University of Rhode Island Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Abbey

I found dealing with the admissions office at URI to be very frustrating. Several times throughout my four years at the university I had difficult interactions with the office. I had difficulties dealing with the office in reguards to tuition payments, grades being posted incorrectly, class scheduling confusion, and transcripts no being delivered in a timely fashion. Additionally, I found the representitives at the office to be rude at times and seemingly unwilling to help.

As a freshman student coming to a new school there were many new ideas and places to take in. Even threw all of the wonderful things about the campus and education of the university there are some aspects that can be frustrating. The most frustrating thing about the University of Rhode Island is the way the advising offices are set up and run. However, even with this frustration the guidance people are very well trained to help students.

Alexander

The teachers are not always approachable. I find that the teachers and advising members often care more about their own reputation and trying to come off as a reputable person rather than trying to help.

shirley

there nothing really frustrating about my school, except that its far from my house and i have to drive 45 minutes to get there.

Elias

The most frustrating thing about my school is that many events are held off campus.

Julia

The most frustrating thing about my school is the fact that the campus is located on a hill and that we lack a dance program and/or major.

Abiola

The most frustrating thing about my school is the location of the school. The school is built on hills, so it gets hard walking up the hills during the winter months.

Adam

All the work

Alicia

The classes are great, the food is nice, and the dorms are comfortable. The only frustrating thing I have to say about my school are the hills we have to walk up and down every day. It gets a little challenging when there is ice on the concrete and I have to walk up a forty five degree angle hill.

Jeff

The most frustrating thing about school is not classes or exams because I think my high school prepared me pretty well for that, but it is the food. I wish for what i pay, I could get something more delicious.

Rachael

It is frustrating when you're sitting in class with kids who don't care. I'm in school because I'm trying to be someone and get somewhere and it's frustrating when people take for granted the education that's sitting right in front of them. There are kids in our own country who would kill to go to a university, and yet there's kids who blow off school. It's a shame.

Oluseyi

The most frustrating thing at my school is distractions, because you could get distracted by all your surroundings

Lindsay

Certain classes are only offered during spring or fall semesters.

Alyssa

My commute to the school.

Chelsea

Some of the peole still stick to high school ideals.

Amanda

The most frustrating thing at URI would probably be the dorms in freshman year. There are usually roudy people who like to stay up late and be loud. This is really frustrating especially when you have 8am classes.

Katherine

Some of the instructors are not the caliber I was used to from high school, it is very discouraging, especially when they are disorganized and have a large class; also the old, in need of repair dorms.

Meagan

The most frustrating thing about URI is that sometimes you cannot get a permission number for a class that you need to take. I find that they give out permission numbers to students who don't even need to take the class.

Christopher

The most frustrating thing about my school is that sometimes the professors do not give back your grades until almost the end of the semester. This is an inconvenience because you are always on the edge with your grades and you never really know what grade you have. Also parking is hard to find close to campus.

Maya

Where it's located and some of the people.

Dayna

The most frustrating thing about my school is that there is nothing to do there (activities, entertainment), you have to pay way too much for everything. For the amount of money we're paying, we should have an amusement park or a resort to hang out at. There is not enough parking space, and it's too expensive to get a permit. Everyones just doing their job, not really getting involved and making a comfortable environment.

nicole

most frustrating thing are all the hillswe have to walk up and parking for commuters

Brian

classes do get to be too big sometimes

Shauna

Teachers not always being readily available or losing my grades >:O

Kira

It's dead on the weekends. Everyone goes off campus and then there's nothing to do on campus but watch movies, drink or find some way to get off campus. The school doesn't sponsor enough activites spaced throughout the year.

brenda

The most frustrating thing about my school is getting around. Although you are allowed to bring a car freshman year, for students who choose not to do so have a hard time getting around.

Nicole

You have to walk a long distance from class to class. Busses are available, but I perfer not to take one.

Jennifer

housing department. also when it rains the school turns into a giant river and you get soaked walking anywhere

Zack

The best way to answer this question is through 2 categories (academic and social). Academically, the most frustrating thing is competition. For example, URI's business school is the most in-demand for students. Many want to major in a business-related field. If your GPA is not high enough, or if you struggle in Accounting classes, the business school will reject you and suggest finding another major. Socially, it is the dry campus policy. This is the time in a person's life to truly enjoy themselves, but strongly enforced rules penalize those who get caught partying on campus.
