Western Kentucky University Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Tyler

This is hard for me to answer because I am transferring to WKU this year after obtaining two Associate Degrees from the Communiy College System. Right now I do not have any frustrations with the school. The application process and class scheduling has gone very smoothly. So far, the most frustrating thing is that it is in a different time zone from my home (I live in Eastern Kentucky)!

Zachary

I don't feel like I learn here-that the professors are teaching to a test and not to their students' needs.

Elizabeth

Scheduling classes for the semester to come is really frustrating. For example, registering for upcoming fall semesters is difficult because incoming freshman get to schedule their classes before and during when current students register, which would be during the current spring semester. This causes classes to fill up really quickly, and it's hard to attain the classes that you need to stay on track to graduate. Registering takes a lot of planning to figure out what courses you can take and when. It gets even more stressful when the classes needed are full or not offered for that semester.

Tabitha

The lack of healthier food choices on campus. I think it's very important to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, especially with a rigorous college schedule, and the food on-campus doesn't really cater to healthy eating habits. It also frustrates me that not a whole lot of the budget is distributed to the Theatre & Dance Department. The building and its facilities aren't what they could be.

Michael

The pressure to be in a fraternity. If you are unable to get into one, you can often feel ostrasized by others. Fraternities and Sororities are everywhere and extremely alcohol dependent and I dont reallt wish to be part of that kind of group.

Madison

Personally, the most frustrating thing to me about Western Kentucky University so far has been having classes at the very bottom of the hill and then all the way at the top. While I love the workout, when it gets cold I'm going to wish I had classes closer together!

Justin

The most frustrating thing about WKU is that there are very few on campus jobs available. I really need to be making some money because school is so expensive, but it's just really tough to find a job.

Brandi

The lack of places to eat is frustrating. There are not many dining choices on campus. I feel like I eat the same thing every day.

John William

The most frustrating thing about WKU is the on campus food company. Aramark runs all the all campus food and they love to rip off students. The meal plans seem like good deals until they close the cafeterias early and you can't use all of your meal plans. I probably wasted 30 something meal plans because of Aramark.

Rachel

The financial aid process. It's long and phone calls don't help, you need to go in person to get the answers to the questions that you want to ask.

Cassandra

The construction - but it looks pretty

Kaitlin

Again, parking is the most frustrating as well. It is very inconvinient and for commuters , it is horrid. You can end up being late for class because you can't find a spot.

Romney

The most frustrating thing about this school is that Western does not offer scholarships for transfer students.

Desiree

the most frustrating thing about my school is...hmm...well as an incoming frashmen i dont know a whole lot about it. but i can say that a little of everything for a freshman is frustrating. trying to figure out how you will even pay for school, books, where classes are, etc.

Arlene

Western Kentucky University is unwilling to offer help to it's students that want to live off campus. Any sophomore or Junior who chooses not to live on campus must pay $1000 to do so. Also, their housing agreement covers the full year; there is no in between. It seems almost like they are succeeding at trapping their students with fees. If I were to break my lease after next fall when I am officially a Junior, I would lose $900 and the room itself costs $1750 for a single semester.

Brittany

There isn't enough comfortable, quiet places to study. While the library would be comfortable, students tend to be loud and crowd in the library.

Julie

The most frustrating thing is finding locations that you need on campus. Though the campus is beautiful and truly a great enviroment, when looking at a map, you will have a little trouble. This campus is definitely large, but fortunately, most buildings you go into to ask direction questions do not have a problem assisting you on finding your way.

Malcolm

The amount of partying and how much social life revolves around alcohol. I also believe that some professors take advantage of their control over the class by forceing their opinion on the students and ridiculing the students who don't agree.

Anthony

The most frustrating thing about WKU is the time it takes for me to get to the majority of my classes. My dorm is located at the very bottom of the hill that WKU is spread across and almost all of my classes are located at the very top of the hill. This aspect of being a student at WKU is represented proudly by claiming the students as Hilltoppers, but I do not understand why almost all of the general education classes are located at the least technologically advanced, oldest, and most inconveniently placed building on campus.

Victoria

Western Kentucky University is a highly respected school but it is also known as a party school, I feel that, that is a very annoying part of my school. While I am studying I here people running down the halls yelling and screaming being very intoxicated.

Shelby

How I see so many people with bad grades get financial aid, but when you need help they do not want to help.

Scott

The most frustrating things about my school is juggling sports and school work. It is very hard and time consuming. Sometimes I just want time to myself but find it hard when I play a sport.

DaShawn

The most fustrating thing is that the computer lab is a little to far from my dorm.

Erica

The most frustrating thing about the school is they always run low on scholarships. You have to end up taking out a loan in order to make it through the school and most of the time they award you with loans instead of more scholarships. The school can also tend to be racist and not open to diversity or people who are apart of the community.

Kelsey

The most frustrating thing about my school, honestly, is the rule that you can only use four meal plans in a day. There are days, like Thanksgiving week, where I have meal plans for use for only two days, so I only get to use eight of them instead of all ten.

Whitney

The variety of food on campus gets old. Also, they do not tel you everything you need to know in regard to classes you need to take and how to get of here on time, you are on your own and are expected to ask a lot of questions to get what you need done.

Fallon

While the students and most faculty are easy toget along with, a lot of Western's own facilities such as dining or some of the organizations that "stand up" for students can be quite... agravating. Though they try their best to listen to students' needs, they always seem to fall short of what we actually wanted. It's kind of like asking your parents for a laptop and getting a typewritter.

Jillian

Probably the most frustrating thing for me about WKU are the science facilities. The labs are very old and the equiptment out-dated. I am a biology major so I am always in the science buildings. And the professors do what they can but sometimes our experiments are limited because of the lack of good, functioning equiptment. Plans are underway for a new science facility, but by the time it is finished my class will be graduated.

Brittany

The most frustrating thing at my school would have to be the same as the best. You know that beautiful campus that I brag a lot about? Well yes iit is beautiful but I also get frustrated because it?s also all entirely on a large hill, hence the name Hill toppers. This makes those 8 o' clock in the morning classes at the top of the hill so much fun. I am just guessing now, but I would say that each student who attends WKU probably walks about 5 miles a day when going to classes. Wow huh?
