What do people really wear to class?

The first week of classes, first years dress to impress, but after that, nobody cares. I personally didn't try hard at all my first week. It's a 50 minute class, who are you trying to impress? Plus, you're going to see these people all the time. Even if you dress well the first day, they're bound to catch you on a bad day. They'll love you for you. So I guess students usually wear sweats or t-shirts and jeans. Comfort is key. I used to wear makeup everyday in high school, now I rarely do. I think you become more comfortable in your own skin here.

At first I was surprised how much everyone dressed up to class at UVA. However, it was also a big relief that a lot of people wear gym clothes to class, too, since UVA is such a physically active school. There are also a lot of people who dress somewhere in between, but these two ends of the spectrum are the most common.
