University of South Florida-Main Campus Top Questions

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Carlos

Most people there are not there by choice.

Victoria

The worst thing about my school is that there are only a handful of teachers and staff that honestly care about their students succeeding in their careers.

Christopher

USF can be crowded at times and some of the buildings are old but it is growing. The traffic here can be pretty horrible but there are ways around that. Some departments outside of engineering and bio-med can be pretty shabby. Some of the advisors are the worst at giving advice and can be the worst thing to happen to a discouraged student.

Megan

Our campus is still not known for having its own on campus life. With the resident hall only being open for a couple years and the campus not doing much to support on campus living, it's more of a convenience than something fun. I would like to see a cafeteria and a game room or lounge added. Something to make people want to live on campus and be there.

Katie

The worst thing about my school is the city with which it is located in. Tampa is extremely busy at all times of the day and can be a pain to get around.

Alexandra

Lack of ability in the administration staff. No one seems to know exactly what needs to be done to acquire a degree. Planning all around is horrible and they tend to waste funds on signs that are not neccessary.

Michael

Worst thing about the school is our location. In order to get into the "nice" area of Tampa, you'd have to drive at least another 5-10 miles. Our school is located in the "poor" area of Tampa

Alexander

being downtown because we get a lot less fortunate people wandering around campus

Aesop

The worst thing is the fact Univeristy of South Florida is a growing school. The cost to attend is rising

Courtney

The worst aspect of USF is definitely the size. There are so many people everywhere. It makes it difficult to form close relationships and feel comfortable. I prefer to be in a smaller setting with fewer students so the massive size of the University of South Florida is challenging.

Erin

At USF, the professors and advisors are very negative towards students. I have come across few professors that want to actually help students. Every advisor I have come across is negative. I have heard from other students that their advisors are negative as well, saying that they need to improve their grades or will not make it. These people I talk with are not stupid.

Jacklyn

Nothing at all, i love it

Julie

I dont really have anything bad to say except how much it costs for out-of-state students. It is very unreasonable. They should also pass a bill where you can get residenct if you are enrolled in school.

Gabrielle

The worst thing about my school would have to be the traffic it takes to get on campus sometimes due to Tampa traffic.Finding parking spots can be quite the task!

Katie

The worst thing would be the lighting of the campus at night. The only well lit area is around the dorms but often times people have night class across campus. So its hard to see until you get back to the dorms.

Bradley

The distance from an urban center.

ashley

n/a

Amber

The freshman and sophmore class sizes are large, so it is often difficult to interact with teachers and students.

Brooke

I attended the Lakeland campus, so I didn't get the full "college" experience.

Mark

Very liberal.

Nicole

Nothing really

Kelly

Our Financial Aid office is very unhelpful and tends to release very important information to students on Fridays at 5pm when they are about to cloes for a long weekend or holiday.

Desiree

Lack of available parking, but they are building new parking garages so this problem should be solved soon.

Kaeli

The fact that our tiny campus has about 8 cops. We have about 5,000 people, and with the new dorm building, I feel they should have added more security since we are surrounded by a nasty neighborhood.

Anthony

Not a "College Town" feel.

Shawn

The current financial climate of Florida's university system, augmented by Bright Futures scholarships and prepaid tuition, forced drastic cuts over the past year. It affects admissions as well as everyday activities. Also, the view of USF on a national level inhibits students' postgrad opportunities.

Ivan

The education itself is not the best in the world. It is very easy to cheat and get away with not knowing the material and passing a class.

Jason

The worst thing I would consider about my school is it's staffing and administration at times. Whenever a student or parent may need information or help of some sort, the staff tends to lead you in circles before they actually assist and help you solve your issue.

Chris

Lack of financial aid available to EVERY student, not just lower-income.

Kimberly

Parking and Transporation because there is never any place to park unless you want to park across campus.

Beatriz

Advisors

Kristen

The campus police.

Misty

The traffic around the school.

Roma

Registration can be an issue

Anne

The worst thing about my school is parking.

Shardae

The worst thing would have to be the cost of tuition. It's going up every semseter and it's hard to keep up with it. Financial aid is not helpful any more cause you'll still end up working a full time job to pay for books and other expenses.

Latiffany

I consider the high standards placed on the HESI exam is the worst thing about the College of Nursing at the University of South Florida. I feel like that test should be given, but with less emphasis placed on the test because some people aren't good with taking test.

Kirk

The academic advising.

Liam

It is very difficult to stand out academically when everyone around you is trying to shine brighter than you. Then, when you lose confidence in that arena, your sliding GPA will be looming, and you will be in fear of losing your Finalncial Aid.

Jaclyn

The worst thing about my school is that there is a big campus and sometimes it takes a lot of time and energy to get from one class to another. There are buses and shuttles though that can provide transportation and plenty of bike racks.

Alexandria

The class sizes. In my science classes, there are typically 150-200 students. This makes it difficult for me to concentrate on my studies when I have to sit in the back of the room since I do not get to class 30 min before it starts.

Sandra

Campus is small.

Dominique

The worst thing would probably be not enough parking. Trying to park is always very time consuming and chaotic.

Tierra

The administration, and the over emphasis of math and science programs. Students and faculty have to jump through hoops to get anything done! Also, the social science and liberal arts programs are almost ignored compared to the science students who get state of the art equipement and loads of research and internship opportunities. The liberal arts and social science building are some of the oldest on campus!

Nicholas

The half an hour to hour long endeavor to find a decent parking space would probably be my pick for the worst thing at USF. It was especially bad a year ago when I didn't have air conditioning in my car; that combined with the "feels like" temperature of 100 degrees or more wasn't exactly a good combination for a great day. This problem is only made worse by the fact that each student pays over 150 dollars for a parking decal in the beginning of the year only to spend half a day finding a parking spot.

Chester

I believe there is a downfall in my education. My school focuses on meeting the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology requirements. A good basis for an engineer degree, however it does not implement a practical approach to problem solving which is a key component of engineering. I do not know how to improve the situation because students already struggle with an excessive amount of credit hours per semester specifically in engineering. I also do not know if this problem is exclusive to my school, but it is what I consider the worst thing about my school.

Tequilla

Sometimes the administration doesn't listen and incorporate the ideas of the students or it takes them awhile to implement such changes.

Sandra

counselors are somewhat inaccessible for general ed, once in my major i've had no problem though

Samantha

I honestly love everything about this school. There is nothing I would change and I am very happy with the decision I made to come to the University of South Florida.

Ahmed
