Wabash College Top Questions

What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Stephen

That they are antisocial because this is an all male institution.

Wally

Being an all-male school, there are all the stereotypes from outsiders that one might assume. Students who decide to come to Wabash often have to endure jokes from high school friends which question their sexuality, or at least their sanity. The other common stereotypes are that the students are all wealthy or drink too much.

Andy

From what I've experienced, some people see us as preps and yet others think we're slobs. A few outsiders will think us strange because we're all-male. Another common perception is that we're all rich or the sons of parents with money.

Elliott

The stereotypes that are common are that Wabash and its culture produces men who are "brutish cavemen" and "sexists." But a more positive one is that we have a very good reputation for being a quality academic school.

Jacob

That they are beer guzzling cavemen with no manners.

Chris

Some of the stereotypes about Wabash and Wabash men lie largely in the fact that Wabash is a school for "meat-head sexists" as Wabash is one of a hand full of all male colleges.

Pat

Wabash students are all gay. There are never any women on campus. All Wabash students are from Indiana. A liberal arts education is pointless because you don't specialize in a specific field or industry of work. It is hard to get a job out of Wabash because of the fact that you don't specialize. Wabash students drink a lot.

Blaine

Drunk, sexist, smart guys.

Alex

The bad:male chauvinist pigs; extremely conservative; predatory towards women. The good: gentlemen; broadly educated/well rounded; hard workers.

Will

1) We're womanizing Chauvinists 2) We're arrogant frat boys 3) We're heavy-drinking, heavy-hazing guys 4) We study hard Sunday-Thursday and party harder Friday & Saturday 5) We're so rooted in Wabash that we're 20 or 30 years behind acceptable society 6) We believe that tough love makes a man and that the outer world is a society of men raised by women.

Jacque

Snobby, Smart, Gay, Rich, Elitist, tight-knit, fratty

Blake

That we have a great amount of money and that we are snobs towards others in the community.

Nate

Alot of people hear that we are all male, and think we are a bunch of "gays". Not True! We are a very diverse student body with all walks of life represented on campus. Our Fraternity system is not the typical "Animal House" "Frat Boy" ideal. We are Men who act responsibly, lead effictively, live humanely, and think critically. Alot of people also think since we are all male, we are like a bunch of cavemen. Again, Not True! We are caring gentlemen who are aware and compassionate to those around us. We are a Wabash Family.
