorm food was inedible. There are restaurants in the student union, but that tends to get rather expensive. I would love it if I could get a decently healthy meal on campus for less than $7 .

kathleen

Some classes do not offer enough individual attention, making it hard to learn in a different way than the class is taught. Teacher or TA office hours are either minimal or filled with other students, making it hard to get help or ask questions.

Ruoyu

nothing really

Cost and advising...they just suck

The CLA building looks like crap, bathrooms are horrible. Price are rising like crazy. I don't know why they charge certain fees like Lab fees and we end up using the crapiest oldest materials. Art fees are just as bad, we pay so much and nothing is new, old crap. They also charged us for the NEW GOPHER STADUIM! which I didn't have a say at all, I truly believe we don't need a NEW staduim, but it is charged automatically. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THESE STUPID FEES they JUST KEEP CHARING ON US!!!!

Kathleen

Although the UofM is an exceptional school, there were a lot of inconsistencies depending on the professor. One person I worked on a project with plagerized their portion, which in our syllabus meant automatic failing of the class and possible expulsion. I was disappointed they ended up not even having to do the project and had it exempt from counting in their grade. Also, I received a D (my only-my cumulative gpa is 3.65) in a class by 2{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} and when I retook it I would have gotten a C+ by the other professors standards.

It is very easy to get lost in a school that is so big. To many teachers and administrators, you can become just a number.

Stephanie

-some classes are too big -some grading scales are harsh

Sarah

It is very large and expensive for a public school. The size can being annoying, especially in the winter when it's very cold and you have to walk fifteen or twenty minutes to class.

Katie

Picking where to go out to lunch. So many choices.

Sadie

The worst thing about my school is the divide in the classrooms. In every class there is about 30 to 40 percent of people in the class that are only there because their families are paying for them to be there and they really dont care how they do in school. It makes it frusterating for someone like myself who is paying my own way through college and getting good grades.

Kimsuka

I do not like the fact that it has only people from the Midwest, (Minnesota, Wisconsin etc.), and not so many people from other parts of the country or world. So, many people come to college with their high school friends and those cliques sometimes tend do stick. Also, many people dress alike, talk alike and are alike, not a very original campus.

Rick

Cold, self explanitory.
