What is your overall opinion of this school?

Jaylyn

depresses me, but im still going next year. expensive as shit.

Brandon

The school is affordable and offers a lot of programs.

I love UNT! I have had nothing but positive experiences from this school year so far. I really like the fact the UNT is so diverse, and accepting. Anyone can really find a place to fit in at this school. I think my only complaint would be the lack of things to do in Denton. Yes, Denton does have plenty of bars, and clubs, but if you are under the age of 21 there isn't really much to do unless you drive 45 minutes to Dallas.

I personally love the University of North Texas because of how well the administration involves the UNT students. I feel like they are always asking for the student's input on ways to improve the campus. I feel that students have a voice in the what they want their tuition to go towards. For example, my email is filled with surveys and questionnaires on what I would like to eat in the cafeterias, and how should the libraries be improved, and what would I like to be in the University Union, which is one of the main buildings on campus that houses the food court, campus book store, and many organizational departments.

Texas is among the top states in America. DFW is one of the best cities in Texas, and UNT is the largest University in DFW. Denton has grown 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} over the last decade

The best thing about UNT is the diversity. We have a crap ton of international students which being an international studies major I would automatically be biased to love. But besides the foreign students UNT offers every subgroup and click of people imaginable. From your typical party greeks to the funky hipsters to your super intelligent nerdy kid to the social outcast. UNT for me is too small, but I tend to like big things, no homo... (Speaking of, if you're homosexual, we have many gay oriented groups and are known for a great acceptance of the gay community, and to be honest, no one cares if you're gay here. Seriously.) But most people say UNT is just the right size, but I love everything to constantly be busy and full of hustle and bustle, and with being a commuter school, that isn't always the case. But UNT is growing and so is the turn away from being a commuter school. More and more people are living on campus and it's gaining more prestige academically so it's bound to attract people who live further away. I spend most of my time at UNT in the cafeteria because I need to eat to survive. But I also spend a great deal at the gym, which everyone loves going to the gym here just about because it's brand new, big, nice and busy. There's TVs on every treadmill, ladders, etc, every walking/running machine so you can be lazy and watch TV while burning calories. What's better than that? It defiantly has the nicest gym of ANY university I've ever toured (all of them). Also, if you're an incoming freshman, stay in Kerr Hall, it's the biggest, loudest, funnest dorm at UNT. If you're the antisocial type, go to traditions. If you're an upper class man and need quiet study time, go to Legends. UNT is a college town, it's very college friendly and you see a lot of college kids everywhere, but it also feels just like living in your average suburb, yet a little bit trashier... It's not big on school spirit, which everyone wishes there was more of, but we don't have any school teams to really be proud of at this moment besides a decent girls soccer team. BUUUT we did build a pretty awesome new football stadium, got a new "okay" coach, no one special, but an improvement and picked up some somewhat better talent. So everyone is hoping that will turn our football program around. As for basketball, a bit better than our football team, last year they made it to the big NCAA tournament, and lost. But again, we recently picked up some all-star and great local players to improve our team for next year and hopefully in 2 years the program will be GOOD- GOOD not just decent.

EVERY THIng I WOULD CHANGE!!! this place is nothing more than a place for parents to waste money. all they do here is take your money every chance they get... every year they want more, and they never deliver. this place sucks... at this point i know your wondering well if its as bad as you say it is why are you still there? well the answer to that is this is the first university in the nation to offer a degree in my field thus they have the most exp teaching it and are the highest qualified. thats it ... thats the only reason why im still going to this place.

UNT is such a fun, awesome school. Denton is a wonderful college town and everyone is so friendly! The town supports UNT students and it's a great feeling. The size is big but not too big. I've been in classes where there are 200 students, yet I have had many where there are only 20. A lot of students hang out off of campus, since it is a big commuter school. The downtown historical square in Denton has 24-hour coffee shops and homemade ice cream so a lot of people hang out there. When I tell people I go to UNT they say, "Oh, couldn't get into a better school?" This is such a horrible stereotype of UNT. It is a very good school and I actually transferred here from a different university and I'm so much happier. UNT is rated top in the nation for several majors and although it is a commuter school and a lot of people attend after they finish their basics at a community college, the standards are very high and everyone is very insightful and smart. I actually learn when I go to class, something I can't say about every school. There isn't a lot of controversy on campus. The liberal atmosphere and students are very laid-back. People do their own thing and no one downs them for it. Parking is a problem sometimes and people get mad about it, but that's a problem at other schools too. There isn't a lot of school pride and that is one thing I wish there was more of. Many people live far away so they come to campus, go to class and then leave. We don't have a great football team so attendance at the games is small, but we have a new coach and everyone is hopeful that the program will turn around. Maybe spirit will increase soon. We have a homecoming bonfire every year and that's a lot of fun. Fry Street was a big part of the fun of UNT and Denton and a big developer from Houston has come in and ripped the historical buildings town to put in a CVS, Starbucks and other commercial chain stores. The thing I love about UNT is that the students don't want that. We want the 80-year-old buildings and the Tomato, a pizza joint only in Denton. We don't want to be like everyone else, and students here love to protest wrongdoings. When they tore down buildings, we protested outside and signed petitions. That's one thing you'll find at UNT that other schools don't have---students with backbones and opinions.

I'm in the MBA program and very dissapointed about the fact that there is no structure to it. Professors and advisors don't encourage or help you get internships. They come and teach their class and their done. Most MBA programs work with professors to make sure that they communicate to students the importance of an internship, of getting a job, of networkin. In fact, most MBA programs create a networking environment so students develop strong relationships. Also, professors don't encourage us to participate in any school activities. The school should not take for granted the value of making the members of an organization feel part of it.

When I first started looking at colleges UNT was my last choice, I actually had never even heard of the school. I was dead set on another school but at the last minute decided on UNT. I was sure I was going to hate it and planned on transferring come 2008's fall semester. North Texas is one of those schools that isn't to big or to small, its just the right size. Because we are a big commuter school those of us that live on campus are a pretty tight knit group. Pride day Fridays are AMAZING, walking to class Friday afternoons the sea of green covering campus is great. We may not win every football game but the Mean Green Pride is outstanding. Post game at Fry Street keeps everything fun win or lose. Our faculty and staff is one of a kind, of the 5 schools I toured in high school North Texas was the only one that took time to make sure I had what I needed to succeed and have a great experience during college. At least once a semester our President has a big open discussion with all the students. She sits and listens to our opinions and concerns. This year one thing we as the student body wanted to see changed was the lack of bike racks around campus. Those opinions were voiced, our president heard them and come Spring semester we had new and more bike racks.

If it were not for the department and degree I recieved would I have attended this college or staid. This university doen't give a shit about the students. I understand college is a business, but UNT is all business. Do nothing to help you with finacial aid. All the frigen fees. I came back to college after being out for 13 years pay fees for shit I did not even use. The rec center I paid 75 dollars a semester for did not step foot in the building. I had no time. Six reg semesters and one summer in school and if you are not in summer school, but registered for fall you can't use any of the facilities. I call bullshit. The finacial aid part of UNT is a very sore subject with me. I originally went to a jr college and recieved an assciates degree in Fashion merchandising knowing I would transfer to a university. I did that and moved to Denton and attended UNT for fashion design. I never finished and decided to return and finish my degree. Well my origninal degree plan was no good, I had been out for to long. During all my time out of school my program had restructured from a 2yr program to three without a minor and the state added more core classes and took away classes I had already taken. What I thought was going to take me 2 years was now going to take me 3 yrs. Ok big deal right what is one more year. Well the government is not wanting to support professional students anymore and I really understand that, except I was not a professional student. I had finished 2 two yrs in the program and was told they were taking all my grants and all my finacial aid away because I had to many hours. Well they changed everything on me. My transfer hours that were for my minor no longered counted for anything except electives (70 hrs). The university gave me no help except that I could appeal for sickness, death, or injury. Well I just happened to be out of school to long and everything changed.

UNT is a great school. You are going to find the same issues as you would at other schools, such as a prof you won't like or high tuition. But what I've seen, the majority of the profs care about their job and students, the school has a great selection of majors for Undergrad thru Doctorate, and they people are nice. Denton is great town, good bars, good restaurants, and lots of parks.

Ryan

I find the administration at UNT to border on the corrupt. After being here for 2 years, I have seen 0 new teachers being hired, no new technology I have benifited from, or new facilities for my use. Yet the administration has seen fit to give itself raises and bonuses.

Billy

Its a good school, the people are ok, but the school sprit is lack luster, no one comes to sporting events. Campus is Beautiful, and the town isn't surrounded by the university, the town has its own life outside of UNT.

Lauren

The best thing about UNT is it is convenient. Compared to other schools on my list, it was cheapest and it was also closer to home. One thing I would change is the green color, I liked it better when it was forest green. If I am on campus, I spend most of my time in the Union because of the Volunteer Center. There is not much school pride because, well at least for me, UNT would not have been my first choice school if it hadnt been so convenient. However, UNT does have good specialties such as music and RTVF.

Shelby

The best thing about UNT is that there is a large diverse group of students. For the most part, everyone is pretty friendly and happy. It's also exciting when semi famous people come here to speak for whatever reason. There's usually always something new going on on campus. Aside from the social aspect, UNT offers many degrees in different areas. Major classes are at a good student teacher ratio. There are many resources that are available to the students such as a million different libraries, gyms, labs and so on. Most of the buildings are located in close distance to one another. UNT is a pretty large campus. It's definitely a college town. If you were to go to walmart all you would see would be mostly college students. When I tell people I go to UNT I don't really get much of a reaction as I would if I told them I went to UT. I spend most of my time on campus in the art lab because they got those really cool new mac computers! Also, finding parking is literally imposible unless you wake up at 6 am and come to campus and just finish sleeping in your car. Don't bother wasting your money on a parking permit. Figure some other way out. You also have to drive like 10 mph because there's potholes EVERYWHERE!!!! There's also been construction going on for the past 5 years here and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Don't bother taking the bus either because it takes about an hour to get anywhere you want to when you might have well as walked. The bus drivers will drive and then randomly decide they need a smoke break while you have 5 minutes to get to class!!! Our infamous "Fry Street" is Crap street...they tore down Naranja, my bubble tea place and were suppose to replace it with a CVS, which they didn't even do!!! So now it's just a big pile of dirt! Another thing, they don't have a donut shop! This is unacceptable...how many mornings i have woken up and craved for a sprinkled frosty donut! Someone needs to start one, and whoever that someone is will be rolling in the dough. I know this sounds all morbid and horrible and it probably doesn't say too much about UNT, but for the most part, it's got it's highlights and you'll learn to love it. It's an experience, but make sure you have friends to enjoy it with or make some...otherwise you'll be VERY VERY VERY bored! UNT isn't really the safest campus or county. In the past few years there have been a number of murders,deaths,rapes,diseases....not good things, but at least we have blue light emergency telephones...thing! Just be sure you don't walk alone at night! Also, we get hit with the weather pretty bad up north. I'll never forget the great flood of denton 2007! The water was so strong that I almost got sucked into the drainage and died. I also won't forget the random snow blizzard in March 2008....it was like 78 degrees a few days before and then the next thing you know denton is completely covered in snow. School pride varies with people. As for me...it's pretty much non existent. Our teams pretty much suck...there's nothing to be proud of. The only unusual thing I can think of that UNT has...or had was an albino squirrel...until a hawk ate it.The albino preservation society was really mortified by this incident and no longer is an organization on campus.

Blake

The best thing about UNT is that most of the professors are decent and they actually care about what they are teaching. I would say that a drawback of UNT is that some classes need to be smaller. Class in the Lyceum is totally ridiculous! The biggest recent controversy on campus was when Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity suddenly cut more than half of their members after a "hazing allegation." Some of my friends were SigEps and they said that they never took part in hazing and it was just politics and conflicts inside of the fraternity. We have no school pride. Parking is a disaster on campus. It's just not even worth it to try and drive to class.

Colinn

The best thing about UNT is the Pohl Recreational Center.

Alex

I definitely love UNT's diversity. I haven't been to other colleges much but I've heard we are very different from most. My eyes have been opened to so much, especially since I am from a very "non-diverse" hometown. I've met so many different people and learned a lot. If I could change anything, it would be on-campus parking. If residential parking is hard to find, then the parking permit prices should definitely go down!!! I love the size of UNT. It's still considered a large school but the campus is pretty compact. I wouldn't change it at all. Most of the time when I'm on campus I'm at the rec center or in a cafeteria. I see people I know all the time and I love living in the dorms.

Amanda

The most important thing about UNT is its location. Denton, Texas may sound like a very rinky-dink town, but the students of UNT and our neighboring school of TWU have made it everything that could be desired of a college town. Denton is a very versatile town, there are areas where it is quiet and secluded when you need to get away, and there are areas where you can always run into friends and hangout when your in the mood. There are also tons of clubs littering the streets of Denton. Most of the clubs are busiest and at their social peak between Thursday and Sunday and every other day, there are specials and events to partake in your spare time. Another great aspect of UNT is our facilities. Our newly built Pohl Recreational Center is totally state of the art and free to students of the university. You can always wake up early, get some breakfast, and start an early workout because the Pohl Recreational Center opens at 6:00a.m. and closes at midnight. UNT also has 12 residence halls and most of them are very impressive. I personally stayed at Victory Hall, which is across the highway from campus. Victory Hall is one of the 5 new dormitories that UNT has built for its increasing population of students. If the idea of living across the highway bothers you, there is no need to worry because UNT supplies free transportation to its students through the 10 bus routes to various buildings on campus, apartments complexes, dorms, and even to the mall! If I had to find any drawbacks to UNT, I would have to say that the school spirit is definitely lacking here. Football is key in Texas and our football team is getting better, but by no means are we the UT Longhorns right now!

Nic

I love the classes most of my teachers are so knowledgeable and they seem to really care about teaching what they do. It's sad that they dont get paid that much and we end up losing great professors because of the pay. If i could change one thing it would be for our football team to be extremely good which in the end would publicize UNT a lot more. I think the size of UNT student wise is just about perfect i wouldnt want it any smaller maybe just bigger. The acutally size of the campus is pretty good some of the buildings are starting to get old but i still love my campus. Alot of people dont really know what UNT is unless they are from around the area. Most of the time i spend in the Union which i wish was bigger and more lively. I party every weekend; UNT is def a college town.I love the UNT admin they are really careing. Pride? i wish UNT had a lot of school pride but that again depends on athletics. Being in the best fraternity on campus (Theta Chi) will be the most memorable thing on campus. The biggest complaint is parking.

Parker

The best thing abour UNT is hard for me to define. My parents are both alumni and I have been coming to North Texas since I was really young. So, it is very difficult for me to chose one thing that I like best. I love how UNT students are allowed to get into sporting events for free. I feel that this encourages school spirit, as well as, builds community within the univesity. I also love how diverse each class on campus. I feel like every class offers something different for each student. I think the school size is just right. People noramlly react in a possitive way whenever I tell them I am from UNT. I spend most of the time in the dorms, since I am an RA at Maple Hall. I wish that there was more things for the college student, that doesnt involve drinking, closer to UNT. I dont really have an opinion of UNT's administration. I think that there is a decreasing sense of school pride. The most common complaint espcially in the dorms is not enough parking. The experience that I will alway remember is the game before UNT won the Sun Belt Conference and the players had an away game, so after the game, they came and high fived all the supports at the game. It was an amazing moment for all in the Super Pit.

Aaron

UNT is in the heart of Denton. Denton, to me, is a college town. However, it could be much better if UNT were not such a commuter school. Becuase it is just north of Dallas, a lot of students choose to live outside of Denton. This takes away from the amount and options of night life and entertainment the city provides. This town has great potential, and once people start staying in Denton, it will explode. Becuase UNT is such a transfer school as well, there is not a unified sense of school pride. School pride is on the rise, however, because our sports teams are shaking it up and starting to play better in the Sun Belt conference.

Sara

There's lots of green space. I'd fix the Dean of Students office because it's inefficient and ruins students motivation. UNT is the perfect size. When I tell people I go to UNT, most ask "where is that".
