TIFFANY - 11/10/2020

I had the worse experience at this school and this was before I even attended classes. The financial aid office is the pits! They refused to sign a form I need in order to receive finical aid and kept insisting my undergrad school (which I graduated from and no longer attend) had to fill it out. I went back and forth with them FOR A YEAR until I finally said forget it. Then they decided to fill out the school portion of the required form. The aid would have covered the semester I attended but since they played back and forth it wasn't covered under what I eventually received. I couldn't afford the tuition and they put me in collections. This experience has made me regret my decision to ever go here and I would not recommend this university at all.

Kyra - 09/01/2020

Overall it's not a bad school. But I strongly advice staying on top of your financial aid. Getting "Wayne Stated" is a common issue. It's when your financial aid has come through and is usually the fault of someone at the Welcome Center. ALWAYS check your financial aid.

I think that Wayne State University is a great college to go to. The student body is more diverse than your average predominantly white institution. The lectures are usually not that big and neither are the labs and/or discussion classes. Instructors, from my experience are usually an email or office hour away and they usually respond to your emails as early as the next morning;

I love it! I ALWAYS feel safe on campus, and if for some reason I don't, we have a program where I can call the campus police, who are actual sworn-in Detroit Police Officers and have them escort me to where I need to go on campus. Having a police escort, especially walking to the parking garages at night is a huge comfort. The atmosphere and camaraderie of the students in the Theatre Department is amazing. We all root for one another and work to build an ensemble state of mind. The professors are knowledgeable and helpful. That being said, I think that for a department within the College of Fine, Performing, and Communication Arts, the communication bit would be better in our department than throughout the rest of the colleges. That isn't the case. If I would've known some of the hurdles I would have to jump through to get my voice heard and to get honest treatment (in pertinence to grades and assignments), I may not have chosen Wayne State. While Wayne State offers many transfer incentives in the form of scholarships and discounted tuition, they don't have the best transfer program in place, especially in the Theatre Department. If you transfer with an associates and no theatre classes, it will be impossible for you to graduate within 2 more years because the classes are all offered at the same time and only during certain semesters, making it impossible to bulk up too much, or impossible to meet the minimum 12 credit hours if you already have all of your pre-reqs done. I also hate that you have to pay for parking. Overall, if I had to choose again, I still probably would've chosen Wayne State because of the friends I've made there. For the most part, the faculty have been helpful and kind, and my peers have been amazing. For that reason, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Wayne State definitely has some flaws, but what school doesn't?

Wayne State University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Wayne State University?

    The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Wayne State University is 81%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

    Every day that you walk through life as if you can hit rewind at any moment, realize that the rewind button you are counting on to be there is being phased out as we speak. That's right, everything you're doing is going on film, and that film is going to be your life. Make each day worthy of being recorded and watched by you one last time with no editing. Whatever happened in the past all happened for a reason. The important thing is to make those experiences, positive or negative, a strictly positive influence on what you do now. And, even more important, don't just know what you need to be doing, do it! Start acting on what you have learned from your life. I was once a high school student with a GPA below 1.5 or something tragically close. That ended with my getting a GED after a few years of not attending school whatsoever. And it had nothing to do with my learning abilities. But once I realized what I wanted to do with my life, I was able to start college with a whole new attitude and believe me, it?s working!

    There are many places to get your work done here at WSU. There is the Undergraduate Library, known as the UGL, that is open 24/7. There are multiple floors of which to study on. There is also your dorm building if you are staying on campus. Each floor has 3 lounges in which you can study. You can also, if you wish, study in your room. We have a Starbucks, which is also part of Einstein Bagels, where many people go to grab a cup of Joe and study. The quietest place of them all is the Purdy-Kresky Library. It is so because nobody really goes in it. It is a very empty place, but yet the best place to go for a quiet area. I tend to study in the lounges of my dorm floor.
