University of St Thomas-Saint Paul Top Questions

Here's your chance: Say anything about your college!

Rebecca

The main aspect St. Thomas has to offer its students is the ability to receive individual academic attention due to small class sizes. St. Thomas provides numerous courses with thirty students or less, giving you the tools necessary to excel both before and after graduation. Few schools have that key advantage to offer. This makes St. Thomas significantly more unique. You get to know your teachers and classmates on a personal level--you feel comfortable asking for help or advice. You also form relationships with professors who can provide crucial connections in highly competitive job and internship markets.

Alivia

St. Thomas is a private Catholic university that has a fantastic reputation for academics. The class sizes never exceed 35 students and the one on one help from professors is extremely helpful when struggling with a new environment of learning when you enter college.

Matthew

The alumni network is astonishing. The mere mention of being associated with the school provokes praise, and opens doors. The business school is well respected for turning out dedicated professionals.

Kevin

Classes are much easier. Class size is smaller. School is roughly $40,000 a year, very expensive.

Jordyn

I think the size of the school is most unique. It is in all honesty, perfect. It is not a tiny campus, but it is not a huge campus. The campus is like it's own little city, and everyone is a family. Another unique thing is the class sizes. There are small classes which is sometimes hard to find at colleges.

Isaac

I looked at mnay private schools around Minnesota. What set the University of St. Thomas apart from the others was its location. Even though as I have mentioned above, many students travel home for the weekends, it is also a fun area to attend school at. It is very centrally located in the Twin Cities area and allows for a lot of unique experiences. I am originally from rural Minnesota, so its an interesting change to be in this much more diverse environment.

Manal

What is unique about St. Thomas is that it has the large school appeal without the intimidation that comes with that and at the same time, feels like you are a part of a small community where everyone looks out for one another, is respectful and always willing to help you.

Corey

St. Thomas has an undergraduate student body of a little over 6,000 students which makes class sizes small allowing for greater interaction between professors and their students. This was very important to me because I learn much better in an environment where I can ask questions if I am confused or if I would like clarification on a particular topic. While tourning the school everyone I met was friendly, upbeat, and seemed very active. This was another reason I chose St. Thomas. Finally, St. Thomas offers many scholoarships to students making it affordable for many budget ranges.

Hannah

The study abroad opportunities are second to none. If you want to study abroad you will be able to- whether it's for a whole semester, over J-Term, or you take the opportunity to study abroad over the summer. Additionally, St. Thomas is a big school, but at the same time it feels like a small school so you get the best of both worlds. This school also offers a Catholic Studies program- the first of its kind and known throughout the United States.

Jessica

There's a lot of student and faculty interaction. It's also extremely easy to see how much the staff cares about you, and how much they want you to succeed. Also, the campus isn't too large, and I don't feel unsafe walking the campus at night. I don't just feel like i'm attending a school, I'm apart of it. The staff does a lot to make sure I feel that way. It's super easy to make friends here.

Alexandria

St. Thomas was very helpful and gave me more financial aid than other schools.

Sam

The most unique thing about St Thomas is that it is in the middle of two large cities with a small town college campus feel. It is in the middle of the hustle of Saint Paul but yet has enough grass and green space to give it the feel of a small community within the campus. One nice thing is that there is never a lack of things to do on the weekend with a large city but yet a small enough school to know everyone who you walk by on campus.

Jeremiah

Our Business undergraduate program is strongly influences by the Opus School of Business for Graduates. It is very strong and well reckognized.

Dillon

It is a diverse campus that has activities and ways to learn for all kinds of people. I am able to find like minded people who are interested in similar things, and there are groups for everyone here. The University cares about its students and that makes a big difference.

Josh

The people - hands down, the nicest people are at UST. Faculty, staff, and students alike. Everyone is so happy to be here and so excited to make the most of their time here and your time here. There is such an awesome sense of community and togetherness.

Joshua

The school is very accomidating to students needs. Every effort is taken into account to make life on campus as comfortable as possible for students. Even when students approachg graduation the school goes out of its way to help the student find jobs for after graduation.

Howard

It is unique in that it is a private school that incorporates the catholic tradition.

Josh

St. Thomas is a great place to live and learn, and I cou;dn;t be happier with my choice. I'm in my junior year, so by now if there was anything that seriusly bugged me trust me I'd tell you about it. Come check out this school - you won't regret it!

Molly

A few things that are not so great at St. Thomas- the food service hours. The cafeterias close at 7pm on weekdays and are only open at select times on the weekends, but luckily there are other places to eat on campus and of course there are tons of places off campus a bus ride away.

Amanda

I have really enjoyed my time at St. Thomas - Check it out!!

Alex

We are in Minnesota, so it does get pretty cold in the winter, but in the sping and the fall we have amazingly beautiful walking/biking paths down by the river.

Natalie

I really enjoy the University of St. Thomas and would encourage people to look into what we have to offer. Come for a tour or an overnight (they are free and free stuff is always good).

Molly

I love St. Thomas, and I'm jealous of the new athletic facilities and student center that are opening next year. I wish I had another year left to use them!

Jillian

It gave very helpful financial aid that other schools I applied for didn't. It is also a large school with diverse majors

Jacqueline

The class sizes here at St. Thomas are great. You have enough people here to bounce ideas off one another, and not feel awkward. At the same time, however, the classes are small enough that the teachers will remember who you are rather than just another kid in their class. Another thing that is great about this school is the Air Force Detachment here. It is one of the bests in the upper midwest, it is teaching me how to be a top notch officer for the air force when I graduate.

Robert

The ability the university has to connect students with events happening around the community. Such as sporting events, theatrical productions, or concerts.

Samuel

My school is a private school located in St. Paul, Minnesota. This unique part about is that it is located in a very large city and that gives it the reputation of a small school with a big city feel. My school offers a free shuttle to downtown Minneapolis, where a student can have a great weekend drug and alcohol free. It is nice to know that the college experience doesn't have to include the typical college necessities (i.e. drugs and alcohol.)

Mitchell

The most unique thing about my school is the people. We are diverse yet we are one. You can find many different cultures on campus and many different groups of people on campus. If you are interested in something there are people on campus that share your interest and would like to help you discover and develop that interest. There are also many people who are there to assist you with any problems or needs that you have. I think that we are unique because we are small yet diverse.

Madeline

I really liked the size of the campus because it is not too large but at the same time it is not a small school. I really like the area where it is located, being close to both Minneapolis and Saint Paul it allows both my friends and myself places to go when we have spare time and places to eat. Another thing about Saint Thomas that I like is that it is a Catholic college I like that the school has values and also legitimately cares about its students and provides help in all asspects of life.

Kelly

The Catholic Studies Department is one of the best in the Nation which is why i chose to attend this school

Ian

good well rounded education no matter what you are studying.

Molly

It feels like they really care more about your future rather then just the education part.

Colleen

It hink it is unique in how personalized they make everything for you. Before you are even a student there they are sending you hand written notes, and Christmas cards. Not to mention how the small class sizes allow you to actually be known and communicate easily with your professor.

Frederick

Great Philosophy department.

Aleksandra

From friends and neighbors that attended the University of St. Thomas, I've only heard great things. I had an idea towards the end of high school that I wanted to go into business and found out St. Thomas has a strong business program. On top of being an excellent school, they have the funding for new and exciting things. Not only are they building a new student center and athletic complex, they gave me the most scholarship money, but I still need help. I am getting a private school education at a state school price.

Isaac

Small class sizes are one of the best traits.

Nickolaus

Small class sizes allow better relationship between students and professors. Beautiful campus, not so spread out and a lot of things offered to do on campus.

Victoria

The emphasis on Studying Abroad and getting a cultural experience. St. Thomas believes that students need to see what else is out there outside the United States.

Mirella

We are a smaller school, with small class sizes, yet we are located in a big city. The off-campus and on-campus social and career related activities are endless. Everyone here is encouraged to be themselves.

Kristen

Our school is unique because of the family we create here on campus. It's big enough where you still meet new people, but small enough where you feel comfortable and like you're in a special community. Also, playing softball for St. Thomas is unique because this team, compared to others I considered playing for, focuses on academics and still has a renowned program in athletics. The team is welcoming and hard working and has really prepared me for real world situations.

Oluwatosin

Great Boy to Girls ratio and A lot of beautiful ladies

Emily

St. Thomas offers religious classes which creates well rounded individuals .

Brent

The teacher to student ratio is unique at St. Thomas and is one of the reasons why I chose to go there. The ratio is 14 to 1 which is outstanding because you get to learn from a professor who knows your name. It is so much more benefical to learn with a class of 14 than to learn with a class of say 75. Learning in smaller numbers allows an individual to be less distracted. A student feels more engaged to the subject because a professor is talking more to you than to a group of many kids.

Maria

It was a religious based , and Catholic based, and the education was good.

Ryan

the smaller campus and off campus fun. your not considered just a number and teachers try to get to know all their students.

Jennifer

The library; there are about 5 libraries here. I also like that the school has travel opportunities to study abroad.

luke

lots of individual attention from profs

Ben

The only other school I considered was UW Madison. The two schools are not alike in any way. Madison has such an incredibly large campus, and is right in the middle of the city. St. Thomas, on the other hand, is nearby downtown St. Paul, but the area still feels somewhat suburban. What's interesting about St. Thomas is that while the main campus functions like this, there is also a campus in downtown Minneapolis, and the University provides a shuttle for students to go back and forth. The size is also much smaller at Saint Thomas.

Kristin

The University of St. Thomas is unique because the faculty care about the success of the students, wheras other schools' faculty do not get as involved.

Joseph

It is a private Catholic school, that claimed to offer great financial aid (which the financial aid isn't horrid, but still covers some expenses). It is a small campus within a large city/cities.
