What kind of person should attend this school?

Someone who is willing to put themselves out there in order to meet new people and learn what they need to learn. Someone who is open to other people's opinions and is not intimidated or aggrivated by people challenging their opinion about certain issues. Since the campus is very large, one needs to be somewhat outgoing in order to meet people and find their place in the social world. Finally, someone who can withstand the extremely cold winters and the really hot springs and summers.

Otherwise, there is a lot of choose from, so if you don't know what to study and you want a ton of options, then go for it. A very social person should go here, as there are a ton of people to meet. You need to like the nightlife and going out, because it's hardly ever quiet on campus.

This is a school for the self starter, motivated learner. The size can seem overwheleming - not just class size but the very size of the campus itself. Student welcome week and other events are available to assist - but the shrinking violet will geet ignored in the scheme of both educational and social life. Competition is fierce especially in the Technical / Business classes; the U of M has speciality colleges - Carlson, the Institute of Technology and expectations are high.

I think this is a great school for anyone but more specifically, this is the school for someone who like the city and likes a high speed lifestyle. This is the school for people who want to see and experience new things. It's the school for people who want to get an education and an awesome life experience at the same time.

Someone attending this school should be smart, know how to study and already have an idea what area of study they want to pursue. A person who has no idea what they want to do will end up overwhelmed and lost. It is a big enough school to accomodate any interest- academically or socially- but not a place to hide out.
