University of St Thomas-Saint Paul Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Annie

The most frustrating thing about school is trying to get into on campus housing.

Ben

Red tape. There is no one that I can go to who can make an exception to a rule for me so that I can get a better education. Sometimes there are instances in which the rules apply in ways that they were never intended to, and it helps to have someone that can look at each specific situation and make adjustments to certain unnecessary restrictions so that students can achieve their goals with significantly less hassle and wasted time and effort.

Rachel

The frustrating thing about the University of Saint Thomas is getting to know other students. It seems as though within the first 2 weeks of school everyone has already made their group of friends and you are pretty much "stuck" with them. The cliques never break up and everyone else seems to be happy with their group and if you aren't you are left in the dust. The students aren't always friends and activities are awkward and difficult to find.

Ian

The most frustrating thing about this school is that people are "clicky". When you go out to a social even, its not like anyone to come up to you just to meet you. No one really cares about meeting anyone. People generally stick to themselves and to their own kind. Sometimes you even feel unwelcome just because the atmosphere and vibe. It's really too bad that this is the way it is, but doesn't bother me that much because i have found a good group of friends. Ironically, and sadly, I am now a part of this trend.

Abigail

There is no women's rugby team.

Jordan

The amazingly high cost of tuition per year, and how I can't seem to find any help or other resources for extra financial aid.

Michael

The most frustrating thing about this university is the cost of tuition. Although they do provide financial assistance, I still came out oweing about one full years tuition. Which last time I checked was around $35,000.

Joshua

The most frustrating aspect of this school is the lack of available parking. Parking that is available is severly over priced.

John

Although i have grown up in the north country, it would be nice to attend a school in a warmer climate. Walking to classes at 10 below zero can be awfully cold.

Sarah

The cost of attendane is infuriatingly high for an education in a field of study that the school places little importance upon. Instead of going to support my field of study and interests, I feel that the money I have spent on my education instead went towards furthering the school's desire for strong math, science, and business programs, sports facilities, and parking ramps. Recieving financial aid to pay for the cost of education has added to this frustration because the school offers less every year for returning students.

Danielle

The most frustrating thing about this school is the lack of pre-medicine advisement. Anyone interested in going to medical school meets with a science advisor who is only well informed on scientific research. It has been frusturating having to find the information and requirements for medical school on my own without much support from the advising.

Cassandra

The most frustrating is the amount of general education credits required to graduate. Being a science major, most of my schedule is taken up by math and science courses that do not fill the other requirements. Because of this, I have to take more classes than most people and may graduate in five years instead of four.

Andrew

I believe that the University of St. Thomas doesn't quite have it's priorities right when it comes to on-campus security. I feel that the University Public Safety puts way too much of an emphasis on apprehending drunk minors on not enough on helping people on campus.

Samuel

The most frustrating thing about the University of St. Thomas is the fact the Minnesota nice is actually real. I come from South Dakota and never had the time to notice how nice the poeple of Minnesota actualyl are. This is frustrating because I like to be independent and when I am caught struggling people around me never hesitate to offer aid or stop what they are doing to make sure I am doing alright. That is what stands out at my school that sometimes annoys me.

Lee

I wish I didn't have to come out of school with $40,000 in loans, but I'd pay it all over again.

Michelle

The most frustrating thing in regard to St. Thomas is the stress nd difficulty of registration. Registration times are set based on credits, but are scheduled at random times, often during class.

Jordan

The limited amount of study spaces in the library during finals week.

Megan

To be honest, I feel like the University of St. Thomas is a very good college and is very helpful in most areas. I do not have much to complain about. The only thing that I find to be truly frustrating is that as a freshmen I'm required to buy a meal plan. I think it's a waste of money because I don't like to eat so many meals. I find myself going to the cafeteria to eat when I'm not even very hungry and that just causes an unhealthly lifestyle, weight gain.

Madeline

It was very frustrating to try to enroll in a course during January. I needed to take one in order to get a double major in four year, but as a Freshman I got one of the last enrollment time slot. I was lucky enough to get into a class, but it was my last choice.

Vincent

I currently am attending the University of St. Thomas and just love it. I enjoy everything about this institution from the classes to the students. I chose this university for its many fine qualities. I?m pursuing my dream of becoming a dentist and this place has all the tools needed to help me reach my goal. I wouldn?t go anywhere else.

Kesha

As a Freshman, it is difficult to get off campus because of the location of the school. St. Thomas is located in an excellent neighborhood and I love that surrounding area, but it's hard to get around because most Freshman don't have cars due to the overwhelming cost to park as a Freshman at St. Thomas. It's really important to take advantage of the shuttle that St. Thomas provides and even the bus system.

Amanda

What frustrated me the most was that I was put into expanded housing in the begining of the year with 5 other girls and we became very close and now that firs semester is over, we are forced to move into a new room with a new roommate.

Karen

The administration is much more conservative than much of the student body and is not always responsive despite student government.

Thuong

My only frustration that I have currently at University of St. Thomas is finding parking. All of the parking lots are fairly small in size and don't have very many spaces available at all for all of the commuter students. I don't mind parking further out in temperate weather, but when it gets to be extreme temperatures, either hot or cold, it can be a big hassle to walk all the way to class from a distant parking space.

Mark

The amont of work that must be done for class, but its either a ton of work or no work at all.

Paul

Everything is so expensive and there doesn't seem to be enough financial aid to go around. Also students do not appear to be very open minded.

Amy

The most frustrating thing at my school is registration time. Classes fill up so fast! Yet professors are really good about expanding class sizes for those who need the credits.

Elizabeth

The lack of diversity. I expected to meet a lot of students from all over the country, but the large majority of students at UST are from within thirty miles away. I like the people here, but I was hoping to meet people from a different cultural background, or even just from outside the Midwest.

Benjamin

Have to keep a 3.0 to keep your scholarship.

Lindsey

Aside from typical homework frustrations that nearly everyone in school experiences, there is nothing that frustrates me about my school

Colleen

Lack of people for out of state. THe amount of people that go home every weekend. Lack of events on the weekends for the non drinking community.

Jason

I play football and that takes a lot of time, so it makes it tough to get all of my class work done, but it adds a lot of structure to my day, so that actually might help in the long run.

Jacob

There will sometimes be a large amount of work placed on you. You will have to find ways to balance your life between school, work, and your social life. However, the professors at this school are really helpful and really approcahable.

Chia

The amount of work in the classes as well as the amount of classes in the core curriculum in order to graduate. Many of the classes are will create a well-rounded student while some focuses more on the religion aspect of the school.

Joe

Lack of parking near campus.

Amanda

Some professors really dont try to help us succeed and will not have enough office hours for us to meet and succeed

Amber

The most frustrating thing about my school is that freshmen aren't allowed to have cars. You can take buses to anywhere you need to go, but it's inconvenient to find the route, the times, and the trip takes a lot longer than it would in a car.

Jackie

The most frustrating thing for me is that most of the on-campus jobs require applicants to qualify for work-study, which I do not.

Alisha

Getting into classes and still maintaining small class sizes in major field courses.

Sara

The University of St. Thomas isn't a very diverse school. They say that they would like it to be a very intergrated school and yet they hold no events to specifically achieve those goals. Also the student body tends to stick with their own race and so the blacks tend to group up with other blacks and the whites tend to group with other whites. Its not a very warm campus to diversity overall.

Lindsey

The amount it costs for the education I have recieved from poor quality professors

Kacie

The price of on-campus living and the living situations that follow.

Matt

My school is almost too small at times. A lot of the time, I feel like I am in High School.

Blake

I guess to me the most frustrating thing is that despite the overwhelming feeling of being welcomed there is still problems with discrimination. It is difficult to feel accepted in a comunity where some of the professors are openly prejudice against G.L.B.T. students.

Michelle

For me, the most frustrating part about St. Thomas is the cost and financial resources. I do not come from a wealthy or one who is paying for my college education. Instead, I am paying full tuition on my own. It is frustrating and scary to take out loans for thousands of dollars each year. I wish there would be more resources available to earn financial assistance through the school because it is hard when money is always a factor. I would love to study abroad and pursue other opportunities but it will take a lot of financial assistance.

Adriana

Finding the money to pay for my education. Currently my tution is 38 k a year. I cover this with several scholarships, a grant, and several loans. I feel like the school is worth the tution sum, in both surroundings and available equipment, to the education itself. But having a heavy school load and demanding classes, it is hard to hold a job to pay for my education and I have to rely on loans.

Francis

The classes have such a mixed level of abilities, the professors tend to teach to the lowest common denomenator and is frustrating for those most focused. As well, tuition is so expensive even for someone who works full time and goes to school full time.

Yashica

The most frustrating thing about my school is how expensive it is. Don't get me wrong you totally get your money's worth but sometimes I feel like its a bit much.

Charles

The workload is pretty enormous at least in the science classes. Also the food is not the best
