Ah, the UW. A place where, while arts and sports run thick, the academics run thicker. People do not brag for how much they could drink, but rather what score they could pull off on that exam. The facilities are bright and beautiful, but the cherry blossoms even more so. Blood runs purple, white, and gold. And the dogs are always out. In a place where the majority of undergrads chant PhD as if it were their life mantra, the competition is thick. The large class sizes add to both competition and camaraderie, as no one can truly get through such heavy course work on their own. And, being a commuter myself, I can attest to brilliant bus service campus-wide and year-round (plus the additional bonus of having an ID card double as a bus card was masterful on the university's part). Above all else, the UW is a place for academics and people with big dreams. No matter the end goal, the professors are always well-versed in their fields and treat their students as equals, which has been greatly appreciated by a large amount of the population. People come from all over (the UW sports an especially large international population) in order to get a taste of the beautiful campus, dedicated students, and wonderful teachers that the school provides. While the University of Washington provides a very intensive and competitive atmosphere, it is also a campus that I am happy to call my home. With excellent resources and programs for nearly everything imaginable (even a prosthetics and orthotics program, which is my ultimate target), it is a place of people who are not afraid to be themselves, speak their minds, and are ultimately proud to wear the purple and gold. I have, and always will be, a husky.

The University of Washington is a great school to attend! We have a diverse student body and staff, especially in the UW School of Social Work. The professors are always engaged and willing to meet with students outside of class to make sure students are receiving the best education possible.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Moving to the University of Washington from a small community in Alaska, I was immediately culture shocked by the sheer size of the campus. To get from one end to the other, it takes anywhere from 15-20 minutes. And of course, with a big campus, this means the buildings are just as significant. Equipped with state of the art technology, all of the libraries truly inspire you to study hard for your classes. On that note, the academics at the University of Washington is outstanding. If there is anything that you are interested in, there's probably a professor researching into that topic. From law to oceanography, and astrology to health care, you can find a niche that will help cultivate your interest. The only downside to the University of Washington Seattle campus is that tuition is high and steadily rising. This added stress can be detrimental to your learning objectives as the thought of paying back over $100K in student loans looms over your head. Aside from that, the food on campus isn't the best so students tend to eat at restaurants more. If I were to rate my college experience, I would give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Paying for amazing facilities and world renown professors ends up detracting substantially from the overall experience a student could get from the university.

I think that I can call UW my family and home. There are so many nice people and you can make friends easily. You can ride, how many times you want each quarter, the bus with the Husky Card which has an Orca membership. The food are is available in the Husky Union Building. There are a variety of restaurants you can choose from. Also, in the basement students can play bowling and other games. Teachers and advisors always jump to your rescue. Anyone would feel great at this beautiful campus, especially visiting the quad and taking pictures at the cherry blossom trees. At the IMA, you can not only go to gym, but also to participate in swimming, climbing, dancing, doing pilates, kung fu, and other extracurricular activities that engage students to come and have fun while meeting new people. University of Washington is a diverse community where people from different backgrounds are welcomed. If you have time, one day, visit it, you will not regret it; I see so many people, not only students, who come to University of Washington to take selfies and pictures with their family, friends, and pets. I am happy and proud to attend this university.

There are a lot of opportunities that other students make available. The atmosphere is geared towards networking and success, but they also provide information on mental health. Overall, I believe that there is a reason for it being on of the top Universities in Washington state. It has an amazing campus and staff. There's a lot to learn here.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I find the academic classes at UW to be challenging, which is to be expected at the university level. However, I find the grading system of many large, introductory courses to be unfair. Many of these courses are graded on a curve, meaning that after each exam, the professor takes the average test score (no matter how high it may be) and assigns it a certain GPA. For the chemistry department this ranges between 2.6-2.8. Apparently, professors seem to get upset if their average test scores get too high. In the current setup, one cannot have a fair chance at earning a high GPA without the grades of other students being sacrificed. This discourages students from working together in study groups or attempting to learn the material together because their success will ultimately depend on the failure of other, and I’d like to see this change. UW has several programs to support minorities to encourage diversity on campus. I’d like to see more diversity within the instructors. UW has many athletic teams that offer plenty of sporting events on campus. There a large variety of dorms and housing prices, but I am unimpressed with the housing application process. It doesn’t matter how early you apply, and you have to be very lucky to get your first choice. I feel mostly safe on campus, as UW policemen are constantly circling around campus. The campus itself is quite large but has a well-established transportation system and is nicely maintained. The local area is very vibrant and exciting, but there are certain areas I don’t feel completely safe in. There are several options for on-campus food, which I haven’t finished exploring. I do wish lower-priced meal plans were offered. Student life is nice. There are tons of clubs and programs available to help students meet new people.

The campus is beautiful, and I know plenty of people that go there to know that it is a great school. UW offers many opportunities for students to further their education. It is also a very competitive environment, so be aware. The size is a bit big, and I've heard that classes can be huge. Aside from all that, it is known to be a great school.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The university is a large step up from a community collage, with many facilities for students to take advantage of and numerous specialities. Despite the advantages, the campus does have some odd quirks that were available in my community collage such as paying for printing (included in the community collage admission) or the extremely small desk sizes.

It's a great school. I love everything about UW, from the academics, to my fellow students, and to the campus. It has everything you want from a big university-academic prestige, sports, social life, tons of extracurriculars, a beautiful campus, and on top of all of that it's in Seattle, a great city,

What is your overall opinion of this school?

When first arriving University of Washington, I felt a bit lost due to its large campus and class size. As a result, I started looking into clubs and sororities and fortunately, there are an ample of opportunities here for students to get involved. Students in the campus are also mostly friendly (there are a lot of international students). Overall, University of Washington might be the place for students who want to make connections and participate in different activities!
