What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Visit the campus during a school day to see what activities are going on. Meet the professors or sit in on classes to get a feel for the culture of the college. Learn about financial aid early so you know what your options are and how to apply for the aid you need. Be as involved as possible in extra cirricular activities and in the community surrounding the college. Rest and relaxation are as important to your academic success as studying. Find a healthy balance of study and play.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

All classes were assigned by the Program I was enrolled in, so no opportunity to select my own schedule. And the course/clinical assignments were given to us at the last minute or were changed at the last minute, making it difficult to plan ahead for work scheduling.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

It was a rigous program. The professors are working in their field of expertise in addition to teaching at Wayne Steate Univeristy. The Nursing program at Wayne is well known and respected by local hospitals and health care facilities.

Let your son/daughter live on campus, and dont let money be an issue. Check out the school before you accept to go to it.

make sure you do the research for whatever school you plan on attending before you apply there. Also be sure that after you do apply to a school and get accepted that you keep in touch with the financial aid department and the admissions department.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell students and paretns to look at each college choice carefully. They should pick a college that is affordable. they should pick a college that has the major the student wants to have. Also it should be easy to go to the college and there is no problem in living arrangement. Students can make the most of the college experience by being responsable but also having fun at the same time. They shouldn't be afraid to meet new people or take classes on new subjects. They should take every chance they get to something exciting but safe.

What's unique about your campus?

I like the diversity at my school. A lot of different come to this school from all over the world. You get to meet so many different types of people and become friends with them.

I would tell them to think very hard about your career desicion. School is like a business that you are investing in. Take your time and make sure that it is the right instituion for you. You don't want to start one major and decide it isn't the one for you and have to start all over again. Get you a great group of friends who will push and and hold you up when you fell the need to fall. If you are allowed the funds to live on campus try it out. You will have more access to srudy facilties, meals plans, and people in your same situation. Educate yourself on the colleges that you have choosen to apply to before you rush in on a desicion. College can either make or break your future, but the choice is up to you. You write you own destiny.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thin g about my school is that you meet so many great people. Having an effecient number of friends who share the same goals as you is very refreshing. There are many places available to study and chat amongst one another. I never stayed on campus but i heard that it is an experience within itself. The eatery is a place to take a break from class and just breathe and take in what the day has in store for you. The

Some advise to parents/students on finding the right college for undergraaduate schooling is to just go with what you think you will fit in best then transfer to the school of your choice. I say this because if you feel you fit into a school environment then you will accomplish more than if you feel awkward or out of place, that way you can get all of your GenEd classes out of the way and maintain a high GPA. that way you will be able to transfer to most other colleges. And as for making the most out of your college experence just be who you are and go with it. There are countless groups and organizations that have the same outlook on life as you do.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school is the fact the professors do not care about the students in their classes they are just worried about getting them in and out. A close second to the professors not caring is the problem with the homeless people. They are constantly asking for spare change and it is hard to say no to them but I have to eat also, college is not cheap.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

First, figure out what kind of program you want to enter, pre-med, english, enginering, ect. Second, decided if you are going to play sports at this school and wither or not you will be able to play on the team. Third, what size of a school do you want to go to and what kind of setting do you want (urban vs. country) and also how far away are you willing to go away from home for school? Fourth, what are the cost of attending this school and is it affordable for you.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The university is in detorit, so there can be crime in the surronding areas, although the campus is safe and police can get to any where on campus in about 30 seconds. There are quite a few homless people that many of the students here could recognize and give a good description of because there a quite a few homless people that stick around the campus. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

There's a large variety of schools around the nation , meaning there's a near perfect school for almost every type of person. When students are choosing what college is right for them, they must consider what school offers their major , has a strong focus on academics, meets location standards, and supports extracurricular activity. Students also need to decide what type of campus is right for them. University campuses range from rural to urban communities and from small to large student bodies. When choosing the best college, students should decide whether they'd like to be involved in a larger community or a smaller one. Parent's should focus on sending their child to a school that's both affordable for them and their child. College can be expensive, so both the student and parent need to be ready and have a balanced budget in order to plan for college. In order to make the most of the college experience, students need to be open-minded and goal-orientated, and display a willingness to learn. Students who engage in extracurriculur activity have higher rates of succeeding at the college of their choice.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

People who are looking to spend their college years partying definitely should not attend this school. If a student isn't motivated to do their best work, they shouldn't attend this university

What kind of person should attend this school?

People who are career-focused and goal-oriented should attend this college. Students who like to engage in organizations should also attend this school because there are more than 200 organizations to choose one, and if thats not enough, the college helps you start a new one! Hardworking and motivated students would be successful at this university.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

My advice to future college students would be to apply to as many colleges as possible. Make sure to look at the programs offered at each college, and make the right descision based on personal interest in a field. I would visit all of the colleges and make sure I can picture myself living there, surrounding myself with only positive people, because after all you will be there for a whole 4 or more years for undergrad. Being comfortable around a new enviroment is the most important part of beginning a college career, because otherwise you won't make the most of the experience you can get. I would make sure the college fits my kind of interests and particularly offer the program which I want to get into. Making most of your college experience is based on the descions you first decide to make for yourself, like picking the right college, this will be the most important move. If you are not happy with this choice, you will be miserable every day. To be happy and successful in college, you must choose the univeristy that makes you feel the most comfortable and has interests that you like!!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about Wayne State is the lack of interest and help academic advisors provide students. I am not sure why most of the academic advisors are the way they are, maybe because they hate their job? Of all the academic advisors I have spoken to, I can't say that I was advised the right way.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Finding the right college begins with deciding what's important to you. For me, it was proximity of the school to where I wanted to be, which was in the Metro-Detroit area; availability of the program I was interested in; and cost of tuition. Other important factors might be housing, extra-curricular activities, and financial aid. When you decide what's important, you can then find what school has the most of the qualities you're looking for and is the best fit. To make the most of your college experience, get involved! Every year I've tried something new, a program, a group, whatever, and I haven't regretted it. I've made friends and had many interesting experiences. From choir, to alternative spring break, from a student society for African students to the school newspaper, I've done so many cool things that have made my time more worthwhile. I don't think my college experience would be so great if I had done nothing but gone to class.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

I say that it's in Detroit -- a city with so many positive things to do . Also with all the diversity, you never have to feel like an outsider, no matter who you are.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The financial aid process is the biggest complaint at my school. Students often have problems signing up for classes or housing because of slow disbursements. I work in my school's call center to raise money and one alumnus even told me that she liked Wayne State and the education she got there, but the financial aid process was so bad compared to other schools that she didn't want to donate any money to the school.
