What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The most important advice I would give my high school self would be to go strait into college. Taking time off may seem the best option at the time, but many high school students who take time of from their studies never make it to college. I would also encourage my high school self to remain focused on the prize. There will be distractions along the way, but always keep her eyes focused on her life goal. Assuring her that her economic status at the time will not reflect her outcome as a human being. At the time working full time to help her family may seem as the best option at the time, but only by educating herself will she be able to make a diffrence in her family financial situation, community and society as a whole.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Reflecting on my journey through my college years, I would strongly advise myself to start immediately and finish!! After high school, I attended college briefly before life changing situations knocked at my door. Once I answered that door, it has taken me over 10 years to catch the "college train" and stay on it. Family and health issues caused me to often fall off the train and lose my direction. Now that I have returned to school to complete my degree, the sky is the limit for me. I have found out the harsh way what results from not going to college, disappointments, educational and fundamental setbacks. College is the gateway to true success because it engages my mind and spirit to learn new things and apply them. The reward of attending college is the innovative leader that is born, you!

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Unique traits University of Phoenix has are being able to set your schedule to fit your life. Another thing that stood out and made it unique to me was the schools drive to focus on putting you in courses related to your major so you don't take unnecessary classes.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to apply myself continue to push to the finish line, your senior year is just the begining of the rest of your life. College is nothing like high school you get to choose what to learn and the staff is way more willing to help. Going to college will be the biggest and best step you take into growing in your adult life. College may seem like it is going to consume your life but it really doesn't, you don't have to go to school from sun up to sun down, no need to be afraid of being in class with people that are older then you because at the end of the day you all have the same goal to earn your degree and better your life. The biggest word of advice is just don't be affraid follow your dreams, do what you love and use that as your motivation to excel in all that you do. Set many of goals to use in guiding you to moving forward and never give up on yourself because you are your own biggest fan.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

The one thing I brag about most is how easy it is to use the online campus and how helpful all my instructors and advisors are.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back as a high school senior, I would give an advice that working hard is the most valuable matter so that high GPA could be achieved. The reason why this is helpful is that having more than 3.8 final high school GPA have more opportunity to qualify free school grants at different Educational institutions. If I could do so, I might decrease my schooling expenses to pay loans and have happier life moment now as well as in the future. Additionally, I could had finished my degree some years earlier and perhaps, I might being attended in higher Education level in this time. College life is an experience of real daily life aspects. It allows to practice and train the mind to do the best way as responsible as possible.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

I wish I had known University of Phoenix well before four years ago. If I had known more idea about it, I might already have graduated my bachelor’s degree by now. It is because it gives more opportunity to take class beside of job. Although it costs more money for schooling when it compare with the other universities, it takes short time and provides practical career based knowledge than them. For example, Students who they attend in other Universities might have less debt yearly though it take them 6 to 8 years to graduate their bachelor’s degree.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to plan ahead. It would be better to get into school right away, instead of chasing foolish dreams of glory. College would actually make the pursuit of those dreams more feasible. Put aside your pride and your fears, be willing to learn. Try to succeed, it is what you were meant to do. You can make something of yourself. If you do it now, it will happen luxuriously. But wait and you will find yourself weary and harried, working to support yourself and possibly others while trying to achieve your goals. So please, go to school now.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself to study and study hard. To buy the act books and read them thoroughly. I would tell myself to listen in math and to not slack off. I would tell myself to take the act more than two times. I would tell myself all these things because I am not proud of my act score because of that I have had to take classes that has pushed me back. I would tell myself to study because I never did. I always told myself that I would do all this in college, and I do. I would tell myself to take the act one more time because I think I would have done better and not had to take the classes I did. I feel like the last thing I would tell my past self is to make up with my friend, because she went to the army and got married but I never attended them because of the fight we had. She will not forgive me now. I don't know if we would be in friends now but i feel like i would want to be there when i was not.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to my high school self i would say: Tanisha, no matter what you may have heard about college, its not as bad or hard as you think. Yes, its going to take time, dedication and money. Although you know your mom cant afford to pay for your education, there are other options such as the pell grant, scholarships and school loans. This is your senior year so take time out to research colleges and financial options. Dont worry about what everyone else is doing. You arent missing out on anything. Focus on doing the best you can in each of your classes and start creating better study habits because you are going to definately need it in college. Dont wait until the last minute to do your homework. If you dont push yourself, you will never be able to reach your full potential. You are smart, intelligent and theres nothing that can stop you but yourself. Be all that you can be and do it with a smile on your face.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Anyone can attend this school. Especially someone who needs the extra encouragement to continue their education to completion.

University of Phoenix was designed for people to go to school full time while working full time and or having a family.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I have been going to school since I was 20 and I almost 34. It has been a very long trip and this is mostly because I never made school a priority. If I were able to speak to myself as a high school senior I would definitly tell myself to make college a priority. I never made high school a priority becuase I was never told I could go to college. I also assumed I never could because my family had no money and neither did I. I didn't think it would be possible to work full-time and go to college. I would tell my high school senior self that there is financial aid available fto help with college costs as well as many scholorships to apply for after you have established a good college GPA. I would tell myself to try to work part time so there would be more study time. Lastly I would tell myself that it is ok to get a bad grade. I have learned that sometimes when I work really hard I get a C and at least I know I really earned that C.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back in time and talk to my high school senior self the first thing I would say to myself would be to apply for as many scholarships as I could, because I could never have too many. The second piece of advice I would give to myself would be to not stress and worry about small things like one mediocre grade because even though C’s are not the best grades, they still can happen on a rare occasion, no matter how much you study. The third piece of advice I would give would be to try and buy food from the campus as little as you can because it can get expensive and the money could best be used towards tuition. The final piece of advice I would give to myself would be to not worry about what I wanted to do as a career; and that I would figure it out before my first year of college. These are the peice's of advice I would give to my high school self about college if I could go back in time.

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

University of Pheonix is unique in the fact that it is geared for non-traditional students. The classroom schedules are made with the flexibility that allows me to work full time and maintain a healthy balance with my life.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The advice that would have been great would have been to make sure I was not only receiving loans but making small payments on the loan amount each month to reduce my final balance in the end. I would have liked to learn more about financial responsibility because it was not a topic discussed in my home and the importance of starting and finishing your education early so that you could have the ability to stand out in recovering economy.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

They were very helpful when enrolling and gave me more than enough information as well as weekly calls to ensure that I feeel comfortable in my environment.
