What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before coming to the University of South Carolina, I wish I would have known what a big deal the sororities and fraternities are here on campus. It seems that the school ( socially and academically) revolves around these organizations. They get speacial treatment.

What campus housing was REALLY like - TINY rooms and even TINIER bathrooms! No kitchens available to underclassmen, either, so you're forced to eat with a meal plan freshman year if you live on-campus or eat out all the time. Also, the availability of off-campus housing - very affordable with three or more people, and there are apartments everywhere! Also, the parking system is a little behind, so it's really hard to find parking unless you want to shell out major dollars to get a garage spot (something like $600/semester for some garages).

That the school would not accept me for instate tuition after living here for over a year; and not giving me much financial aid.
