University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Top Questions

Describe the dorms.

Brian

The south campus dorms are pretty old and crappy but most freshman stay in those anyway and it's not that bad overall. Most of the other dorms have been renovated and are much nicer.

Brian

The quality of the dorms at UNC varies widely. South campus dorms tend to be nicer because they were built more recently, but the quality comes at the cost of distance - expect a 10- to 15-minute walk to class on a good day. North campus dorms are older and some show their age in dirty carpets and lack of amenities, but many have been renovated. UNC offers single, double and triple rooms; suites; and apartment-style dorms, but multiple styles are typically not in the same building. Communal kitchens are typical, but tend to be on the small side for an entire floor to share. Substance-free and living-learning communities are available for those who opt in, and many students often have doors open. Dorms can be loud, so you may have to move to the library for serious studying if your floormates aren't in a studious mood.
