If you decided to live off campus take advantage of Milwaukee's amazing public transportation system. UWM provides FREE bus passes to all of it's current students and there's nothing better than getting dropped off right in front of the school and not having to find parking. If you do live on campus, try and get out into the surrounding neighborhoods via the bus system! It's a great way to get to know your new home and try out some of the amazing things Milwaukee has to offer.

I wish someone had told me how little sleep i would get. in high school i always though an all-nighter was something you did with your friends cause you were having too much fun to go to sleep.In collage, there a little less fun due to the fact that you are forced to stay up to finish homework that is due the next day. Although they are a little rough, any all-nighter pulled my freshman year was worth all of the work i had gotten done. it helps if you skip those few naps after and class and finish homework early so you can sleep when you should be sleeping!

Personally, I wish I would've known how helpful the professors actually are at UW-Milwaukee. For the majority of the year, I was afraid to speak with professors with concerns I had, and that made it extremely hard for me to be satisfied with certain courses. However, I finally seeked help and then realized EVERY professor I had was extremel helpful.

I wish I had known how confusing it can be to navigate the social aspects of such a large school.

When I first moved here I knew that it would be easy to make new friends, but I wish someone would have told me that I shouldn't try to impress all these new people. I'm constantly worried about how people see me and I always try to please everyone. By the end of 2nd semester that got me into some trouble with friends. Also: I don't think freshman should try to get into a serious relationship within the first few months of school. Give it some time to get to know people. No need to rush.

I wish I had known how to be more talkative around new people. There are so many people and I wish I had hung out with more of them, especially in the residence halls. Doing homework all day by yourself can get boring and lonely after a while. It's good to get out and meet new people. There are many activites to get people together, especially through University Housing.

I wish that I would have known the campus itself a little better. What I mean is I wish I would have taken a tour of the campus before attending because the first day I got lost and was almost late to my first class.

I wish I had known my way around the campus and the city before my first day of classes. It is not a large campus but when you don't have any prior knowledge it can be difficult to navigate.

The staff treats everyone like children.

The bus schedule due to living in a dorm off campus, you need to be sure you schedule your days accordingly due to the bus schedule to get you to campus for your classes.

That it's better to have a career not just a job to provide stability at home. Jobs can be temporary and if you can at least get certified in a technical field then you will always have a choice of income. Milwaukee is very nursing and industrially focused.

I wish i would have known how expensive supplies and books can be and that having a job will help with the cost of those things.

I wish I had know what I as an individual wanted. As a student I feel as if I let my self down by procrastinating and not taking full advantage of my resources.

Before I attended UW-Milwaukee I wish I had researched the manyresources available to me. UW-Milwaukee has numerous resources for their students from counseling to paper revising. I was not aware of most of these resources until my first semester was almost over! Adjusting to college and academics would have been easier if I discovered what resources were available I began my first year. After I learned about resources such as the writing center, counseling, technology help, study groups, campus safety services and the many transportation options, my college transition became much more manageable.

Before comeing to this university, I wish I'd known when I should buy/rent textbooks. Some classes required some textbooks, but never used it, which resulted in me wasting money on unneeded books. Now, I wait 1-2 weeks into the semester to determine what are the necessary materials. This way, I save save money to buy any future school supplies.

I think I really am glad with the information I was given from friends and the campus visit days. I learned a lot on my own and it really helped me. I think the biggest thing is a better way to study because I never learned a good way to study in high school.

How to navigate the library.

That they really try to keep partying to a minimum when this is vital to student life on the weekends allowing a way to relieve the stress that builds all week.

I wish I had known more people on campus. I also wish I had known which art teachers are best for which classes.

I wish that I had been more prepared to approach the information learned and other students in my class with a more open mind--with an open mind you are more able to contemplate the information you receive, and learn in a way that has personal meaning.

That the school is really focused on graduate studies and research

Just know that you have to work harder in college than you did in high school. College is fun and you'll meet a lot of great people. And I wish I had known how hard it was going to be paying for college by myself.

keep on track of things early on. The library is the best place to study. Freshman year is a really cool time because you get to do so many new things. Some people spend too much time hangin out with friends, partying/ drinking , or just not studying that they forget why they are there.

I wish I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life when I first started my college career. I'm in my fifth year and on my third major. If I had taken the time to actually think about what I like to do and enjoy, I could have graduated in four years.

I wish that I had looked more into intermural sports and extracurricular activities that they had here before I came here...there are a lot offered that I could have been in my first semester, but I never looked into them enough.

I wish I had known how to use all of the online websites that we are required to use. This would have made the transition from high school to college much easier.

I mainly wish I would have stuck to my original major. I love the major I have now, and I love my program at this school, but if I would have kept my original major of marine biology I would not be at this school. I wish I would have put more thought into changing my major.
