What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Leydiana

The most important advice I would give my high school self would be to go strait into college. Taking time off may seem the best option at the time, but many high school students who take time of from their studies never make it to college. I would also encourage my high school self to remain focused on the prize. There will be distractions along the way, but always keep her eyes focused on her life goal. Assuring her that her economic status at the time will not reflect her outcome as a human being. At the time working full time to help her family may seem as the best option at the time, but only by educating herself will she be able to make a diffrence in her family financial situation, community and society as a whole.

Reflecting on my journey through my college years, I would strongly advise myself to start immediately and finish!! After high school, I attended college briefly before life changing situations knocked at my door. Once I answered that door, it has taken me over 10 years to catch the "college train" and stay on it. Family and health issues caused me to often fall off the train and lose my direction. Now that I have returned to school to complete my degree, the sky is the limit for me. I have found out the harsh way what results from not going to college, disappointments, educational and fundamental setbacks. College is the gateway to true success because it engages my mind and spirit to learn new things and apply them. The reward of attending college is the innovative leader that is born, you!

I would tell myself to apply myself continue to push to the finish line, your senior year is just the begining of the rest of your life. College is nothing like high school you get to choose what to learn and the staff is way more willing to help. Going to college will be the biggest and best step you take into growing in your adult life. College may seem like it is going to consume your life but it really doesn't, you don't have to go to school from sun up to sun down, no need to be afraid of being in class with people that are older then you because at the end of the day you all have the same goal to earn your degree and better your life. The biggest word of advice is just don't be affraid follow your dreams, do what you love and use that as your motivation to excel in all that you do. Set many of goals to use in guiding you to moving forward and never give up on yourself because you are your own biggest fan.

If I could go back as a high school senior, I would give an advice that working hard is the most valuable matter so that high GPA could be achieved. The reason why this is helpful is that having more than 3.8 final high school GPA have more opportunity to qualify free school grants at different Educational institutions. If I could do so, I might decrease my schooling expenses to pay loans and have happier life moment now as well as in the future. Additionally, I could had finished my degree some years earlier and perhaps, I might being attended in higher Education level in this time. College life is an experience of real daily life aspects. It allows to practice and train the mind to do the best way as responsible as possible.

I would tell myself to plan ahead. It would be better to get into school right away, instead of chasing foolish dreams of glory. College would actually make the pursuit of those dreams more feasible. Put aside your pride and your fears, be willing to learn. Try to succeed, it is what you were meant to do. You can make something of yourself. If you do it now, it will happen luxuriously. But wait and you will find yourself weary and harried, working to support yourself and possibly others while trying to achieve your goals. So please, go to school now.

I would tell myself to study and study hard. To buy the act books and read them thoroughly. I would tell myself to listen in math and to not slack off. I would tell myself to take the act more than two times. I would tell myself all these things because I am not proud of my act score because of that I have had to take classes that has pushed me back. I would tell myself to study because I never did. I always told myself that I would do all this in college, and I do. I would tell myself to take the act one more time because I think I would have done better and not had to take the classes I did. I feel like the last thing I would tell my past self is to make up with my friend, because she went to the army and got married but I never attended them because of the fight we had. She will not forgive me now. I don't know if we would be in friends now but i feel like i would want to be there when i was not.

If I could go back in time and talk to my high school self i would say: Tanisha, no matter what you may have heard about college, its not as bad or hard as you think. Yes, its going to take time, dedication and money. Although you know your mom cant afford to pay for your education, there are other options such as the pell grant, scholarships and school loans. This is your senior year so take time out to research colleges and financial options. Dont worry about what everyone else is doing. You arent missing out on anything. Focus on doing the best you can in each of your classes and start creating better study habits because you are going to definately need it in college. Dont wait until the last minute to do your homework. If you dont push yourself, you will never be able to reach your full potential. You are smart, intelligent and theres nothing that can stop you but yourself. Be all that you can be and do it with a smile on your face.

I have been going to school since I was 20 and I almost 34. It has been a very long trip and this is mostly because I never made school a priority. If I were able to speak to myself as a high school senior I would definitly tell myself to make college a priority. I never made high school a priority becuase I was never told I could go to college. I also assumed I never could because my family had no money and neither did I. I didn't think it would be possible to work full-time and go to college. I would tell my high school senior self that there is financial aid available fto help with college costs as well as many scholorships to apply for after you have established a good college GPA. I would tell myself to try to work part time so there would be more study time. Lastly I would tell myself that it is ok to get a bad grade. I have learned that sometimes when I work really hard I get a C and at least I know I really earned that C.

Leslie

If I could go back in time and talk to my high school senior self the first thing I would say to myself would be to apply for as many scholarships as I could, because I could never have too many. The second piece of advice I would give to myself would be to not stress and worry about small things like one mediocre grade because even though C’s are not the best grades, they still can happen on a rare occasion, no matter how much you study. The third piece of advice I would give would be to try and buy food from the campus as little as you can because it can get expensive and the money could best be used towards tuition. The final piece of advice I would give to myself would be to not worry about what I wanted to do as a career; and that I would figure it out before my first year of college. These are the peice's of advice I would give to my high school self about college if I could go back in time.

Joni

The advice that would have been great would have been to make sure I was not only receiving loans but making small payments on the loan amount each month to reduce my final balance in the end. I would have liked to learn more about financial responsibility because it was not a topic discussed in my home and the importance of starting and finishing your education early so that you could have the ability to stand out in recovering economy.

Crystal

As a vcollage student I would like to tell my high school self to remain on task. When you are getting ready to graduate make sure to put your education first. Dont get discouraged if your parents have bad credit and your student loans dont go through. Life may put many obsticles in the way of success but if you keep in your mind what you want nomatter what anybody says there will be a right time and place to reach your dreams. I would like to remind my high school self what a strong person I am and nomatter what learning challenges I have there are people out there willing to help with my success.

Mayool

The advised that I would like to give myself is that do not give up in any thngs that you do becuase there is help somewhere what for you.

Egda

I would tell my self to make sure I did not play and paid attention to school right out of highschool. I would have also told my self to get a better feeling for what I wanted to be before attending core classes. I would also make sure I understood how important reading and studying the material realy is before class, aswell as how hard it can be to have a family and go to school at the same time.

Assuming I could go back in time and have a discussion with myself. I could very much alter the course of my soon to be complicated mess up life. The simplest advice would be "STAY IN SCHOOL" ! Ask for advice and guidance from your mentors, instructors and parents. Become as knowledgeable as possible about several different occupations and careers. Then choose and stay focused on an individual career that will help you succeed to financial stability. I will continue to inform my high school self about the importance of grades and better study habits. I would make clear to myself there are many different paths a person could choose but, establishing your security and independence is crucial in your up coming life and its obstacles that could hinder the outcome of your well being. In reality of this advice I would have to take into consideration the time era and family related circumstances. Without hesitation I would tell myself wait to have children, stay in tune to your immediate family. Secure your future and take every opportunity to invest your talents to learn as much as you can about computer technologies!

Natasha

Assuming I could go back in time, I would tell myself that school is important and that time is not infinite. I would say that because enrolling in college is something that can make my life better, not only better for me but my children. I need to become a role model and if that takes studying hard then I should make sure to do that. I would also tell myself to not be afraid of understanding a question and knowing the answer. The questions are tools used by the teachers in order to make sure students comprehend the lesson plan. With the questions it's great to learn one new thing a day; you never know everything even if you think you do. Lives are tough and unpredictable but if there is a way to make a difference by getting a great education then go for it. Make sure life is happy and fulfilling. Excel in something you are passionate about because it won't feel like work. Love what you do, make a difference.

You are a senior now. You've made it...this far. You have much ahead of you. Now, we need to prepare for college. Thank God my school offers college courses. Hmmmmm let me see. I am going to take my English 101 and 102, those are two of my pre requisites. Don't take marketing... It will mean nothing when you get into college. Try to stick with pre reqs. It is just a waste of time. I'm telling you, I know. Take some foreign language. Spanish, in fact that always helps. Keep your grades up!!! You have always had a 3.2 or higher. Let's shoot for a 3.7 or higher. Don't worry it will all be worth it in the end. In a couple of yeras, you will be thanking me. Not to mention the fact that you will stand out with grades that are above average. You stay active in sports. That takes away boy time. Focus more on your academics. Start filling out scholarships. School isn't cheap. You've completed Gates, but there are plenty others. I'll see you at the other end. Success!

Miranda

If I were to go back in time, I would tell myself to spend more time with my friends, because they're not going to be right down the street anymore. Your best friend is going to be 6 hours away, and your boyfriend will be 8 hours away. Don't worry about the little things though, high school is nothing like college. So far college has been easier, classes get out whenever the teachers are done with the subject matter for the day. If you miss a class (which I advise you don't), your parents won't be called. So far college is easy, but you need to spend time with the people that mean the most to you, before they all move away.

Tanya

Go speak to the councelors about all the PSAT, SAT, and ACT tests for colleges, improve my GPA, and apply to as many colleges, grants, scholarships, and government programs to help me with my future.

catherine

I would tell myself that it is not as a scary as "you" think. The classes transition by starting off easy and get a little more difficult one class at a time, but it is nothing you cannot handle. Also, remember teachers are only human too. They are like any other person, a little respect and patience goes a very long way. You will make life-long friends and make possible career connections. You may find things out about yourself you didnt know, like that you are an environmentalist and a humanitarian. And, most importantly, there is ALWAYS someone to answer any question you may have, there is nothing to fear.

Stephanie

Stay in school. Make the commitment and get serious about college. Failure to do so only costs more money, more time and lost opportunities. Don't let anyone say it costs too much, or its too hard. The cost of the education will pay for itself over time, based on the type of opportunities that open because you have that degree. My parents never believed that my education would really make an impact, and now looking back as I have a very successful career I only wish I would have committed to my education earlier. I now have my dream job, but in retrospect I might have been able to obtain that dream earlier if I would have just believed in what I could accomplish. Now I help others create opportunities and change lives.

yanet

Jennifer

I would tell myself that school is a serious matter. It is as hard as you make it. If you focus, manage your time effectively, and are loyal to your goal you can be a really successful college student. Also would tell myself that doing well in college and implementing the changes necessary to succeed I can have a great impact on my future. Having an education can help achieve many things in life and can add great value to my life and the life of my family and children. I am my own legend!!

Jessica

I would tell myself not to stress out, and learn something from all my perceived mistakes. I would tell myself to take my time and not to worry - I'll know what to do someday soon, and you're going to love it. Above all, don't decide to do something that you do not want to do, or you feel would only make others happy and not yourself.

Laura

I would tell myself that even though i dont understand now grades really are important doing my best in school will really help my life in the long run. I would also tell myself to devlope time managment skills and focus on studing a lot more so that when i reached the level of college education i would be ready. I would tell myself to get into school right after high school not to waste any time goofing off or not deciding what i want to do i would make sure i knew and understood that school and education IS my future.

krystel

The advice I would tell myself is, take advantage of all time and use it wisely. Because that time will be benificial to you when you use it to put extra effort in the things you do. such as researching, brainstorming and writting good papers. I would also tell myself to take advantage of any learning oppurtunities because knowledge is power and when your older all that knowledge becomes wisdom.

Jacinta

I would tell myself to stay in school and make sure to keep your grades up if you plan on going to college or getting a job in the future. I woud also let myself know that you never get things for free, so make sure you work hard for everything you want out of life. But always do things the right way, never try to cut corners because it will never get you anywhere in the end. So in the end always be true to yourself and you will always come out on top.

Araceli

I made alot of mistakes as a teenager, so the first thing I would tell to myself is the consequences of those mistakes so I dont repeat them. After I would tell myself the importance of my education towards my future. A person becomes what a person makes of themself and the more you know, the more opportunities will be available.
