Classmates are very diverse. No matter how different people are everyone is always nice to each other. I am constantly meeting new people who sit next to me. In big lecture halls I sit in a different spot everyday so it's nice to get to know other people. Everyone is friendly about sharing notes and forming group sessions to help each other out. Usually the students in your class are the students you are competing against to get into a certain program, however, students are still willing to help each other out.

When I look around, I see fellow classmates who are exaclty like myself. Hard working and dedicated to not only a good education, but also to the patients we take care of. Nursing students at Mizzou are all the same: compassionate over achievers. We are born compassionate and want to become the best nurse we can be so that we can give the best care possible. This is where the over achieving comes in. We over achieve because people's lives are in our hands.

Anybody can find a student group that interests them, and if they can't find it, if they can find enough others, they can start it. Students run the gamut from the most crazy-motivated people you've ever met in your life, to pot-smoking slackers you will never see after the first week of class. Most people are from the St. Louis area, more are from Missouri, and if someone is there from out of state, you can be sure that they are journalism majors. It is probably a politically right-wing campus, just because a large faction of the student body comes from rural areas and the rest don't care.

Rebecca

With the large amount of students at the University of Missouri-Columbia there are bound to be repetitive trends. After talking to a few students the theme seems to be "comfortable." Whether it's V-necked shirts of sweats, hardly anyone gets dressed up.

David

My experience with minorities was there was very little of any race besides whites. But as Midwest school, its not shocking that most people are white. There is an African American greek life, culture, and representation. As for Asian or Hispanic, its small but there. You have to burn calories to be part of the minority culture. The socio-econ structure is flat. Most are middle class individuals, a good dusting of underprivileged individuals. But you couldn't tell unless you asked. Most will feel out of place. Its a grand change. Unless you're a legacy or had experience with Mizzou before coming there, its a fish out of water experience you have to adapt and adjust to. I especially felt out place, but burned major calories seeking like-minded individuals. They are there and groups are geared to diverse amount of interests. Clothes? hoodie, jeans, and flip flops. Greek: popped collar, sunglasses, jeans, and retro shoes. Different types of students do interact. It has to do with the dorm structure that provides opportunity for people make friendships and get to know one another. It's highly encouraged to live in a co-ed dorm with a long hallways, with people's doors open for welcoming. Most Mizzou students are from Missouri, Kansas, and Illinois. A definite question you will be asked is what high school are you from? Most kids are middle class. They are good plenty that are from working class families. And there is a lot rich life denial too. As a swing state, there is extremes on the left and right. When you get a smart and angry, you get politically active person. He or she will argue in our public forum, speakers circle. Moderates are kind of left out. Students talk about the beer culture, party life, and stress of classes.
