This part year AccessUVA was turned into a loan instead of grant system as I understand it. Also we've had some racially charged incidents. The sexual assault issue has also been pretty big. I think in all of it our administration has tried to brush the negativity of it all under the rug. But I see these issue becoming bigger deals as the directly relate to students and the vision for UVA.

Three major events happened this year: the resignation of President Teresa Sullivan, the presidential election, and the proposal to change the honor system. The political scandal seemed to cast an ominous shadow over UVA, but students banded together to reinstate Sullivan, demonstrating their support for her. The presidential election of course caused political tension. Even though colleges tend to be liberal, Virginia was traditionally a red state. However, it went blue last year for Obama. Thus, we were another battleground state. Then the honor system was recently voted on. Random students would still comprise of the jury rather than elected representatives, upholding our student self-governance, but the accused could now have a chance to return to the university rather than face absolute expulsion.
