University of North Texas Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Dale

Somewhat

Jesse

So, are these stereotypes accurate...? 1: True and false! I'm sure there are kids who wanted to go to UT Austin or A&M and didn't make it in, but that's not the case for everyone. I didn't graduate in the top 10{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my class so UT wasn't an option and I didn't like the "cult" atmospheres of A&M and Texas Tech, so what's the other choice? UNT. For a lot of people, they come to UNT because they didn't like the atmospheres of their other universities, UNT has the largest number of students transferring into it. And the reason they come here is because it is so diverse, cheap, and kind of easy to get into. 2. No... We have a great music program and it's awesome to go to music concerts in the nice, new performing center and we draw attention internationally. But with a student body of over 34,000 students, we have more to offer than music. 3. Refer to post #2. There are many "hipsters" here, which is a drawback for me, but the student population is so diverse you can find your click and settle happily no matter how you tend to stereotype yourself or not stereotype yourself. 4. Mixed. There are some AMAZING programs at UNT and there are some that are just, "meh." If you're looking at the broad scope of arts & science degrees, we have it pretty good. Outside of arts & science which is very broad, I'm not so sure... Now I've been to more than 1 colleges and been to lectures at multiple universities and met a multitude of professors from other universities and I have to say this. UNT will have the BEST and the WORST professors ever. Some are absolutely brilliant and their brilliance will just put you in awe, and then there's some you look at them and wonder how they got a degree let alone a job. 5. Yes & no. If you're a music major, they come from all over the place so if you're one of those kids and live in another state, have no fear! All of your buddies will be hanging around with you all the time! But yes, a lot of students are from the DFW area and commute or go home on the weekends, but that's one of the many reasons people go to UNT. Referring to stereotype #1 many people go to UNT because of it's near location to DFW and didn't go to another school because of it's location. And being right next to DFW opens a lot of job opportunities and fun weekends out.

Torry

uhhhh first hand... yes they are.

Jordan

No!! I've met the most intelligent people at this school and it is rated top in the nation for several degrees. We are "hippie" like in that everyone at UNT is artsy and open-minded. We don't judge other people and being different is a good thing here.

Mel

Yes

Jordan

Nerdy and bandish, no, I'm a psychology major and have absolutely no instrumental abilities. Yeah we are a bit liberal here at North Texas but I'm always proud to talk about my firm conservative values. It can be interesting being a conservative in a school of liberals but theres always great conversation and alot of shared ideas, views and values. We embrace diversity at North Texas.

Danielle

Definitely not. There are a wide variety of students. Some from all over the world.

Debra

Some yes.

Stefanie

Some are.

Ryan

Billy

To a point, yes, there is a large population of liberals, due to it being a fine arts school, but not everyone, there is a large conservative population as well. Not everyone is a music major, I'm not, I came here because it has the best program for my major.

Lauren

Sometimes

Shelby

no....maybe for some of it

Blake

Yeah, in a way. There are lots of liberals here, but personally, my friends aren't that liberal.

Colinn

Yes

Alex

No. Well to some extent maybe. But UNT is extremely diverse, so no matter who you are, you will find people you like and activities you can get involved in.

Amanda

Sure, we have our fair share of fun, but what college doesn?t. I believe that people overlook the fact that there are brilliant minds developing here. The students at UNT are no doubt social, but that also attributes to our love for networking, getting together, and being very proactive about what is important to us. As for commuting, UNT does have a nice amount of commuting students, but mostly you will run into the student that lives in one of our many beautiful dorms (I?m excluding Kerr and Bruce Hall from that list). We also have lots of student apartments that are great places to live. I must admit, however, that UNT is a very liberal college. There aren?t really any restrictions on the students here when it comes to letting everyone know how you feel about a certain issue. Fry Street and our campus courtyards are good examples of this.

Nic

WEll i wouldnt say that UNT is everyones last choice but i do think it is looked as a 2nd grade school that anyone can get into. For as people going home on the weekends its true but since im so invovled finding something to do on the weekends isnt bad at all. I personally love unt i just wish it was recognized more.

Parker

I do not think that everyone is a music major, in fact, I only know a few who are.

Aaron

Because we have such a great music and art program, there are a good deal of 'hippies' on campus. In reality, UNT is very diverse with a good mix of every kind of person. None the less, there are an abundance of beautiful women roaming campus!

Sara

i don't think so or i wouldn't be here
