The Hokie stone buildings give off both a retro and a classy look. But the most important part is that this stone is so strong. Impresses visitors. The Athletic facilities are amazing, always fun to watch the game in person. The campus is big but everything is within walking distance. Dorms and dining halls are top rated in the nation.
I believe it is a great university with a great environment and area for students. It also has great food and many ways to get help and achieve your goals. The party life can be very distracting and the dorms are not the best depending on where you stay. However, it is a well-rounded university with many options available for everyone while attending.
Honestly speaking, my experience at Virginia Tech has been terrible. I constantly feel isolated even amongst the people around me. My experience of people is that they are closed off. This doesn't mean anti-social, I’m talking about people who will speak with no one except their friends. I was in a dorm freshman year with an LLC where people only ever spoke to people within their LLC. I feel like if you aren’t there at the very beginning, people will not acknowledge your existence. On top of that, people can be very rude. If you are walking on a sidewalk and you are near the road and the people walking opposite of you are close to bumping into you, they won’t move out of the way. They will expect you to move out of the way. I’ve also faced many microaggressions on campus from largely white people. Education wise, engineers get everything. As a liberal arts major, we are grossly underfunded and have to basically claw our way into getting decent programs and jobs, whereas engineers leave here with 6 figure jobs from the get-go. On top of that it isn’t really that LGTBQ+ friendly. My first day there, a pride flag on a church was replaced with a confederate flag. I feel like I’m at my wits end and want to transfer but I’m not sure where to go since my major, Professional and Technical Writing, is so niche. These are my honest feelings about Virginia Polytechnic Institute as a college.
Virginia Tech is great overall. The area surrounding it is unlike anything you've seen before, and each season is equally pretty compared to the last. The people at VT are always there for you and willing to make sure you succeed no matter what, they don't say "This is Home" for nothing here. I'd be impressed if you got bored there since there is normally always something to do, even during finals season, if you can believe it, because Student Services will always make sure the student body is happy whenever possible. If you have an interest in any specific topic, you can bet there is a club for it there, and if there isn't, then you can easily make one if you get some more people together. No matter what you do, you'll always be able to find people who look out for you, that you have a good time with, and who will eventually become your family, after all, This is Home.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is 70%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
Remember that the summer before you go off to college could very well be the last summer you get to have with those friends. Cherish it, and remember it for the rest of your life. As you go on to college, there are plenty of new people to meet and new things to try. Don't be afraid to step out on a limb and try something! You might like it! Take your time and try not to let the hustle and bustle of getting ready for college steal that last bit of childhood you have left. In college you will have plenty of fun, and freedom that most students didn't have while in high school. It can be overwhelming to be allowed to to whatever you want whenever you want, but take this new freedom with responsibility. Many students have let this freedom go to their head and ended up failing out of college because they didn't balance their schoolwork with their social life. It will take some getting used to, don't let it bother you too much! Take it one step at a time, and have a blast!
Accomidating to everyone, no matter what social or economical differences that they may have.
I'd say football is definitely one of the best aspects of being a VT student, but there are academic and social opportunities as well that can't be found anywhere else. Virginia Tech may be too large for some people to handle, but for me it's just right! Nowadays, when I tell people I go to VT, it's inevitable to hear a comment about April 16th. That's no fun, but I wouldn't trade my experiences here for anything. When on campus, I spend most of my time either walking to or sitting in class. Occasionally I hang in the library between classes to study. It's most definitely a college town! If you can't hang in one, I wouldn't recommend Blacksburg. The school pride is absolutely of epic proportions!
For the most part, if you put in the effort your professors will know your name. My classes are mainly larger (200-300 students), so the professors don't have as much interaction with the students, but in my smaller classes, my professors definitely know my name and everyone else's too! The most unique class I've ever taken was probable Philosophy: Existetialism, War, and Terrorism. It was a good one!
The sense of community is unique about Virginia Tech. The beautiful campus allows for a great place to become involved with the community around us.
I'd say greek life and intramural sports are very popular at VT. I played intramural co-ed soccer for a few years, and it was awesome! In most dorm halls, the doors are left open. People are very friendly and sociable here.
Good stereotype: Down to earth, good students but also known to skip class, not do homework, SPIRITED, All-American kid
that one is.
My school experiences Antarctica weather. It gets below freezing in the winters with high wind chills. Luckily Virginia Tech buildings are close by to each other that it is still bearable to go to class.
Virginia Tech is one of the best universities in the nation and I am so glad that I go to school here!
The best thing about my school is the school spirit. Everyone including myslef who goes to that school is proud to say they go there or in my case graduated from there; and even everything that has happened there students and alumni are still proud to wear the colors (maroon and orange) and proud to say that they are Hokies.
To be honest, I was slightly scared to go to college because I was not sure how well I would be able to interact and socialize with the others around me. The truth is, Virginia Tech is a great place to be and I have more friends than I had ever imagined. We form study groups on the week nights to study and work on upcoming classes, but we also have plenty of time to do all of the other activities on campus. I play soccer there and I still find time to do everything else. You really should go!
Someone that is strongly interested in math, science, or technology should consider coming here. We have a great engineering program that teaches you a lot and their are many opportunities to get paid internsips. However, they will tell you that your classes will be hard and they will be throughout the entire time that you are here. You wont be able to go out as much as your other friends that may be in different majors but you must remember the harder you work now the more it will pay off in the future.
If you're looking for city-life
Virginia Tech is not only a school of great academics and flourishing research, but also a place filled with the most school spirit ever. Home of the Hokie Bird, in the heart of Blacksburg, VA, each and everyday walking around campus one can see countless people doting the ?Chicago maroon and burnt orange? colors. From ?Enter the Sandman? jumping at football games, to the gobbling of the Hokie, this immeasurable amount of spirit held by students, faculty, alumni, families and many more shows the true love for this university and how great of a place Virginia Tech is.
The virginia tech comuntity is really friendly its easy to make friends and connect with people.
There are a lot of students so sometimes it is hard to make good friends because you see so many people every day. You have to go out of your way to meet people.
One of my favorite things about this school is that it is big enough that there is no stereotype. If you want Greek life, there are fraternities and sororities abound. But that by no means implies that Greek life is the only life, as it is at some other schools. If you are more interested in intramural sports or other interest groups we have a club or team to satisfy you. People from a multitude of different backgrounds, with as many interests as you can name come to Virginia Tech because, no matter what, they fit in.
Delta Sigma Pi loses to the overpowering and amazingly cool dairy club(sarcasm).
A lot of people are hesitant about attending Tech because of its size; it intimidates them; they feel as though they’ll be lost in the crowd. Tech’s size can’t be disputed. It is a big school. However, that works to its advantage. Yes, some of the core/lower level classes are large. But once you get into major-specific courses or upper level courses, the classroom size becomes smaller and the teaching becomes student-specific. For example: the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (CLAHS). Within the college, each major forms around the student’s needs because—though Virginia Tech as a university is large—each major is small and tight-knit. The students have wonderful opportunities to work with Professors on research outside or inside the classroom. In this way, students get the feel of a small college within the setting of a large university—that’s Tech’s biggest advantage.

All students must apply yearly for financial aid. This process starts with the FAFSA. Though financial aid deadlines vary by school, it is a good idea to apply as soon as possible. For the upcoming school year, you can apply as early as October 1 for the FAFSA. Additional school aid will be dependent on the FAFSA results.
64% of students attending Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University receive some sort of financial aid. 16% were awarded federal grants. While 39% received federal loans. Many students do also need to apply for additional private student loans.
