University of Puget Sound Top Questions

Why did you decide to go to this school?

I had grown quite dissatisfied with my time at the University of Oregon for a number of reasons, foremost among them the overwhelmingly large nature of campus and classes. I knew that a smaller, more intimate learning environment was something that I wanted for myself, so I began to tour small liberal arts colleges in the Pacific Northwest. Everything about the University of Puget Sound felt right to me during my visit, and after I was accepted I enrolled without hesitation. I have loved every minute of my time here, enjoyed every relationship with my peers and professors and I excitedly await two more fantastic years.

I had several factors, including wanting to stay with my current dance school, that were important enough to me to decide to stay in the area. Otherwise, I probably would have been like a lot of other students at my small, private high school and would have been expected to go to a school in California or somewhere across the country. I consider myself very lucky that this decision led me to Puget Sound. Honestly, I wish someone would have told me what an outstanding school there was just 40 minutes south of Seattle that would have made my decision a whole lot easier. It is just far enough away from Seattle that I feel like I can't go home every weekend, which has pushed me to live independently. I have grown to know and appreciate the Tacoma area, especially the North End where Puget Sound is. It came down to deciding between Puget Sound and University of Washington, and sometimes think about what it would have been like at a huge school like UW, but when I think about my favorite aspects of Puget Sound (regular one-on-one interactions with my professors and the relaxed Greek Life) I realize I would not have found these at a large state school.

I decided to attend Puget Sound due to its location, academic and athletic strength, and beauty. I love being in a small college town but close enough to a big city (Seattle) if you want it. I also enjoy having a balance of academic and athletic pressures; I do not feel that one has to take precedence over the other. They can be present together; it is not one or the other. Lastly, campus is absolutely gorgeous! If you haven't seen it you should!
