University of South Florida-Main Campus Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Heather

I have found people of all different backgrounds. Most people are very open to all issues.

Jackie

I feel USF is a very diverse school, there are many different races, religions, etc. I think this helps make going to USF a better experience. A part of going to college is becoming a well-rounded person, having a diverse school helps each student become more well-rounded.

Alex

Most students were sports wear or jeans and t-shirts, flip flops and hats. My old school was a fashion show everyday! This school is a melting pot. You meet people from places you never thought existed. Everyone seems to get along. It's not segragated. Everyone seems to interact with one another.

Monica

I think every type of person is welcome.

Kristen

I've had experiences with all groups as a result of being in a sorority. I've had the opportunity to work with and to meet an ENORMOUS diverse group of students. I don't think any student would feel out of place at all. Most students wear something simple to class: jeans, shorts, t-shirts and flip flops. Yes every type of student interacts. Financial background is typical "college student" financial situation. Yes very politically aware and active.

Rogue

Its not the student body that people have a problem with, when it comes to religion and other groups, its the crazy religious people that come from a church or outside that come and preach saying everyones going to hell and that women should learn etc... also about a week ago there was a group that had pictures of aborted babies and they compared it to genocide, which I thought didnt make sense at all, cause genocide is killing a RACE of people, and not all babies are being killed, if they dont like people aborting babies then they should go to the adoption agencies and take the kids home and take care of them, then come to us and preach. Different types of students interact, its not like highschool with cliches, its more opened. Most students are politically active.

Dana

Students at USF are crazy. They love to support our school and wear the Bull with pride. You have people from all walks of life that come here, so being understanding is super important. Everyone is super nice to each other. Guys hold doors open for me, and everyone says please and thank you. It is such a great atmosphere. You have everything from the jock to the band nerd (me) to the prep in your class. There are no cliques anymore. Everyone is so accepting of each other.

Charlie

THere is a very diverse student population at USF and making friends is easy for anyone who wants to

Morgan

USF is very diverse and I think most people can easily find a niche at this campus. The campus and the student body are predominantly post-modernistic and liberal, but that is to be expected at a college campus. However, there are opportunities for dissenting voices to speak out. The campus seems to be very political, but not as motivated in regards to academics.

Jamie

I am part of Alpha Kappa Psi and it has developed my professional skills. There are no students that should feel left out unless they want to.Most student wear USF gear to class. The students at USF from all over and backgrounds. The student come from a diverse financial background. The students at Usf are politically aware and most students are left wings.

Alex

One major plus for the university is its diversity. There are plenty of groups represented on campus, and numerous student clubs and organizations tailored for anybody who needs to find their niche. I think most students tend to wear name-brand stuff. I don't think the mass of the student body is political minded- there is great apathy there. And they don't talk about how much they'll earn one day. I don't think the mass of students are forward-thinking.

Jennifer

There are a vast number of religious and multi-cultural groups on campus. USF also has multi-cultural sororities and fraternities. USF students also have the opportunity to apply for Honor's College. Some departments offer honors programs for specific majors. For example, the College of Arts and Sciences offeres an Honors Program for Communication Majors. It is very difficult to feel out of place at USF. There is always so much to do, and there is a common place on campus to get to know people and get involved. Most students dress casually to class. It's warm here all year so we wear a lot of shorts and t-shirts. Winter gear is definitely not necessary. It seems as though most students come from middle-class families. Though I have to say from my experience, this school is accepting of people from all racial, ethnic, and financial backgrounds. Students are very politically active on campus. We have a student newspaper that prints daily. It covers local and world issues. There are also free copies of the TBT (Tampa Bay Times) on campus. This newspaper is geared for the younger crowd. There are a lot of articles in it about world issues. There is no specific political affiliation at USF. There are students that are Democrats, Republicans, and neither.
