I love the school, it is the literal definition of what I thought the college experience is. I have made so many friends on and off-campus. the community is great. There is also a lot of involvement with the school. I feel safe all the time, I have never felt like I needed help. People are always there to guide you and make you feel like you belong. There is no discrimination and the school is just amazing as it is.

UNE professors are committed and approachable. Multiple professors were very accommodating when I had a family emergency. The programs were good, but there were limited opportunities to participate in research. It was also difficult to work anywhere that was not on campus. My largest complaint stems from the Student Affairs department. The school required that students live on campus until senior year or until the age 22. Even if 22 or about to be, they made the process very difficult and financial aid was not understanding of the financial burden living on campus put on students. Being a RA provided some relief, but required a huge amount of attention and time that impacted the quality of my academic work. The housing staff also required RA's to log interactions every month, which was uncomfortable in some instances. Previous full time staff in the department had no issue throwing students under the bus if they themselves made an error. Academically this school is great, but the student affairs department is terrible.

I knew I had to go visit when I met and the adm. staff at my high school. I loved UNE from the moment I step foot on the campus. It's a small school with a lot to offer. The dorms are clean, good size rooms and even as a freshman I had the opportunity to be in a suite. The professors as well as support staff are always available. It has not been easy during the pandemic but the school did a great job addressing many of the obstacles. Regular testing without penalties. If quarantined the extra support from professors as well the availability of mental health services. I also love the location. I can take a very short walk to the beach or be in town in minutes. It's a small town school but it's perfect for me. I look forward to returning for my sophomore year.

Especially amidst the pandemic I believe that my university is very prepared and proactive with continuing to provide a superior education while maintaining safety for all of us. My coaches and professors are very engaged with us and I believe invested in our future.

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

Most of my professors know my name except for my Chemistry lecture, where I am 7167. I love Mar 105, Marine biology, with David Guay. I least like Chemisty, where the professor could care less about any one student. The classes where teachers know your name, class participation is common. Students aren't very competitive, but there is some, but mostly jokingly about how they fail a quiz. The education is about getting a job, but also learning. I'm a marine Biology major. It is a very well run department, and the labs are very new and up to date.

  15. What is your overall opinion of this school?

The best part about the school is the vicinity to the beach. It is right on the ocean, and the surrounding area is a summer beach house town. The town of Biddeford is very sketchy, and nothing happens there. I would change the food, I don't think there is one person that brags about the dining hall. There isn't anything that says college town about Biddeford, its an old rundown mill town. There is no school spirit, here and the sports are very sub par. I spend a majority of my time at the beach, and in the lounge.

  16. What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

I would say this school is for people who know exactly, what they want to major in during college. If you are not interested in Biological, and Heath science I would look else where. The students here study a fair, amount. Weekends here on campus are very dead. The students either leave or head off campus to house near by.
