Why did you decide to go to this school?

Chelsey

I had always dreamed about going to this school bu I doubted at first that I could get in which is why I chose to go to a school in South Dakota. My family moved down to Nebraska a few months before I started college and so I was left all alone in South Dakota. After a year of being up there I decided to give it a shot and to see if I could get into UNL. I had decided that if I got accepted I would transfer and if not I would stay at SDSU. I got accepted and started my sophomore year at UNL.

In all honesty, I never really considered Nebraska the school I would be going to during the application process. I applied to show my father, who is a home-grown Nebraskan, that I could get into UNL. Nebraska and Colorado State University were the only two large public schools I had applied to. All of the other schools I had applied to were small public and private schools that boasted small student to teacher ratios, however offered a small course selection. I waited until I had received my financial package offers from every single school I had applied to that had accepted me, then began to weed out schools from there. Not only did UNL provide me the best financial package, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that it was everything I wanted in a school. Because my high school had very little school spirit and focused more on socializing than academics, I was looking for someplace that not only boasted a strong school community and spirit, but also was strong academically. UNL's College of Journalism and Mass Communications is one of the top journalism schools in the nation and the students help make up what is known as the best college fans in America. Overall, UNL became the obvious match for me the more I looked at it. Deciding to come to UNL was definitely one of the best decisions I have made in my life thus far.
