The worst thing about the University of Washington is that with the large, competitive student body, many classes are auditorium based. Sometimes the volume of students makes one on one time with a professor hard to get. However, there are many great T.A.'s and study sessions available for these large classes.

Eric

UW is way too big. If you're looking to make life-long friends and get involved in a community setting, this might not be the best place for you. It does, however, offer some of the best academics the world-over. You have to decide whether it's worth it to you or not.

Joel

The time and distance between couses/housing.

rumi

It's hard to meet people if you come from an out of state high school or not a member of the greek life. Also, there needs to be better advising for students on planning thier courses and assessing their skills.

Maryam

The fact that the professors do not care for the sucess of their students.

David

Class size.

Rebecca

The campus is too large. There is only 10 minutes allowed between classes to get to/from each class. As large as this campus is, that is inadequate time to reach your next class (especially if you have to go from one end of campus to the other).

Matthew

I felt as though most of my professors were really there to be researchers and writers. The professors I had (especially within my major of Communication) were very very poor verbal/lecture communicators and didn't facilitate my learning any more than the textbook alone would have. Of course there were a few exceptions...but the general rule was this.

Monica

I'd say the worst thing about UW is the actual size of campus. The Seattle campus is huge; you have to time your walking just right in order to get to class on time. It usually takes about 30 minutes to go from one end of campus to the other so you definitely have to plan accordingly for classes!

Emily

Ensembles, they're not very commited

Katie

The size of the school is very intimidating to many people. Several of my friends chose to not attend the University because of it's size; they were afraid it would be hard to stand out or become involved.

David

The worst thing about my school is the face that frats are the only place that really involve the night social life. If there were other alternatives, being in a frat wouldn't be that in but since its the only way to go to get girls a lot of people join them.

Emily

I would say that the worst thing about my school is the tough grading protocol that some departments have. For example, the Chemistry department puts their average grade at about a 2.8. This means that it doesnt matter if you do "average", you have to be above average. However, if everyone attempts to be above average, then the average grade is raised and its even harder to rise above that grade. It means you have to work SO hard just to get above average. If you ask me, its a little ridiculous.

Erin

The size is daunting to the new student. One feels extremely insignificant and forgotten sometimes. However, this usually creates two different results; the student learns of the impending competition due simply by the massiveness of the student body drives them to demand attention and accomplish distinction or creates apathy because people get forgotten, usually the latter. Another problem is that it can be very difficult to make friends because there is no sense of college community. Everyone is doing their own thing and often stay in the same groups they were in from high school.
