Washington State University Top Questions

What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Jonathan

WSU is still seen as a school from the past, and by past I mean when it was rated as one of the top 25 party schools in the nation. This really is not the case any more. I understand that at any University there will be a portion of students there for social activities more than scholastic, but WSU is no more extreme in this case than any other. WSU is known for having exceptional Vet students and Engineering students, and a very close community of students. I still see people I met during my freshmen orientation on a regular basis all over campus and town, regardless of what their major is and where they live in Pullman. I think the stereotype of students from the outside is very different from the inside. I hope this review helps people choose to go here, or stay away from WSU based legitimate reasons and not their perception of the party scene here.

I think that a lot of people assume that all we do is drink and party and that we aren't an actual school. I've heard people say that the only reason we're at WSU is because we didn't get into UW. I don't know if this is a stereotype or a fact, but we have the most school spirit in pride of any college I've ever visited.

Kelsey

Washington state it viewed as a party school where people party very frequently and in large quantities. The students are viewed as kids who are not very into their education and are here to have a good time and party.

The biggest stereotype that plauges our school and it's students would be that we are solely a drinking school. Now I'm not going to say that we don't drink, because of course we do, but people seem to overlook our academics and how strong of a school we are in that respect.

Katrina

Party school, hicks and cowboys, drink a lot

Dan

It is a misconception that WSU students are all "hicks" or come from rural backgrounds, and are just simply not smart enough to be accepted into a bigger school such as the University of Washington. We have been referred to as a big party school in the past, and this is still a stereotype at WSU.

Candice

Washington State is known for being a party school. It really is a party school and its great if you are in to that. People look for excuses to drink. For example, its a thursday night and the Cougs played an away game against UNC in the Sweet Sixteen...we lost....we drink. Or, school gets cancelled because of weather, so you head down to the store around 11 a.m. and you will see hundreds of studetns stocking up on Busch beer, hard liquor, and Carlo Rossi. In pullman, we are all family and there isnt much to do so we look forward to popping open those beers and drinking

Lance

First and most obviously, that we drink a lot.

Cassandra

One is that Washington State Students are all alcoholics and party constantly. I have also been told that every student is rude and has no respect for other people. I have also been told that nobody goes to WSU to get an education, they just go to party.

Krista

It's a big party school, Pullman is in the middle on nowhere, It's an agriculture school

Justin

That we like to party hard and we are trashy fans.

Katie

We party hard and are school is not as cool as UW...both very very untrue.

annette

Some stereotypes about WSU students is that they consume massive amounts of alcohol all the time

Gene

That we're a party school, that it's easy to get in, and that the students here aren't very smart.

Jeff

People usually have some bad stereotypes about WSU. They see us as "farmers" that drink everyday. The girls are thought to be full of STDs and guys known for date rape. However, the good about us is that there is tons of pride here.

Daniel

Some of the stereotypes about WSU are, students that could not get in to the University of Washington come here as second choice, and there is nothing to do here but get annihilated.

Brittany

The major stereotype about WSU and the students is that we party too much. All I hear from people is that the WSU campus is nothing but a party place and none of the students actually take their schooling seriously, they just want to get drunk and party all day and night.

Dylan

Some stereotypes about WSU & its students are that we're all a bunch of rebellious, apathetic, drunk partyers who don't care about anything that isn't about to happen.
