Something that is very obvious about UW Stout and many other colleges is the partying aspect. This can be very distracting and even dangerous for your educational journey. If you have trouble with time management and are extremely prone to peer pressure, then attending this school may lead to a struggle with your classes. I’m not implying that you should avoid this school because of that issue. If you know you have a great head on your shoulders and you are dedicated to focus on your major and develop your skills, then this is the right place for you.
The person that shouldn't attend Stout is someone who work well with computers. Computers are an everyday thing for almost every class you are enrolled in. They can be incorporated into the class by; submitting your work to a teachers account, receiving new assignments from your teachers in your email, presenting PowerPoints, doing research in a class, and using programs on you computer such as Photoshop and InDesign to complete in and outside class work. Also they expect you to check your e-mail and D2L (a grading site) at least once a day.
If you do not like small college towns or are not going into either fashion or some type of engineering, I would suggest looking at other schools besides Stout. While I like Stout, I myself am changing my major to something that is not offered here at Stout so I will be transferring next fall. That is the only downfall I believe about Stout is that their majors are pretty focused careers that usually deal with technology so if that's not what your going into, Stout is not for you.
You shouldn't attend this school if you don't want to know what your potential is. If you want to believe that you have reached your limit and that you cannot possibly learn anymore or do anymore or be anymore than what you already are, then I do not recommend attending Stout. Once you are here you will have so many opportunities to discover yourself that you will most definitely want to strive to reach your potential.
University of Wisconsin - Stout is a polytechnic school that is very small and hands on. If someone learns better by big lecture halls they should not go here. This is a school that should be for people who need more one on one focus. We have a lot of specific majors as well. I am a Marketing and Business major which is only available in University of Wisconsin Stout and University of Wisconsin Whitewater.
The University of Stout is a really hands on school. If you like working out of books more this isn't really a great school for you. It's a polytechnic which is hands on training. It's also not very large. If you want to meet a lot of new people this isn't the right school for you. You will run into a student you know quite a few times.
I would suggest that anyone who needs to be in a big city around a lot of people should not attend Stout. It is a smaller university and much more community based than other schools. Also the surrounding town isn't very large at all so I would recommend that people that dont like that should not come to Stout/
I'd say anybody looking at a degree in IT, computer science, art, and really just about all the other programs they offer. I have never heard a negative remark or complaint about Stout. I've thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The teachers are very good at their jobs, and I have yet to be disapointed.
Some students seem to not want to be at college at all. For whatever reason they come anyway but don't enjoy it and do poorly most of the time. If a student enjoys learnign and can grasp the concepts presented in cources school will be easy and fun.
The kind of person who is not willing to make new friends should not attend this college. Everyone there is helpful and courteous and it is very hard to not make new friends. Everyone at UW-Stout is very nice and accepting of different people.
