University of San Diego Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Gwenllian

The lack of presence of the creative and performing arts. The arts would bring much diversity to the school, and it is a shame that the intellectual options are so limited and stifled since there are few creative outlets. Other problems: tuition and a hefty core curriculum.

Jennifer

Honestly, UCSD is a great place, so the worst thing there is to complain about would have to be the lack of parking spaces! It really discourages bringing a car to campus, and without a car you're kind of stuck in La Jolla, which can be a boring place if you stay for too long. It's also partly why there is overcrowding on campus; people choose to live on campus because it's easier than commuting and having to find parking.

Brittany

Th worst thing I would say is how hectic it can be to get the classes that you need. Thousands of students need a certain class and it may be filled before you can register for it.

Emerald

It is small so there is not always that much to do on campus or that much variety in opportunities.

Colleen

Despite the financial aid I received, the tuition costs were definitely the worst thing about the school. Between the cost of living in San Diego and the tuition, it was distracting for someone like me to focus on my education when I had to worry about how I was going to pay for my next meal.

Emily

Despite what they attempt to advertise, there is very limited diversity of the students, faculty, and staff. The population is overwhelmingly white.

Mollie

The girls (in Southern California in general) tend to be very catty and can make people anxious to the point of not remembering why they are here or what is actually important in life.

Arianna

There are not too many weekend activities that do not involve alcohol. It is difficult to find a social life on campus if you are not a drinker or not part of a sorority or fraternity.

Bahawa

The curve and that very few students get an A in the class

Kristiana

There is not a lot of school pride, which I think would make the campus and its students feel more like a community.

Danielle

Superficiality, because a lot of the students come from a lot, and it is evident in their behavior and attitudes

Stephanie

It is so expensive that only very specific kinds of students are able to attend. This greatly limits the ability for people to develop relationships with those who grew up differently then they have and thus few people are really exposed to new and different ideas. Everyone went to the same expensive prep schools or private schools all their lives and everyone has the same political affiliation as their parents: apathetic. There are few attempts at changing the status-quo, even when there is a general consensus that something should be done.

Jennifer

I cannot get enough financial aid to continue going it.

Leah

They nickle and dime you to the extreme.

Ashley

I really don't know what the worst thing would be. I suppose there is a lack of activity on campus during the weekends.

Melissa

Some of the people are way too materiablistic and it gets in the way of learning when people are too focused on what car they have or what designer they are wearing.

Michael

The worst aspect about my school would have to be a lack of diversity in the student body, with the majority of students being from the mid-west/west United States and mostly caucasion/white.

Ginna

The cost of attendance!

Katherine

The worst thing about my school is the lack of school involvement and spirit. We offer many sports and have well-funded sporting events, but a lack a fans in the stands. Students would prefer to go out and drink the night away, rather than attend a fun soccer game, or football game. Our men's basketball team is the only team students remotely support and even their games are slim in attendants. I admire the school spirit and fellowship of large schools compared to our small school, pathetic involvement.

Johnny

I come from a middle class family and mostly everyone who attends USD comes from extremely rich families and in turn some are rather snobbish and rude to others. However, my high school was the same way so I am rather used to it.

Adam

As a private university, the cost to attend is extremely high. This contributes to a somewhat lack of diversity and small size.

jaclyn

rich, snobby kids

Courtney

There are a lot of people here because of their money and a lot of people here because of their scholarships so there is sometimes a social distinction because of wealth.

Christina

Its too expensive

Alexandra

The girls here are bitches and the guys think they are hot shit. Everyone drives a bmw or a benz, range rover etc, with their gucci bags. This school has often been called, University of Spoiled Daughters.

Brittney

The worst thing is that there is not much school spirit--athletics are not a big deal at all. Even the sororities and fraternities are not a big deal.

Elizabeth

Financial aid

Jessica

I think the advising at USD doesn't help students specifically to their vocation, I want to be an optometrist and my advisor did not once tell me the classes I needed to prepare for the pre-med track.

Carleigh

That they pretend to care about going green but in truth only produce merchandice rather than putting our recylce bins. The bureaucracy can be brutal.

Akta

The advisors not actually being there for me when i was in a tough situation with my personal life and balancing school.

Guy

The lack of racial diversity and the cost of tuition.

Christina

The worst thing about the University of San Deigo is the tuition price. I dont know anyone who can afford to go here on their own, most people here have some type of financial aid. For example, I recieve very little financial aid and although I need more USD cannot give it to me because of all the other students who have financial aid. The $40,000 a year tuition price is outrageous and it is the worst thing about USD.

Theodora

SO CONSERVATIVE - they don't even sell birth control at the health center! Its also too strict regarding alcohol - public safety isn't there to guard you, its there to get you in trouble for partying.

Michelle

I would consider the worst thing about the University of San Diego is the lack of diversity. College is a time where students should embrace variety not succumb to conformity. My school consists of wealthy, white students, with few differentiating cultures. I feel if anything students conform to the behaviors of other students instead of reaching individuality, which is pertinent during the college years.

Christine

The campus is quite large and shuttles don't run in the summer school so if you're taking summer classes its best to have a bike or else you will be walking for a quite awhile to get to class.
