What is your overall opinion of this school?

Joshua

Unfortunately there are many issues to take up with this University. Let's start with the secondary in importance. The little things, parking is expensive and a hassle, student life is nonexistent unless you plan on being in the greek system. Advisors and offices are unhelpful and will treat you like a number. Even more importantly, the academics are very disappointing. Curriculums are questionable, outdated, and take years for professors to change. Large lectures where a professor will never know your name. Multiple semesters worth of required classes. Little opportunities for internships and jobs in this small city. Many buildings and classrooms were run down or not up to date. Very little financial support and not many grants, scholarships, awards. It seems the priority of this school is on athletics, not academics. Even though they have millions of dollars there is a shortage of equipment, space, computers.

Travis

UNL is overall a great school in a nice city with a small town attitude.

Ethan

This is a very good place for college

Kate

I cannot imagine going to any other school--I love it! The best thing about the school are the other students, the professors, the courses, the athletics, and the opportunities. I remember my first day on campus, everyone was so nice and welcoming. I felt at home. This was an awesome feeling because the first day of high school all the new freshmen were called names and looked down upon. It was such a relief when I came here and felt welcomed. UNL is a pretty big school, around 25,000. However, it does not feel that big once you are on campus. I have had lectures with 250 students, but I have also had small discussion based classes with only 15 students as well. For me, the size is just right because it offers both small and large classes. I spend all my time on campus, either in my greek house, in the campus union, or in the classroom. I love that everything is so close, you can get anywhere on campus in 10 minutes walking. I love living on campus and being so close to everything and everyone. One of my favorite parts of UNL is the staff. I have had around 30 professors since being in college and I have enjoyed every single one. All professors teach very differently though, so you have to understand what your professor expects of you. My freshman year, I was too nervous to create relationships with my professors, but now I find that it is extremely important. The most fun part of UNL is the football games. The experience is matchless. I love watching football in the student section and cheering on the huskers to victory. Students take a lot of pride in the school and will support the team not matter the season or record.

The University of Nebraska- Lincoln is my home! I can not imagine going to college anywhere else. The opportunities available to students here are too large to number. The number of student organizations make it nearly impossible to be inactive on campus due to a lack of program. The professors are all very kind and willing to help their students. Office hours are always offered by teachers and professors will often schedule appointments with students who need additional help. UNL is the perfect size. It is large enough that something is always going on around campus but small enough that you will always see a friendly face every day. UNL has excellent facilities, from classrooms to exercise facilities to study areas for students. Students are found in every corner of campus studying or relaxing. It is a great atmosphere! When you go to UNL, you are entering the Home of the Huskers. You will bleed Husker Red here. Most students where school apparel to classes and on gamedays, it is rare to walk a block without hearing someone call "GO... BIG...RED....!!!" To say the least, I love UNL.

Megan

I think the overall best thing about this school is the environment that surrounds the students while walking around campus. You feel a sense of pride in UNL amongst the student body. Everyone is proud to not only be a student at UNL but also a Cornhusker. I have found throughout my almost four years at UNL that there have been some excellent professors but also some professors who were not as involved with their students. If there would be one thing I'd changed it'd be to make sure all professors are committed to their education of the students. I find that UNL is a perfect size as it is for my own personal preference. It may be an adjustment for someone who is from a smaller town but for someone from a city such as Lincoln it is very comfortable. When I inform someone that I attend UNL they immediately know that I am getting an incredible education and will success in my future career. What I like about UNL is I feel comfortable spending time anywhere throughout campus whether that be in a specific Hall, The Union, The Library or even my own sorority. UNL really represents their college town during their excellent game days where you find almost everyone walking the streets of campus cheering on the beloved Husker football team. You feel a sense of pride and unity throughout the town of Lincoln. I believe the administration is incredibly involved and active to provide the best education for each individual student at UNL. I will always remember my experience at the dorms and how welcoming everyone was to me. I will remember the football games and all my times spent with my friends walking around campus having fun together but also studying with one another.

I love going to this school and I believe that transfering here was the best decision that I ever made during my sophomore year. I belong to the College of Journalism and Mass Communications and the opportunities are amazing there. One example is that during the summer of 2010 I was able to work with the National Special Olympics when they were in Lincoln. UNL is composed to two campuses, City and East. I spent most of my time on city until my last semester when I found a much cheaper dorm on East campus. City campus is great if you like to be near downtown and aound all the action but East campus is a lot better if you like the peace and quiet. Lincoln is not a college campus, it is way too big for that. Once you get out of the downtown area there is no hint that there is a college anywher near it. There are a lot of experiences to have in Lincoln. UNL is a big school, and the dean has plans to make it even larger, but it never feels so overcrowded. I worried when I transferred here that it would be crazy with all of the people walking aroun, but it really felt about the same as the smaller school that I left in South Dakota. I think that there is a lot of school pride at UNL. Just going to a Husker football game can show you were I am coming from. The fans go crazy, and many students moods hinge on the outcome of the game. One of the reason that I decided to come to UNL was because of my dad and I watching the games when I was younger and I wanted to be a part of that.

The best thing about UNL is game days. Cheering for the huskers is like a religion here. Everyone wears red and is so involved when the football team has a home game. This is school is just the right size. All of my classes I can easily walk to. I think Lincoln is a great college town. It is considered a small town but it has the environment of a big city. There is everything you could possibly need in walking distance of campus. I go to dinner at Applebee's and Old Chicago all of the time and then go to a movie after without having to use my car at all. I loved living in the dorms my freshman year. The food is great in the dinning halls. I truly believe that UNL has the most school pride out of any school in the country. Every alumni continues to be a die hard husker fan.

Britny

University of Nebraska-Lincoln has many qualities. One quality in particular is the support and pride of athletics students show. Thousands of students, alumni, and Nebraska Fans attend sporting events such as football games, volleball games, basketball games, and much more to show their support to students who have dedicated themselves to representing UNL through these activities.

University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Not a hick school.

Emily

I love UNL, with all my heart and soul. I am an active student who has seen change occur on this campus. I have faculty and staff who support me and a community of friends I never knew I could have. I came from a small school and graduated with 64 students in my class, coming to the UNL could have been scary, but it was easy to find community. Although some classes may be large lectures of 250 students you are not forgotten here at UNL! Professors care about who you are and they are easy to approach! That is the same for academic advisors and other professional resources on campus. Bleeding Husker Red isn't just a saying. We are very proud of our institution and that pride doesn't just stem from athletics. Although we have a great athletic program which is exciting, we are a fantastic research institution, have an awesome Greek System and Housing program, and so much more. Being in the Big 10 only continues to show that we are constantly proactive in being a great school and care about crafting students to perform at the best of their abilities.

Drew

I love everything about the University of Nebraska! There are countless organizations to get involved with! If you can think of it there is probably a group! If not, feel free to create your own! Saturdays in the Fall are some of the best with Husker Football. All around campus you will see nothing, but a sea of red! The campus itself might be considered large, but not too big where you won't see familiar faces around campus, in the student union, or in your classes.

Sydney

Overall, I have had a beneficial experience at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. The dorms are large enough to accommodate new students to campus life. There are many student groups available to get involved with in order to meet people within your specific college and outside of it. Greek life is very strong on campus. Greek's are very involved on campus and in the community. The student body is predominately white but there are many minority groups to get involved with if that is an interest of the student. The size of the student body isn't too large. Lecture classes can be around 120+ students while other classes can be around 20 students. Lincoln is very much a "college town", athletics and school pride are very important to the student body as well as the community of Lincoln. The shift to the BIG10 has been the most recent change for UNL, with much support from the community, the change has impacted sports and more importantly will enhance the learning experience on campus.

Andrew

Lincoln is definitely a college town. Once you get off campus, there is just bar after bar and fast food. Lincoln as a city is really bland with not much to do. Other than the city of Lincoln, UNL is really great. I spend most of my time on campus either around my dorm or at the rec. The rec center at UNL is amazing. They have an indoor football field, lap pool, weight room, rock wall, and tons of other cool stuff including the injury care and prevention facilities. School pride is really apparent here, especially on football days. When the Huskers play, the campus and city is one big party. The administration recently made a bad decision to move the student section on the football stadium up about twenty rows and throw a bunch of old people in front of us. WTF? So everyone around campus is mad about that. The most frequent student complaint is about the university's alcohol policy. No alcohol is allowed on campus, which makes for some fairly boring weekends sometimes. Its all good though; the houses right off campus are where the partys are at, but beware of the Lincoln PD. They love nothing more than handing out MIPs and other alcohol related tickets.

Allison

Lincoln is a college town that is pretty wild on the weekend especially during football season. The school is very large!!!

Julie

If I could change one thing I would change the way the guys dress here. Coming from the south, the boys at home seem to dress nicer and take better care of themselves. Also, the girls here seem to wear a lot of make-up and try and have the "I've just been to the beach" look, when in reality we're in the midwest and the closest beach is a good thousand miles away.

Ashley

I think the school is a great size--it's small enough to see a familiar face every day, but large enough to avoid those familiar faces if need be. There are always opportunities for meeting new people. People's perceptions about UNL have a lot to do with their perceptions about Nebraska. If they believe we still have issues finding running water, than UNL seems pretty backwoods to them. If they are aware that Nebraska is like any other central state, then their reactions are pretty normal. A large portion of my time is spent in the city campus student union, Love Library, and Andrews Hall (the English building--that's my major). UNL is big enough to occasionally unnerve the unsuspecting student with an unnecessarily large amount of red tape. Everyone is so friendly; these issues with bureaucracy come up when you least expect them, and rare as they are, are an unpleasant surprise. The school pride here is insane. Everyone's proud to be a Husker, even the ones who don't like the football team!

Nico

UNL is loaded with non-traditional, rural community and foreign students providing an atmosphere that is centre-focused, that is on the self. If you find yourself to be the type that prefers to stand alone, this campus, in general, will only accentuate that trait. Everyone also has an opinion about everything and feels everyone else cares to hear. This, by far, is not the case. Discuss key issues and support your opinion, don't announce your insanity across Union Square.

Kim

i think that UNL is the perfect size of school for nebraska. Some kids come from a small town and adjusting to a larger one may be difficult. It's not too big but not too small. There are a wide variety of things that you can get involved with if you choose. I think that anyone would say that there needs to be more available parking. with the university growing somethings need to change in order to accomodate the changes. For me with the major i chose i don't have as much free time as I would like and i don't get to venture to many different parts of the campus as often as i would like but when i do i love it. i don't think i would have picked a different place to attend undergraduate school.

Royce

When people hear that I am from Vancouver, BC Canada many ask in a condesending tone....and why would you come here?? Why not? Yes there are things I miss about Vancouver and about home but I am really happy with my choice to attend school here and think it was a great opportunity for me to live some where different and learn new perspectives, and at the same time help share some of the experiences and culture that I have experienced from home and abroad that many people here have not yet.

Alex

I think that UNL is the perfect size. It's not too big and not too small. You can still get to know alot of people on campus and have many more yet to meet. I really like that it's not a small campus because when the campus is small, everyone knows everyone's business. I think Nebraska has alot of school pride. Our football fans are hardcore. People know us from our football tradition. It's partly a college town. Not as much as Lawrence, KS or anything but that's just because Lincoln is bigger and our students don't overtake the town.

Tate

The biggest issues I feel are associated with the expansion of the campus. They are always giving excuses as to raising student fees and tuition that have nothing to do with expanding the campus or replacing buildings, but something is always being built. Now with the state fair moving from Lincoln to Grand Island they can get their hands on the state fair grounds. How much is that going to cost. I do understand that inorder to provide an education that is on par with and exceeds other schools, they need to update continually and be flexiable. But really; it is excessive and the planning is not done very well. Take parking for instance. In order to increase enrollment, the University repairs, updates and builds new facilities; student enrollment goes up, and then the University over-sells parking leaving dorm living students without a place to park even though they paid for it. The cost of parking is also horrid, so I use public transportation.

Jason

For me, the best thing about UNL has been the academic advise I have recieved. From the advisors in General Studies, all the way to my current advisor in the College of Education & Human Sciences, I feel as though I have been well advised. It can be a very intimidating process to try and select a major, understand what it will take to complete your degree, and the most efficient path to that completion; but the advisors whom I have worked with over the last four years have always been great about answering my questions. I have never felt confused or mislead by any advice that I was given in regards to the completion of my degree and that has been very, very nice. Through my experience, it is usually the students who do not take advantage of the General Studies advisors who end up confused about what they need to do. Kudos to UNL's advisors.

Amanda

I love how big the school is, but at the same time, I see familiar faces all the time. The classes are geared for your major so you have a lot of the same people in classes and it is easier to make friends that way. Campus is so much fun in the fall, the weather is great and students are always outside playing frisbee or sitting by the fountain at the union! I love it. The worst thing about UNL that I hear students complain about ALL the time, are the attendance policies. It is foolish to throw adults into the real world, have them live on their own and make their own decisions and then give them high school attendance policies. I don't generally skip class, but there are times I cannot make it and I hate being pentalized and have to worry constantly when I am sick. I go to class when I am sick because of the policies and that is how germs and viruses spread across the whole campus. We are adults now and college was a choice we all made, so we should have the choice of whether or not to attend.

Shawn

The Best thing about UNL is the Culture. Culture goes hand in hand with school spirit and pride that all the students have for the University. When first coming here and knowing no one, I felt very comfortable when meeting new people that were Nebraska natives. I was welcomed with open arms and that it was has kept me here to this day. When talking about school spirit and pride it's just awesome to know that everyone is so passionate about anything and everything that goes on, from sports to academics to social life. I've never seen anything like it! Back home in Hawaii I never heard the phrase "I was born to be a Warrior." Here it's very much a common phrase when I have asked most Nebraskan's why they came to Nebraska. I definitely do not regret coming here for college.

Cj

The school is a perfect size. Its not too big and its not too small. The one thing I would change is trying to get a better and bigger rec center. Nebraska is very centrally located and easy to get anywhere. The traffic of the city is not bad but its a large city. Not like living in the middle of no where. You get the city life without the crazy traffic.

Katy

The size is really good...not too big or too small. The town of Lincoln is also a nice little town. I wish they had childcare.

Emily

UNL is just the right size. I love that I am able to meet new students every semester and also be able to develop close relationships with the faculty. I spend my time about equally on campus and our downtown area. Lincoln's downtown area is great because it offers movie theaters, restaurants, bars, ice cream parlors, smoothie shops, and great clothing vendors. I love football Saturdays. The excitement on college game day is like nothing else I have experiences. Fans are kind to the opposing team and there is a welcoming of outsiders to Lincoln. Most schools show disrespect to fans of the opposing team, but not here in Lincoln. We pride ourselves in having and showing great sportsmanship to the fans and teams we play.

Steve

Frequent students complaints are that school is too expensive. There is a lot of school pride. This is a big sports university.

Evan

The best thing about UNL is the people. It is just the right size. I spend a lot of my time at my sorority or at coffee shops surroudning campus. I don't think that its a college town. THe administration is... an administration, enough said. The biggest recent controversy on campus is the moving of the student section. The Athletic Department moved the student section to a horrible spot. There is a ton of school pride, both students and the entire state contriute to this.

Sara

The best thing about UNL is the atmosphere. It is right in the heart of lincoln and you are in walking distance to great restaurants and the movie theatre. In addition it is just the right size with a few large classes but also many smaller ones.

Emmerson

To be completely honest I'm not the biggest fan of UNL mainly because I am a full time student who is trying to make ends meet with a part time job. A lot of college students are in this same situation but I think our situations would be easier if UNL could become less of a "traditional school" as they proudly prounounce. The other thing is that UNL has an enormous amount of school pride. Sometimes a little too much but who can blame them when we're the school of the Huskers.

Sasha

The people more one on one help its kinda big for me i always get a good reaction union yes dont have one that game of tag with fake guns no it doesnt seem like students make friends with each other i went to a smaller school and the classes had about 20-25 a class and i remember all of my classes everyone knew each other and talked, here eveyone seems to keep to themselves the first day of my first semester....i was so lost PARKING SUCKS SO BAD! and its so damn expensive

Tia

I think the best thing about UNL is our team spirit. You come to campus and know that no matter where you come from, you can't help but catch the Husker pride. It also seems that although we are very proud in our teams at the University, we also show respect for opposing teams. Which I have not witnessed in other states. Sometimes it seems like the athletic program gets too much attention which is one thing I would change. Also, tuition seems to be increasing more and more each year and it is leaving some students unhappy.Although the campus is large, I still feel like it is a smaller campus because I always can find a familiar face in a crowd. When I tell people I go to UNL, they usually ask how I like it. I tell them I have gotten an education I am proud of. The classes are challenging and there is a wide variety of classes to take. I spend most of the time on campus in my apartment in Husker Village. By meeting so many people that live on my floor, we have become like a small community which makes for some fun times. Lincoln is a college town, there is no getting around it with 4 colleges here. Despite the college feel, it is also a community that feels like a small town.I think it is interesting that we have the largest dorm on campus (Abel). When I first visited the dorm it felt like it was a mile long, but I quickly took notice of the openness of it. People would be hanging out in one room, doing homework with each other in another. By having that sort of feeling it was like if you had any problems you could always find someone to relate to. Being apart of Scarlet and Cream has been one experience that I will always remember. Especially performing before game days at the Champion's Club.

Allysa

The atmosphere at UNL is great. The thing that I like the most is the amount of support that is offered to me. There are tons of great resources on campus that can satisfy any of my needs and wants. Also, the Lincoln community is very supportive of UNL students, whether it be through offering discounts at local businesses or partnering with the colleges to offer internships or jobs. School pride here is very strong...people proudly wear Husker red! Parking is probably the biggest student complaint; it's kind of expensive and not always convenient, but they are working on getting more available spaces.

Chris

The best thing about UNL is Husker athletics and the coaching endorsement program. The transfer student program for education majors is so strict!!! I lost 19 credit hours because they have their own classses you HAVE to take. If you are looking to be a English major than GO TO CLASS!!! And if you go to class and do the homework you will get an A. If you are a retard like some of my friends and decent at math than major in Finance, easiest major in the world at UNL.

McKenzie

One experience I will remember from UNL is the opportunity I had to work with and meet so many great and talented people. This ranges from the cheer squad I was on to the residents on my floor.

Samantha

The best thing about UNL is the challenging courses. However, sometimes the classes are a little to large, I feel that I couldn't get challenged in the psychology field like I do at UNL. Most of the time people think it's really cool that I go to UNL, but they are always like "oh I but it sucks that the campus is so big". I don't think it's all that bad that the campus is big,it's good exercise, it is unfortunate on rainy and snowy days though. I spend most of my time in Burnett Hall, that is where a lot of psychology classes take place. I think Lincoln is a college town, but you could also raise a family here it just depends where you live. There is alot of school pride it's crazy how much people love the HUSKERS!!! I will probably always remember waking up at 6:00 a.m to go to college gameday!!

Lauren

I transfered back home to UNL after my first two years out of state. It was really refreshing to come back and experience UNL. I think that Lincoln and UNL offer a lot more than what meets the eye. For me it was the atmosphere on and around campus. Theft is a HUGE problem at a lot of other colleges but at UNL and in Lincoln people just maintain a higher standard of conduct most of the time. People are very friendly and helpful and the professors are really accessible here. Another thing is safety. I feel safe in Lincoln - the corruption, drugs, gang violence, guns, rapes, and bar fights from other larger cities hasn't come here yet the way it has to other places.

Melissa

It's hard for me to choose just one thing that's great about UNL. I love being at a large school where there is so much to do. It's also very nostalgic for me because I grew up watching Nebraska football, and now I get to go to school here. The only thing I would change would be having to pay tuition, but who wouldn't change that? The size of UNL is just right for me, and Lincoln is definitely a college town. There are a lot of things to do that are geared towards college students, as well as families. Everyone has a positive reaction when they hear that I go to UNL. Most of the time they immediately say something about the football team. I spend most of my time at Henzlik Hall (the Teacher's College). The biggest controversy this year was probably with the football coaching staff and the firing of the athletic director. I'm anxious to see how this next season turns out! There is a lot of school pride. Everywhere you look you see red. (Hence, the "Sea of Red"...) There isn't a lot that is unusual about UNL that I know of, other than the fact we have some celebrity alumni. There are a lot of things that I will remember about UNL. Hanging out at the Union by the fountain in the spring, walking around campus, being in the pep band, getting into the teacher's college... the list goes on. The most frequent student complaint is probably cost, but that comes with any college.

Kayley

-UNL offers many opportunities for students to become involved -I transferred from a tiny private university and love UNL's large student body size. -Most people don't even know where Nebraska is. -I live in CBA. I'm there about 12 hours a day. -Definately a college town! -I'm not a fan of the administration. At all. -Biggest recent controvery: student football tickets and seating -HUGE amount of school pride! Husker Red!

Katie

There are so many opportunities here and there is a club or organization for everyone. I have found so many great things to get involved in and I have met a lot of great people doing it. If there were one thing I would change, it would be the walking distances! Especially from Harper, Schramm, Smith!

Jessica

One of the best things about UNL is its beautiful campus. It can only be fully enjoyed when it's not 30 below zero and blizzarding, but when Spring hits and the fountain turns on, it's a lovely dwelling place. If I could change something about this university it would be the fact that we don't have a lot of campus-wide activities going on very often, and when we do, often times I don't hear about them because they aren't usually publicized very well. That frustrates me, because I like to attend the big hurrah events when they set them up, but we don't usually get emails, it's mostly just a few posters on campus, so if you miss them, you are in the dark. Size-wise, this school fits me perfectly. The intro classes are ginormous, so it takes a couple of years to get into classes where you might actually makes some good friends because you can find each other on a day to day basis. As a girl coming from Bellevue / Omaha, it fit my lifestyle well. For those of you coming from small towns, it's a good community here. If you're coming from a big city, it's a lot different here! It really depends on your personality and what kind of campus you are looking for. Be prepared to answer questions about / defend / say you don't care about the Huskers (football team) if you go here. That's what people will ask you about. When I lived on campus, when it was nice out, I spent most of my time walking around. I got some great exercise that year! It's fun to walk downtown or out in the Haymarket. There's lots of little shops and places to explore. I'd say UNL is definitely a college town on this side of Lincoln. There are lots of businesses geared towards college students. If you go into the other parts of Lincoln, it's a lot more middle-class suburbia. Students do have a lot of school pride here, I think mostly due (once again) to the strong affiliation with our athletics. One unusual thing about UNL is the overpopulation of squirrels who aren't afraid of people and stray kitties. You can't take two steps in any direction without seeing one of those two critters meandering by.

Jenna

The best things about UNL is the husker atmosphere on game days and all the extra events like Big Red Welcome and Get Rec'd. One thing I would change is to somehow connect city and east campus a little better because most students on city campus know nothing about east campus. UNL seems like a large campus but it is not that big once you know your way around so it is just the right size. When I tell people I go to UNL they always ask me how I like such a big school. Since I am a freshman I spend most of my time in the dorms. Lincoln is a college town. THe administration I have met at UNL so far are extremely nice and helpful. The biggest recent controversy on campus was the athletic director and football coach change of positions. There is a lot of school pride.

I hated UNL- the only good thing was the socialization and the night life. I would make the professors and faculty treat students better. The school is way too big. It is a college town- downtown is just for college students. UNL in my experience has the worst administration I have ever come across in the different colleges I have attended. They do not care about students, they are not fully educated in their field, a lot of them are foreign so it is hard to understand in class and they treated others with disrespect. The late night randomness and the life of Abel Hall. Professors are discussed most in student complaints.

The best thing about UNL is the people. Overall, the people I've met on this campus are much more friendly and welcoming than those I have met from other campuses. If I could change one thing, I would make UNL more diverse to help combat social, ethnic, and various other stereotypes. UNL is 'just right' in terms of size, because although there are over twenty thousand students, you can still walk to classes and see lots of friends, and the great size of the institution allows it to have more student resources than a smaller university would normally have. When I tell people I go to UNL they are usually a bit surprised because I'm originally from Minnesota. I spend most of my time on campus in my dorms, either studying or hanging out with friends. There is quite a bit of school pride on campus, especially when it comes to football. The tradition of Nebraska football is incredibly strong, and that is reflected by the great support the program receives all throughout the stae.
