University of Nebraska-Lincoln Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Ethan

I think the most frustrating thing about my school is not having enough off campus living spaces in walking distance of campus. I came accross this problem went I was disscussing living off campus with some friends for my junior year. The few apartments that are available to rent near campus come with a steep price tag, however the apartment that are a ways away from the college are cheap. It's hard to have the best of both worlds of having a cheap and close apartment near campus.

This University's professors can sometimes play favorites. If you are an above average student, but still not an absolute genius in their class the can hold grudges.

Hana

The funding is clearly tailored around the football team, leaving me with the impression that the university cares more about sports than education.

Elise

Nothing at Lincoln really frustrates me. If you plan out your time and classes correctly, you can be successful in your academic career and still enjoy all the social aspects of college life. The new independence and responsibility is the biggest adjustment in college which make things frustrating and stressful at times, but the school itself is wonderful.

Adrian

Classes are boring. There is mostly rote memorization of terms and no room for thinking outside of the agenda in class. Its unethically expensive to attend school and almost for something that does not intruigue you.

Jack

the most frustrating thing about my school would probably be the people who ride their backs to class. even though there are not that many they can be a nuisance.

Hailey

Large classes and an often too-conservative culture.

Mikayla

In a class of 500 students, 498 students know the answers to the professor's questions. Three of them raise their hands to answer. At least half of the students are playing with technology, dozing off, or just plain not paying attention. The remaining students are either afraid to speak, concerned that others will judge them for speaking, or they have lost their voices. This small frustration of mine is a microcosm for a greater frustration of mine-that students at my school are taking classes to get a degree, not to get an education.

Johnathon

It's no big deal, but there is an East campus and a City campus. Buses transport people between the two, but I wish they were connected so that there was more cohesion. However, the building of a new research district called "Innovation Campus" will help to provide a link between the two separated areas.

Jessica

Current students are underappreciated during football games. The college sport literally brings the entire state together; it is that important to Nebraskans. However, the students are packed into a corner, rendering them ineffective as they cheer on their fellow classmates and friends, but are disciplined for standing up during a football game. The energy of the stadium represents the heartbeat of our campus; for the past ten years, the athletic department seems to have chosen the season ticket holders and boosters over the actual students. Other division one football programs do not seem to treat their students this way.

Crystal

Because Academics are so competitive, sometimes the lower level (100 level) classes are used to weed out students from harder/more popular majors (like Pre-Med or Biology). This is frustrating because it is hard enough to get good grades in college without the program trying to lower the amount of students enrolled in their college and in those classes.

Michaela

Having a teaching assistant that is foreign is very frustrating. How are you supposed to learn the material when you can't understand what your teacher is telling you?

Lisa

Parking! Parking is not plentiful or close to classes. You must allow extra time to drive around parking lots to locate a space before your classes. The bus lines are plentiful and inexpensive.

Ginny

It's large, and in some classes the size is upwards of 200.

Brandi

The most frustrating thing about my school is the fact that I am so far away from my family. It's hard to be away and not be able to see them each day.

Tracy

I would say that the most frustrating obstacle at the University of nebraska is the lack of parking for students and visitors to the campus for classes and to attend events.

Ethan

The most frustrating thing at my school is that each year it feels like the administration is becoming less concerned with the students well being. I feel the Chancellor, Harvey Perlman, is more concerned about leaving his mark on the school. He is building an entire new wing of the university, even though the school is in one of the worst finacial states it's ever been in, meaning the students will have to pay more for tuition to pay for it. This just goes to show that the administration doesn't care how much the students have to pay.

Kelsey

The cost is the most frustrating especially in such a tough economy right now. Being a full-time student does not leave a lot of time to work to the degree I need in order to be financially stable. If I had the time to work, I could potentially stay a float, but with many student loans after college.

Kaitlin

A lot of activities are based around sororities and fraternities. It would be nice to see a change in that.

Myung

Region. There is nothing to do.

Jen

The limited resources for our department.

Ryan

I love my school, but if I had to name one thing that frustrates me I'd have to say the parking is pretty limited. I love the motorcycle parking up front, but if its rainy or snowing and I have to drive my truck, I have to park very far away.

Allison

So many people fall through the cracks. They cannot get an advisor they need, or professors just don't care. My situation was frustrating because I could not find an advisor that would help me out. I was a music minor, and I wanted to be a music major but I had to pass an audition. They told me to just keep taking music classes like I was a music major, and then I would stay caught up. In the end, the music people wouldn't help, and neither would any of the other advisors.

Summer

The most frustrating thing about my school would have to be that it can be confusing to get around. Being a freshman last year was very overwhelming and frightening at times. I did not know where a lot of resources and perks of the campus were. Another thing that was very frustrating was the cost of housing my freshman year.

Peter

not enough money for the Arts.

Emily

Some people aren't open to other viewpoints, politically.

Lindsey

The most frustrating thing about school here is the money situation. I think that is a problem anywhere though. I don't have enough money to pay for school.

Cassandra

The most frustrating thing about my school, is that teachers expect a lot out of students, but don't really explain the way things need to be done. Teachers also offer very little if any extra credit to try and balance out a bad test score.

Emily

Lack of good clubs.

Rebecca

The advisers aren't very helpful and figuring out your classes can be tricky. Also, it isn't as if your social life comes to you, you have to get out and find ways to connect, usually.

Stuart

The most frustrating thing about my school is the lack of cooperation between programs. Even within the music department where I am a student, the faculty do not work together and this often proves detrimental to the students who have to juggle several rehearsals and assignments on top of any other work they may have outside of the music building.

Ryan

I really do not remember ever having a frustrating situation about my school, except for final exam week. Lots of studing and little sleep. But I am sure that is a common frustration among all college students.

Caleb

The most frustrating thing about school is that we get a ton of reading assigned for each class and it is difficult to complete all the readings for every class.
