University of Missouri-Columbia Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Morgan

The worst thing about Mizzou are some aspects of the administration. Some departments are really hard to crack, including Finance and the Registrar's Office. These departments can make a students life miserable, with vauge answers and long waits. Its best to learn the right questions to ask and not settling for the wrong information.

Kristi

Although my school is diverse, the thing I dislike most about Mizzou is that the different cultures don't mingle very often and ethnic groups tend to stick with each other where they are comfortable.

Caitlin

I really do not think there is a "worst thing" about the University of Missouri. I have been fairly satisfied with my experience, especially since I transferred from a different school where I was not happy.

Kaley

I have not noticed many displeasing things about my school, with the exception of class registration difficulties. Many freshman have to choose classes later than their elders; this is frustrating because most classes are full by the time one may register.

Morgan

I love the University of Missouri and I truly posses "Tiger Pride" but there is always room for improvement at any college or university. The one thing I would like to see change at Mizzou is the aspect of Greek life. I am a member of the Greek community and I am aware that the Greek culture is a large part of Mizzou. My problem with the Greek community is that it seperates Mizzou students. I think Greek life is great as long as Mizzou pride comes first for students, not Greek house affliation pride.

Amanda

The worst thing about Mizzou is its reputation as a party school. Yes, there are parties to be found, but that is not what Mizzou is all about.

Caitlin

I can not in all truthfulness think of a negative thing to say about the University of Missouri - Columbia or Mizzou as it is fondly called. If I had to pick one thing though, it would be that the campus can be a little daunting to find your way around at first. Until a student fully understands all the short cuts and the lay of the campus, they often have to rely on help from other students to find their way. However, most students are more than willing to give directions to anyone who needs a little help.

Veneta

One of the worst things about my school is how far away some classes may be. I do like the fact that my school is big because there are so many people to meet and befriend, but that also means that I may have a class that is all the way on the other side of the campus.

Ryan

The parking is the worst because there is never anywhere to park

Megan

The worst thing about the school is the party culture. Frats and sororities are a major source of the problem, as are the high number of bars and clubs near the campus and also the off-campus student housing areas.

Chauntee

The lack of minorities that represent a variety for students who are black, like me. Columbia, MO is not the friendliest town towards black students, which makes it even more stressful that there aren't more black students attending this school.

Laura

i think the worst thing about this school is that is focuses a lot on greek life. if you are not in a greek house then you may not have as good of an experience.

joshua

The weather fluctuates rapidly. It will often be forty degrees in the morning and 70 at night. Cold winters.

Staci

Personally, I think it is too big but I am from a small town and like my rural life, so it is just a bit too much.

Wesley

The school doesn't have a very strong reputation outside the state, except in certain professions (journalism). People don't give this great place enough credit, I think.

Jason

Not everyone seems to be there to learn and the one's who are not tend to drag others around them down. Certain people should be watched more closely and if they do not show proper academic or social responsibilities there should be consequences.

Julie

I believe the worst aspect of the University of Missouri is their career center. When I first visited the center, I was hoping to sit down and talk with a professonal who has been in the work force and has real-life experience in obtaining a job. Instead, I was only able to talk to a fellow student who referred me to career books and pamphlets. When I was considering this school, I was told they have an excellent career center, but it turns out that it was not very useful at all.

Lauren

I can't really think of anything that I would consider "worst" about my school.

Landon

The cost.

Ryan

Daniel

I feel that the school could improve on its type and number of social events that are not centered around the Greek life.

Charles

I feel that as a freshman at this school, there is an undue amount of pressure put on the students to join the Greek system. I have found, however, that after freshman year the social scene at the school opens itself in other directions. For example, the extensive East Campus neighborhood houses hundreds of students , both those in and out of the Greek system. If you didn't want to join a fraternity or sorority, this school would be best if you came having friends in higher grades that also are not a part of the Greek system.

Moeena

There is a lot going on, so time management is difficult. School gets expensive also

Justin

Sometimes, even though I like the large university, I feel lost and sometimes don't really feel like there is anyone who can relate to whatever is I might be going through.

Andrea

The only bad thing about my school is there are alot of greek life on campus. I'm not into that sort of thing and it is hard to meet people if you not greek, because it seems like everyone is.

Bryan

The only bad thing I can say is bad is that the school is growing so rapidly that there is always construction going on to accomodate for the growth.

Rachael

I think the worst part about my school is the limited financial aid available to out of state students. It is so much more costly to attend school out of state and they do not help anywhere near as much as they should, especially for students that need definite help monetarily.

Ashlie

The worst thing about my school is that when is snows, sometimes the snow and ice are on the sidewalks for a while.

Ryan

I could do with a more liberal school but over all it is pretty relaxed here and everyone is fairly open to other ideas and lifestyles and views

Cassandra

The worst thing for me would be the cost because I am in debt right now and school is not cheap.

Amanda

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, so the worst thing about University of MIssouri in Columbia is the location. I hate being out of the city area and a lot of the people that go to this school are from small towns with not a lot of money. Also, my major is not a big program here so I am not getting that great of an education in architecture.

Elizabeth

There's a lack of good sportsmanship here. It's embarrassing to know that other schools welcome us when we play there, but we boo and mock the away fans who come here.

Katie

nothing!

Sarah

Besides a couple of teachers I disagreed with, I really loved Mizzou and still wish I could be a student. :(

Hilary

I really don't like the Sorority/Fraternity atmosphere. If that's what you like then this is the place for you. It's not hard to avoid it, but it always annoys me a little when that's all people talk about in my classes. I also don't like the bureacracy and having to run around all day just to get one person to sign one stupid piece of paper. That was always annoying.

Andrea

The quality of food served in dining halls are poor. I can not stand some of the food served in the dining halls, I prefer to consume real ingredients instead of preservatives all of the time. I would like to eat better food that matches how much I pay for the dining services. I hate the community style showers in the old dorms that haven't been renovated yet.

Nichole

The availability of financial aid in the form of scholarships. Being a nontraditional student it was hard to find aid except in the form of loans, and since I was an out-of-state student those loans were really high!

Jessica

My school needss to be more racially diverse. There is less than 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} minority students that attend the university.
