I don't think there is one because there are so many different kinds of people. We are definitely not considered a "party" school, which is a good thing.

The major stereotype of students at UNF is that they are all rich and their education is paid by their parents. That is not true at all, considering most students at UNF have some form of need-based financial aid.

While it is difficult, and unfair to stereotype people, I would have to say that the UNF students typically get stereotyped as frat guys and sorority girls who might not have work hard enough in high school to get into a more recognized school. I think this stereotype is more of less accurate. However, it’s important to understand that not all the students who attended UNF are involved in the Greek system, but you can definitely tell that they rule the school, especially in Student Government. If you are interested in being in a frat or sorority, UNF has plenty to choose from, and if you are not interested, you probably won’t feel out of place, as many students are not.

Most people think of the University of North Florida as a commuter school. They believe that the only students at UNF are older people who are working and have children. This is very inaccurate - UNF is a typical college campus with the all kinds of students, events, clubs. etc.

The stereotype has changed over time. At first the school had the nickname of "u never finished" (UNF) and most Jacksonville citizens considered it to be a last-choice school. However, that has definitely changed and the population of the school has grown. Ergo, the stereotype went from the disinterested, somewhat lazy student to the sensible student, one who would like to stay home but still receive a great education. I suppose you could say that the students fit the "preppy" stereotype, but the whole population isn't like that of course.

There have been a two major stereotypes that I have heard, one being the students are all potheads, and the second being the kids who just want to get an easy degree. The first is true to an extent. I have come into contact with a number of potheads but the second I didn't really think made sense. UNF is becoming more and more difficult, and most students are actually struggling.

The stereotype at UNF is that fraternity or sorority is the only way to get involved and have fun. I personally am not involved. I dont think I should have to pay in order to get "friends" and be a part of school. I get involved in clubs and activities on campus in order to get what i want/need out of college. I dont believe this to be accurate because I have plenty of friends and am able to enjoy college without any rules.

UNF is so diverse, with a wide variety of people from different areas around the country. There aren't any stereotypes that I have heard of about people at the University of North Florida. If there are, they would probably be inaccurate because of how many different groups there are.

Because of the size of Jacksonville, UNF has a little of everything when it comes to the student body. There are preppy/ frat students, athletes, beach bums, retirees, professionals, and even intellectuals. The diverse student body is an accurate representation of the greater Jacksonville population.
