Wesley college is an okay school. The student to teacher ratio is awesome. There are not many things to do on campus but when there is, some of the events are fun and interesting. The cafeteria lunch is pretty good but not all that healthy and there are limited options.

Mariah

Academically Wesley College is a great school but in terms of socially, it definitely lacks. The only sport that really matters is the football team. The food is only good when there is an open house or an event that could potentially bring prospective students or people to donate money.

Kimberly

Wesley College does not have an extremely diverse student population. About 80{6f65e1278338a62264eed73e2adc5af8e2841420db12ceb4f80b8db22f3260ec} of the student population is African-American with the remaining 20{6f65e1278338a62264eed73e2adc5af8e2841420db12ceb4f80b8db22f3260ec} being white, Hispanic, or another minority. The African-American students that go here are pretty loud and, to be quite frank, pretty ghetto. I'm not sure exactly how selective Wesley College is at selecting its future students, but it should be much more selective than it is right now. I keep hearing black students claim that Wesley College "feels just like high school", and that couldn't be more wrong. Wesley College shouldn't "feel just like high school" because it is college. The high school graduates that apply to Wesley College should be of the highest caliber. They should not smoke any sort of illegal substance (many students at this college smoke weed, and you can still smell it on their breath and on their clothes), spit on the ground (several male students, more specifically the African-American students, spit on the ground outdoors, and it's disgusting), or shout just because they can. Wesley College should have a much stricter list of requirements for the people applying to go there.

The school has a great psychology department. It has a good learning environment. The sports teams do very well. It is a place that has seen its fair share of tragedies, but they bring the students and staff together. It is expensive, which is why I really need this scholarship. I would like to graduate from Wesley but if I do not find the money I will not be able to.

Wesley College FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at Wesley College?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Wesley College is 60%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back to talk to myself as a high school senior, I'd tell myself to stay the way you are. Being that it's a lot of kids first time really being away from their parents, they might start to do things they wouldn't normally do. It can get out of control depending on how much self control you have. The best thing to do is to have a demanding and determined mindset and you will be fine. Stay true to yourself and you will not be disappointed leaving college. It should be one of the most exciting times of your life.

  12. What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before I came to this school, I wish i had known about the location in better detail. When I think of a private college, I think "gated/blocked". Delaware State University is gated. Wesley is in an opened area where houses are built all around the school. Some streets are not safe to walk on because there are drug dealers and prostitutes walking around. Of course we have campus security and police but any and everyone still walk on, through, and pass our campus which worries me alot. Being at Wesley felt like I was at my old high school.

  14. What are the academics like at your school?

My major is English-Writing Concentration. English has two others concentrations, Second Education and Literary Studies. For each major, there are options for teaching and the Education department is a popular major on campus, alongside Nursing and the Sciences. We are a liberal arts college but the sciences sort of outshine us. My favorite class I've had has to be Creative Writing with Dr. Maxson. It was a workshop where we shared poetry and fiction with other people in the class with feedback and I loved it. Class participation, at least in my major, can often be part of the grading scale. In Dr. Clack's classes, participation is key and in the Media Arts classes the same. Students aren't really competitive. There are some that are 'know it alls' and comment when they don't need to but for the most part if you have an idea shout it out. Alot of professors encourage office hours. I'm involved with three departments : English, Media Arts and Music. For English, I always go to Dr. Clack's office hours. Spending a few minutes with him will show that you care and up your grade. For Media Arts, Mr. Greto basically requires that you see him to edit your essays together and for the most part is close to all of his students. For Music, if I have a question or concern about my part in a song, I can always ask someone in the building.

  15. What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Smaller club events are better at Wesley in my opinion. Big events like Wishfest, Homecoming, the Block Party, and many of the Greek sponsored events are too big and get too wild. We have over 40 organizations on campus and each of them have their own meetings and events. It's better to go to SGA (Student Government Association) and see what clubs are available. The most popular groups on campus are Speak, the poetry club, BSU (Black Student Union), Safe Wesley, and IMPACT Ministry. For Greek Life, the biggest greeks are Alpha Phi Delta, Delta Phi Epsilon and Alpha Phi Omega. Sports teams are big too and often have their own houses and parties like Alpha Phi Delta. I'm involved in a few groups and I'm president of Campus of the Nerds which is very small but we have a close knit group. The dating scene at Wesley is varied. Since I'm hopeful, I always say you can find someone but it seems like Wesley guys are generally stereotypes of modern boys: selfish, cheating, noncommittal, rude, always out for one thing, or totally blind to anything going on in the world. The best thing I can tell anyone is to make friends (guys and girls) and just keep an open mind and open eyes. You might find someone worthwhile. I met all my first friends at events, because when I was a freshman I went to every event there was to go too. It worked. I met Sam, and then Cydnie, Tiana, Crystal, Emily and from there Leah, Anthony and Thomas. It got bigger and hanging out outside of my room worked with meeting people. My sophomore year we had a dedicated group in the hangout spot called The Den. I would go in the morning, hangout and eat breakfast, leave my stuff there for my classes, come back and someone would still be there. We made our biggest plans in the Den. We would head back to someones room and watch a movie, go out to the mall or dinner. It's something I really miss. I didn't party my freshmen year. Honestly, I had one beer the entire year and I didn't like it. But that changed my sophomore year, after some emotional and eye opening experiences. Leah, Jose, Brandon and I, would drink in his room. It wasn't until the middle of sophomore year that we even went out to parties. I would say back in those days, people would party every weekend. Now that I'm entering my senior year, I'd have to say it depends. Most people drink in someone else's room, instead of go out. And the houses for parties are more scattered than they were. The one place that almost always has a party is the APD house. It's changed and they don't have any alcohol, but if you can manage to get your own, you can still go to the APD house. The one of the few houses that lets anyone in. On Saturday night there are no activities, zilch. Either you leave campus, go to a party, or stay in your room, there is nothing scheduled for you to do. However, if you have friends, you can always hang out and have fun by yourself. There have been many nights where it was too cold or we had no money to go out, so we got some games, watched some movies and had fun. Off campus, there's the downtown area which is nice for walking. The Mall and the stores are up the street and there's plenty of places to shop. Obviously, its not the best area but people with cars can go to Christiana Mall, Newark De (which has an amazing college town) or Rehobeth Beach.

  16. What is your overall opinion of this school?

Wesley College has the advantage of being a small, private school with great professors. It allows you to get close with people who can help you, and later on, give you options for your future. At Wesley, you'll have so many opportunities to get close with your professors and it's something you have to do. Since the campus is so small, everyone knows each other and there is a close knit community. There are ample opportunities to get involved in clubs, organizations, greek life, community outreach programs. You'll never feel like you can't be heard. Obviously, Wesley has drawbacks. It is a bit too small and many of the departments share floors when it would benefit the students and professors to have their own space. The area around Wesley (Dover De) isn't very safe and often security doesn't do enough to ensure the safety of its students. The tuition is a little high and the freshmen dorms are a nightmare. The best thing about Wesley is the academics, networking and the people. I wouldn't have transferred from Wesley because I'm a very loyal person but the friends that I've made here are lifelong and so are the opportunities I've been given.
