Ryan

Try to go to college right after school so you can stay in the swing of things. Make sure this is a career that you want to do and that it is one in the future that will be successful at. Be focused in college and make sure its what you really want to do.

Care about my grades. take it seriously and dont part as much

Michael

I would tell myself to always be organized in the way I study and manage my time. I would tell myself to find out about available scholarships/resources/activities connected to my school, and to be more persistent in forming relationships with faculty. I would also tell myself to try new things all the time, and to not be afraid of people who are different, or of opportunities to do something amazing. I would tell myself to keep my focus on learning and not so much on grades or fun, and to be patient with the weaknesses and insecurities of others. I would counsel myself to be more involved with campus activities and especially to be more supportive of campus sports and recreation. I would tell myself to work harder to allow more time for volunteer and service activities, and any other opportunity to help out or give back to the community. I would also tell myself to help out other students that seem to be lost or confused about where to find the help or resources they need.

jordon

Jordon dont loose sight of your dreams, and always work hard to get it. Dont give up there will be alot of obsticles, and challenges along the way, but if you really to fly then, keep your grades up, and do more studying for the ATC that what you did. Lets face it your score was pretty low. Work hard, hang in there, and dont give up.

I would tell my high school self not to worry so much about the college world, that yes its a lot different but in a good way. To be excited and jump into it, don't let the stress take over. It's easy to neglect your schoolwork and just go to a party but there are always more parties all the time so missing one to do homework and study is better then failing out of college because all you do is party. Be involved in the University and work hard! But probably the most important thing to remember is to apply for as many scholarships as you can find, don't slack off and miss deadlines or just expect that you will get the one scholarship.

Cortney

Dear Cortney, College is nothing like high school. It's so much harder than you think. I need you do somthings before you leave for school in July. You need to find a job! Every little last bit counts! You'll need to pay for books, groceries, and money for socializing. You're gonna do fine with friends. Try to bring as littel as possible. Your dorm is gonna fill up fast. It's a tiny room. Only bring what is neccessary. Study Study Study!! Classes are tough and you're not gonna be able to squeak by. Oh and drop the Brit Lit class. You're not gonna like it. One thing I am going to tell you is to get off the computer. The transition will be tough, and you'll want to cry your eyes out. Joey and Mackenzie are gonna miss you a lot. Please spend time with them. You're going to realize you missed your chance to play and you'll regret it. You're family loves you so much but they know you're going away is what you need to do. Don't let them down. Read your scriptures every day. Cort

College has been a life changing experience for me, especially from living away from home. I have had the opportunity to make new friends, live in a different city, learn to cook and take more responsibility for myself. You do not realize how much you need to grow up until you live on your own. I had never done my own laundry, cooked for myself or had to pay rent/ schooling. These daily tasks in life will help me become a better wife, mother and friend in my future. I have a desire to serve others in my community by teaching them to live a better life, College has given me this opportunity. The classes I take and the expereince I recieve from out of class projects will make a desireable canidate when I apply for a job. I have learned a lot through the different committees I have served on in college. I was able to work with the Special Olympics committee which was a life changing event. It helped me grow as an individual to see people with disibilites do everything they can to live a wonderful life.

College is an experience that is so much more than classes and tests. College is a campus full of students who are learning everyday what it means to be a part of a bigger world that we hardly understand. A campus is filled with people, ideas, holidays, foods, traditions, and beliefs from all different countries and peoples that come together to make something that is a hodge-podge of beauty. College has been valuable to me, yes, because I learned things from a group of really great professors, and I advanced myself so that one day I may be able to get a self-sustaining job and enjoy a life with my family. However, college, had taught me that there is a world beyond a job and a mortgage and that I want to not only live it, taste it, hear it, and smell it, but I want to take these few things I've learned and make whatever part of this big world that I touch a little bit more beautiful. That is, in fact, invaluable.

I have gained a lot from my college experience. First off, being a theatre major I have gained a lot more experience in all areas of theatre. I have also learned a better work ethic as well as better ways of scheduling myself. Overall I have loved my college experience and feel that I have gained a ton from it.

Johannah

I'm trying to get into a nursing school. I doing my pre-rec's now at a community college. By attending my local college . I'm getting all my needed classes to get into a nursing school of my choice. My goal is to finish my community credits as soon as possible allowing me to get into a nursing school. Once there I hope to get my degree in two years. After graduating I hope to get to work and also further my education. Im working full time now and also have a full schedule at school. I live at home and I am trying to pay for my own education. Between working at the nursing home and keeping up with my schedule at school I am a very busy 18 year old. I know what I want from my education and I am working hard to meet my goals Todays hard times have left my parents with little money for college. I want and deserve to further my education.

Michelle

I love what I am studying; Natural Resources and Freshwater Studies, and I would like keep going with my education. My first semester in college I was in the Natural Resources Law Enforcement but I did not like my classes so, I changed my major to learn more about the science in Natural Resources. I am glad I did because I fell in love with everything I was learning. My grades and GPA have been on the raise even since. At the end of my first semester my GPA was 2.80 but at the end this last semester it was 3.70. I feel that I could make differences in how we manage our resources with the raising population.

Fernanda

Being able to come to school has given me much experience. I have grown in many different ways including academically, mentally, and I feel I am taking those steps into becoming independent and self-reliant. I have learned to prioritize my life so that I can manage to balance academics, extra curriculars, and just hanging out all at the same time. I entered college with so many expectations and I learned that they are all possible if I but take the time to make them happen. I have also learned to organize myself. I came to college a messy teenager not able to keep my room and my life organized for more than a day and not I make keeping my room in order and my life and school work organized a priority and I have never been so happy. I think the most important thing i've taken from school is that yes it is definitely hard to leave home and start this new life ,but we are here to learn and grow and make something of ourselves and that this chapeter in our lives is only but a moment so we need not let it pass us by.

Samantha

For the short time I have been in college I have gained friendships, life skills, and knowledge. Oftentimes I am a quiet person and so I find it difficult to talk to others. However, the people I have met and talked to in college have been kind and open towards me, helping me feel like I belong. I used to always depend on my parents for everything, but now I have become more independant and able to take care of myself. It's not always easy or pleasant, but it's one of the most essential and valuable things I have learned. It may be a no-brainer, but one of the biggest things I have received is knowledge. The knowledge and skills I have deloped and will continue to develop will help lead me into my future carreer. School is not always wonderful; however, it's extremely valuable. College is leading me down a path of discovery. I am learning who I am and what I want to become.

Penny

I like the distance Education becuase I can attend school across the state and sill stay in my small rural town.

Benjamin

My name is Benjamin Nwakanma,. Yes, college is a bit tough sometimes, but it could also be a way of learning about life. This is my second year in college, and I can proudly say that I have learned a lot of things (academical/nonacademic). College has taught me how the real world works, and how to haldle different circumstances that may arise. It has also taught me that there are different kinds of people out there, and of course, how to handle them. College is very valuable to me because it is shaping me for tomorrow.

Chantelle

Attending college has been a very valuable experience. There is more to a college education than just attending school. I have gained knowledge about my major from the classes I have taken, but I have also learned a lot about myself. I've learned how to be responsible for my own actions and take care of myself. I've discovered how to better interact with people and make new friends easily. I've improved on my study skills and how to be a better student. I've learned how to manage my time and be able to sort my priorities. I've have developed patience and compromising skills by living with other people. I've found new interests and have really realized how much I love to do certain things and hate to do others. I would never have been able to figure that all out without going to college! I don't regret my decision to go to college at all! It was probably one of the greatest decisions I have made in my whole life that will effect the rest of my life.

Heidi

Utah State is a college all in its own. It is located in an environment rich with opportunities. It employs professors who care about the education their student is receiving, and will work one on one to ensure that concepts are understood and learning is improved. The endless opportunities to go to someone and ask questions is what has helped make my college experience so valuable. There isn't a question that I have had that hasn't been answered by someone of higher authority. There is help and support everywhere I turn, and for that I am grateful. People care about each other at Utah State, and that is what makes all the difference.

Tevin

My college experience actually seems like it will benefit me in my career and in life. As opposed to high school where you feel like nothing you learn is going to be useful or relevant to real life issues. During class or in an on-line discussion I always seem to receive new in interesting information. Growing up in my house, my parents have always said, “Don’t be like us and wait until you are 40+ and try to obtain an education.” They have always claimed that every generation is supposed to better then the last and that I would have a better future if I went to college. College is the place where I could to put all those speeches to rest. When considering my future, I think of the house I would like to reside in and the type of lifestyle I want to live. Furthering my college education does not only benefit me but those who will be positively affected in my life. I seek to be a role model for my sisters, cousins, and all those around me who believe the difficulties of college are just too much for them to bear.

Greg

I have gained a better appreciation for those who are working hard to help make the world around us a better place. Especially for families. Honest hard work is something that I look for in everyone and that is how I strive to be 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of the time. If everyone can work hard and be trusted, the economy, world, and ourselves will be a better place. Integrity in the work force is a must and we learn so much of that here at Utah State University. Doing our own work and coming up with our own original ideas is strongly encouraged and expected. It has helped me to think outside of the box more and to be able to set more goals for my future as a student and a future business person. Attending school is very important here because the teachers have so much experience that attending class benefits you a lot more than just for the exams. I have been expected to work hard at school and have done and exceptional job at it spending countless hours studying and furthering my education as swiftly as possible.

I have learned that i shouldn't be intimidated by the unknow but to be inspired of what can be. When you start college you don't know what to expect therefore, you think it's hard ,however, nothing is hard. Everything can be accomplished if done at the approprite time. I feel blessed that i have the opportunity to attend college and show that not only am i going to college but i will be successful in everything i do.

Megan

I am currently in my second year at Utah State University as a music education major. I love everything about it, besides the unaffordable out-of-state tuition. I have been amazed by the indicidual attention I have received here- like all of my professors care about each student- we are not just numbers here! USU is truly equipping me with both the skills and confidence I need to be a valuable music educator. Being an Aggie (from "agriculture student", the origianal purpose of the university), has made me so much more conscious of the health of both the environment and my body. The size and quality of the art programs give everyone a chance to grow and rise to the top, unlike many other universities in which people are very easily lost in the flow. I am almost ready for the real world of music education now! Utah State University gives me the tools and encouraging environment needed to allow me to become more well-rounded and grow to my full potential.

Kevin

I have gotten knowledge that I could not learn in the field of working. It has been valuable to attend because the cost of this school is a bargin in itself and is one of the best in the country.

Amanda

Going into college, I knew I would continue my Spanish studies. I had come to love the language; its vibrant expressions and its flowing words appealed to me. I entered Utah State University as a sophomore (having earned as many college credits as I could in high school) in the Spanish Major program. A term came and went and although I still loved the language, I felt unsatisfied. After much contemplating, hair pulling, and walks in the rain, I realized that it was not enough. Learning Spanish was not enough! I had come to love the language, the culture, andthe people and I wanted to do more. I wanted to be able to help others and do something with my new skill. I am now double majoring in Spanish and Social Work . The rest of my college career will be busy and hectic, but I am excited. Not only will I be able to communicate with those around me, but I will be able to help those around me. I will be able to talk to others about their experiences and share mine. I will be able to help someone in need. What else could I possibly hope to achieve?

Caitlin

Utah State University has left me with an unforgettable experience. It all started with its location. Being away from home, I've gotten the experience of living on my own and have had to learn the importance and difficulties that come with independence. Having to manage my money and time without the guidance of my parents has been hard, but I'm starting to get the hang of it. There are so many people in Logan and I've met so many new people. Together we have participated in Utah State traditions like eating Aggie icecream, becoming a True Aggie, and sledding down Old Main hill. My educational experience is nothing like I have ever encountered. My classes are very large but my professors always find time to help their students. With each passing year, I learn more that will help guide me to pursuing a career in elementary education. This college experience has been unforgettable and I would regret any decision not to go to Utah State University.

I have learned so much through these years while I was attending State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri. I had many great experiences which I have never thought I could learn in college. Through college, I learned how to read and write effectively. I learned how to stand up in front of a crowd and speak my own opinions. I learned how to participate in all my classes' discussions because it helped me to understand the topics in a better way. I studied different subject areas that I found really helpful for my further education. Those knowledges which seemed easy to obtain in early high school year work differently in college. Colleges prepare students for future education. It helps students to move a step forward to their professional careers. I valued college years so much because what I knew before attenting college cannot compare to what I have learned in those college years. I am more confident after three semesters in community college, and I am ready for the journey to my dream university.

Nicole

The better question is, "what haven't I gotten out of my college experience." At the end of August, I stuffed my car full of all my belongings and made the drive to start a whole new adventure at Utah State. Incredibly, every day still is an adventure! The flexibility of college opens up so many areas of learning that extends beyond the classroom. This type of learning is irreplaceable. I have begun to take what I learn in class and apply it to almost everything I can. It seeps into my conversations. It fills my mind while I'm walking places. It pretty much dominates my life, in an amazingly good way! Not only is the learning aspect great, but the more little pieces of knowledge are introduced to me, the more grateful I am for the world, people, and all oppurtunities that are put in my way. Nothing can be more valuable than all this that I receieved just by being a studious college student.

Ann

I have gotten much out of my college experience. I have been able to get to know various people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, I have had numerous experiences that allowed me to take my education out of the classroom and apply it to corporate America. It has been valuable to attend college as I would never have known the world outside of my home town and my Navy experiences. The world is a thrilling and exciting place and I believe a more hospitable and caring environment when understood better.

Mikey

I have learned that the best way for me to contribute to this world, and for my children to do the same is to gather as much formal education as possible.

Kelsey

I have learned a variety of very useful and important skills. I have not only broadened my knowledge about various subjects by having the opportunity to take many different classes, but I have also had the opportunity to take on more responsibility. Living on my own and paying for the majority of my schooling by myself has taught me so many life skills. Some of them include budgeting, balancing needs and wants, better people skills, and planning out each day in order to accomplish the necessary daily tasks. At the beginning of my college career I was unsure of my future. With my freedom to take a highly diversified schedule I have now found what will be my life's work. I now have a passion for learning because I am working towards a specific career goal. I also love to learn about other subjects to increase my knowledge base.

Paige

I have gotten a great education and have been able to explore different options for my future. The strong sense of school pride has been a good opportunity for me to get into different school organizations. The helpful and supportive staff has been helpful in keeping my stress levels down. Any questions I have had about financial issues or my classes have been answer quickly and kindly. The campus is large enough that you have people and places to meet but small enough that you aren't lost in a sea of students. I have grown as a student and a citizen through my experience here at Utah State.

Latalia

I have gotten a lot out of my college experience. Going to school at a two year college kept me grounded. I was near home, it helped me save money for the future, and it was easier on me and the ones that is dear to me. It also showed me that I am ready to be more dependent on myself and can go away to become a more successful me. Also, it has been valuable to attend school in many ways. I was welcomed with opened arms. If I ever had any type of problems, no matter if it was school related or personal, there was always someone for me to talk to. I felt at home here and it helped me build a better me for my future.

jasmine

During my college experience I have got a more fuel for knowledge. Im the the type of person who catches on very quickly, I am a quick learner so with that being said when it comes to me taking different subjects on Ineed a little more of a challenge because it will become to be too easy for me. my major in college is hospitality management but i attended a culinary arts school to get my certification for that because i love to cook. in that school i learned so much. I have the status of a level three chef thanks to this school. I have a lot of atience and not just for cooking but in general. The aspects of cooking comes very natural to me. I love to learn even if i already know how to do something i know that someone somewhere else in this world knows how to do that exact samething in a quicker way or a simplier way or maybe knows how to do it using a different technique. This experience has been very valuable to me because it sharpened my skills. I can work in any 5- star restaurant.

Audrey

Attending college has given me such a feeling of accomplishment and ambition for the future. I feel much more capable in my abilities and the options that are available for me. I also know that I have a strong support system behind me, with helpful and reliable staff, as well as professional career teachers. I fell that I am growing as a more rounded and active person in my community by attending this college and pursuing my own dreams. This experience has been so valuable in my life, which is why I am so eager to continue to attend regardless of the stress and difficulties I face. Not only will this education help me grow as a person, but I will be able to help others as I grow. I hope to use the skills I have learned towards something positive for everyone I effect during my life.

Trevor

I'm earning a degree that will help me support my family.

tavin

I love college. I love being challenged both in the classroom and in life. While I have been at Utah State, I have been able to find out who I really am. I have figured out what is important to me and what I choose not to have time for. I am really lucky have the roommates that I do now, and we have become good friends. Because I am attending this particular university, I have had career opportunites fall over themselves for my attention. I have met and learned from experienced and respected mentors who really care about me, and not just creating a new prodigy. The decision I made to come here has proven to be one of the best I have ever made.

Kyrralynne

Going to college can't be just about getting a degree or getting credit, it has to be about getting an education and learning something useful or it will be a waste of everyone's time and money. I started out with college thinking, "Oh I'll get a degree so that maybe I'll be able to make more money someday." After putting so much effort into my classes, though, I decided that I wasn't going to make it through to the end if I had that attittude. So, I decided that I would apply the things that I learned in class to parts of my life and that has made all the difference. Not only do I do my best with my schoolwork, but I do my best in my life. College has given me a strong foundation for my future career and family life.

LaMario

I have learned that going back to school is not only fun but educational as well.

Amanda

My college experience has led me to have a lot of great memories. I have not only advanced mentally but physically and socially in life. I have made life-long friendships that I would have never made if I didn't move to college. I also feel like I have grown up tons and learned skills that are necessary to my entire life. I have learned how to do basic necessities such as cook, clean, and grocery shop. I have learned that by making friends with several people, even professors, I have made a large network of people that can help me find a job once I graduate. I have learned what it means to work hard. I can't learn everything I need to learn just by going to lectures. I have to open the textbook and use extra resources to learn all that I need to learn on the subjest. I guess the most valuable thing that I have learned here at college is that life takes hard work. The things that I work the hardest for are what bring me happiness and success.

Brian

USU has given me a good general education. The introductory classes have been interesting and have helped me be more aware of what is in the world. I have gained a solid education in mechanical engineering. Beyond the classes, I have been able to work with a professor doing experiments on a pnuematic system in his lab. I have also had a "college experience". I made some new friends and participated in a lot of activites I probably wouldn't have if I wasn't in a college environment. I lived on and off campus, and have learned to be independent and take care of myself. It also helped showed me what I like and dislike, and helped me learn how to deal with ideas that I disagree with.

Education

Shalae

My first year at Utah State University allowed me to open my eyes and enlarge my understanding to the world around me. I was not the center of the universe. New ideas and possibilities were introduced in ways that gave me a taste of what education could offer yet it did not fill me. I yearned for more. Although I changed to a different university for my Associate's Degree, I returned to USU for the completion of my Backelor's Degree. My college experience was not simply about learning from the pages of a book. The time devoted to my education has broadened my perspective and allowed me to critically think about solutions to problems I run into in my work place. It taught me to focus on graduation as a goal and how to achieve that goal by taking little steps of one class at a time. My initial college experiences paved the way for me to engage in additional opportunities including the pursuit of my Master's Degree and now a Doctoral Degree. It's given me hope for my future. My education is something nobody can take away from me. It's value is immeasurable.

Jessie

My college experience has been very diverse, as was my elementary and high school experiences. I have attended 3 colleges, a private college, a community college, and now a public university. I have gotten something interesting and life changing out of each of these experiences. My first college was the private college, I lived in the dorms and enjoyed my first experience away from home. This is where I learned to be on my own, to get organized, and try to stay focused without anybody telling me to. At my second college, the community college, I learned to juggle working and going to school. I received my AA degress from this school and experienced my first joy at accomplishing something that I worked hard for. Now I am attending my third college, at a public university. I just started this past week, and I am doing my entire bachelor's degree online, so far I am learning a lot about computers, and I hope to gain some valuable life lessons as I continue my education.

Justin

College is an amazing time to discover yourself and who you ant to associate with. I have discovered who I am but more importantly how much I can accomplish. If I had never attended college I would never have realized how close to reality it can be for me to go to Yale Law School.

Katherine

In addition to gaining knowledge and practical experience, Utah State has allowed me to discover who I am, what my values are and where I want to go in life. Through the programs I was involved in, the interaction with students and professors I gained a greater appreciation for the diversity which exists on campus. While at Utah State I built up my resume. I also made lifelong friends. I found opportunities to volunteer and serve the community. I enjoyed sporting events. I was a part of engaging discussions about politics, values, science, music, and many other intellectual topics. Because Utah State is a mid-sized campus I was not only impacted by the University, but I was also able to make an impact on my university. I was able to meet with deans, the provost and even the president of the university to discuss the Gender Studies program. This year they have opened a new women's center focused on strengthening Gender Studies. I feel that Utah State was the best place I could go to school and have decided to stay here for graduate school.

John

College, even in the one year i have attended, has changed me greatly. I used to joke around during school, never taking anything seriously and coasting of my good fortune and brains. In college, the same strategy almost helped me to fail my first semester. I am more responsible, organized, and a more extroverted individual. If not for college, I would have gone straight into the military, following my fathers footsteps. I do plan on joining the Marine Corps, but after i have recieved an education. There really isn't much of a point in life if you ar not learning anything.

Cody

College is valuable life experience. It has helped me to gain a broader perspective of the real world, a sense of commitment to be the best in which I am able, an appreciation for the world in which I live, and of the numerous career opportunities presented to myself. My experience at Utah State University has helped to me to realize the many lifestyles and cultures that identify and encompass my fellow men. I know there is more to humanity than the small community in which I have grown up and live. I strive to perform at the best level in which I am capable of. I have no desire to be second rate. Small planning, tainted visions, colorless dreams, and dwarfed goals are no longer a part of who I am. College has helped me to see the abounding career opportunities discovered in my sights. In my opinion, a greater era has never been among men for the progression of wisdom and knowledge available to all. There is truth to the old adage ?if there is a will, there is a way?. I will never regret my time spent at college.

Whitney

At my college experience, I have made many lifetime friends that I can always count on while at school. I have obtained an educatin by directly being involved in my major, Elementary Education. I spend many hours on the laboratory school that is right on campus. I think that it is important to be involved with your school. At Utah State University, there is always an activity occuring and most of the time more than one, so you have to decide what you want to attend or be a part of. Utah State has been valuable to me because there is a huge diversity at our school. Many international studetns from al over the world, attend my school. I think that this is very valuable because the United States is becoming more and more diverse every day. I think that it is important to be around diversity so you know how to act throughout the U.S. Utah State is valuable because there is always activites to get you involved and involved with different cultures. It is important to know about different cultures and how they all have similar characteristics that make everyone want to do them.

Melissa

I firmly believe that knowledge is something that no one can take from us--and this is crucial in world where everyday we are stripped of our liberties. I am driven to be a life long learner always bettering myself and in hopes using that knowledge to aid those around me. This is what the college experience has provided. In other words, through college, I have gained hands on experience from those that are more knowledgable and also have the desire to educate and share their passion with others. And that passion is seen everyday through the educators at USU. It has made me who I am today, and has led me to my discovery of how to relate to those around me through empathetic and interpersonal relationships. Which has been beneficial in that of my career as an educator. Volunteering in that environment and seeing the driven persuance of those around me, has also led me to my current chosen career as a speech pathologist.

Cristina

I have learned responsibility. I only need to answer to myself. No one else has to check on me. That is the most important thing I am taking away from higher education because it will follow me throughout my life. In my career, my family, and just my life in general, I will need to be able to take care of myself. I need to be able to motivate myself. College allows students to learn this. Professors don't breathe down your back, parents are not in the picture, and your friends don't really care. There is no one to make you do your homework and study but you. You will either fail or learn to motivate yourself. I am very grateful that I have learned this and will be able to use it throughout my life.

Brandy

I hope to get a degree out of it and for me it is important that I finish what I started.
