What's the dating scene like?

I guess the dating scene is like any other school. There are guys that don't want to date in college and there are ones who do. We are a medium-sized school with a small campus (6,000 students) so the person you're dating is probably interconnected with other people and words spread out depending on the enclaves you belong to (eg. student-athlete, Greeks, black community).

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The over-emphasis on the CJ and Engineering programs.

The university has a friendly environment. It's a small school so you get to know your peers. The class sizes are small and the faculty is always available and willing to help. They want you to succeed and if you need any help there will always be someone there for you.

Where is the best place to get work done on campus?

I would definitely say the library. If you're like me and you want to study and get homework done where it's quiet and there are restrictions on noise, then the library is the case to go. The basement is where moderate noise is allowed but the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor is where you have to be QUIET at all times. Also, some of the dining halls on campus like Bartels, WOW, and Dunkin Donuts are also good places to get work done.

Describe a typical weekend.

A typical weekend for me consists of -getting my homework done -working -going to parties (occasionally) and getting drunk -hanging out with friends cause why not -attending events that are on campus -going on trips that are put on by SCOPE ---I loved the Dave and Busters trip -pissed off that dining hours are limited... -visiting the downtown New Haven area -maybe seeing a movie

How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?

It all depends on you: if you're the type of person that wants to check in with your parents 3 days a week or maybe once a week...that's your prerogative

Describe a day on campus you'll never forget.

The day I met the girl who would become my 1st best friend coming to UNH as a transfer student

What do people really wear to class?

Whatever they want...this isn't high school where there are restrictions to what students can and cannot wear..... plus it's not like we are at an HBCU where your fashion game has to be on a 10.....i'm that type of person who doesn't really give a fuck what I'm going when I get ready to go to class (this is college not a fashion show)...if anything a lot of students may wear UConn (which is the top school in Connecticut) shirts or shirts of the organization they are in....if you wanna show up to class in your pajamas then so be it.... today I would say a lot of college girls wear North Face jackets with black yoga pants with ugg boots

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

One frustration for me at first was trying to get a part-time job on and off campus. I wasn't awarded work study and had to beg financial aid for it. It's hard getting a job off-campus (like say the Milford mall or whatnot) because jobs don't really want to accommodate student when they are on-break (winter break, spring break)..... At first, I thought there were job-seeking students than ones available... but I wouldn't let that deter a UNH student..... it's all about being aggressive to get on-campus....go the career center...they will help better tune your resume and educate you and what to say/not to say at a job interview.... check ur emails because you do get emails about the possible position... the school offers what's called a Bursary Position which is like work-study but with work study you can only work up to the hours you're awarded on through financial aid. With Bursary, you work up to 20 hours a week...and work from start of the school year to the end depending on department working under... i knew work study wasn't going to be guaranteed for me next year which is why I applied for multiple bursary position and ended up getting one....

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of New Haven has become home to a variety of students young and old. Many of the people who attend have found the environment to be one of its strongest selling points. You might never see or experience a community such as this one. Everyone is so open to ideas and constructive, and when not in the classroom the students and faculty are compassionate and warm.

The University of New Haven is a well-rounded college in all aspects from academics to diversity to the faculty. All of the professors have experience in their field and want to see the students exceed. There is always plenty of activities to do on and off campus and downtown. I am looking forward to spending the next three years there.

I loved my school! I wish that the school wasn't so expensive, but the size is great for anyone that doesn't want to travel far to get to classes. There's a lot to do on campus- from Greek life, to over hundreds of clubs/organizations. Professors are very nice and helpful. The library is very relaxed. The food isn't too bad.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of New Haven was not my first choice when looking at colleges. I ended up choosing this school primarily because of their experiential education opportunities. I came in as a Marine Biology major with no experience in marine biology and only a slight inclination for science. As a freshman, one of my first classes was geared around exploring the field, which I loved. The program is amazing, and I really love it. Besides the academics, I love the community and the opportunities I have here. Walking around campus, I always see people I know, and I've found the greatest family I could imagine here. I've also been able to step out of my comfort zone and experience so many new things here. This school is my home.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love my University and the challenges it provides in and outside of the classroom. Not every University is perfect but I do believe that UNH is perfect for me. All of my professors care about my well being and my grades. My University provides me with plenty of extracurricular activities in regards to my major or my hobbies. The University has a variety of campus food including vegan and vegetarian options. As a commuter, it is helpful to have a supermarket right in front of our West Haven campus and the train station is only 6 minutes away via vehicular transportation. My experience in UNH has been the most challenging task I have faced but I am grateful for it because I know I'll be ready for the real world once I obtain my engineering degree. University of New Haven is a diverse institution and it challenges both the students and faculty that are part of UNH. It presents a welcoming atmosphere regardless of gender, color and political status. UNH embodies the life of every young student that aspires to create real change in their community.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of New Haven can only be described in one word: home. During the months off campus for the summer, I find that I constantly yearn for the day I can move back into a dorm at this small, immaculate school. UNH is a small population college, which means the class sizes are comparable to those found in a high school. For someone who loves a personalized, one on one relationship with professors and a classroom full of discussion, the University of New Haven is the perfect place to study. The main focus of this university is criminal justice and forensics, so there is a very small amount of partying, drinking, or drug use, as students take their future careers very seriously. Right off of Boston Post Road, there is a multitude of restaurants, shops, and activities, but the real fun is in the clubs and events right in the heart of the cozy campus. There is something to do every night, with shows and social events put on by one of hundreds of clubs and Greek societies. Although small, the University of New Haven is mighty. It is the perfect place to study for your future career if you want a tailored, experiential, personalized learning environment.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of New Haven is a great school for academics. Great professors and learning experiences. Even though academics is the main focus, there is still a lot stuff to get involved in on campus and even if you don't like one of the 100+ activities offered, you can make your own.
