West Shore Community College, located in Scottville, Michigan, provides excellent opportunities for new and returning students. The campus retains a "home-town" feel, where everyone is friendly and know of each other. Class sizes are small, which facilitates admirable interpersonal relations between the teachers, staff, and students. The various clubs, paired with a copius amount of course offerings, make this 2-year institution one of the best in the state of Michigan.

West shore community college is a in a suburban area. While there is no on-campus housing, most of the facilities available are open until 10pm. Off-campus is a moderately sized city that has a number of apartment options available within a 5 to 15 minute travel time. Recently, West shore removed their restaurant and replaced it with a bookstore style cafe. While the selection is small the food provided is fresh, and offer a nutritious meal when in a rush. For the more physically active West shore offers is a gym, swimming pool, a couple basketball courts, and ice rink. If you prefer a mental activity there is a tutoring center as well as a writing center available to any student for any subject and study rooms available to rent in the library. Lastly, if you prefer the more social aspects the campus life at West shore is overall welcoming. There are a number of clubs available to join at any time or create your own. Even if you do not want to join a club you can still meet people in popular campus hangout spots such as the "Cave" found in the campus center. Class size in West shore is relatively small. From personal experience, the largest class size I participated in was about 34 people and the smallest being 10; both offer an opportunity to meet and discuss with professors. Even if you do not want to join any clubs offered, the Student Senate often hosts fun campus events about twice a month such as: bingo, taco bar, and so much more. While the college is about a 5 minute drive from the downtown area, there are numerous restaurants and stores available at anytime of day. Lastly, but most importantly; how is the academics at West shore? While small, the college does not lack in academics. From professors that hold PhD's to open access to necessary academic resources, this college does everything in its power to encourage student success. Even as I write this review I am using a school loaned laptop to write this review amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Overall, this college is a great place for anyone. While small if offers a number of top quality resources to its students.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I wish I would have told myself as a high school senior to have fun, when picking my classes. For the first two years of college I only worried about my required classes and not classes that would just enrich my life. I took so many Anatomy and Chemistry classes my head was going to explode. And the last semester of my second year in college I was burned out! So in my third year I have decided to take classes for me, not just what is required of me. Taking classes this way may slow me down by a year, but then at least not only am I getting in the classes I need to get in, but I am also taking classes that I enjoy and don't feel so stressed to do perfect in. I would tell my high school self; "If you want to take a drawing class, take a drawing class", select your classes on not only want you need but also what you want.

West Shore is a very small community college, but it is located about a half mile away from my house, which is extremely convient. Though it is small, the four professors I have this semester are absolutly wonderful. I could not ask for better, and am excited to compare them to those from big universities.
