I grew up in the same town that I now attend Western Michigan University in, and it is a good day to be a Bronco. WMU has been making a lot of improvements as of late. It is on the smaller side of the spectrum as far as universities go, but it feels like the perfect in-between of big and small. There are many extracurricular opportunities to get involved in and many student-lead organizations that are major based, which is really helpful to me as a transfer student. The business college in particular is phenomenal. There are so many resources for students that propel business students to success. The Zhang Career Center, for example, helped me pick my major by career counseling. My experience at WMU has been extremely positive.

During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to dual enroll at Western Michigan University. I took six classes at WMU and took my high school classes online. I was at Western every day and I really got to know the atmosphere and what it is like to go to school there. One thing I really liked at Western is that the central campus is very compact which makes getting to class a breeze. A lot of the buildings are new and artfully designed and the campus is very clean and well taken care of. In regards to academics, the classes I took and the professors I had were incredible. I felt like I learned so much and the class size was never too large which allowed for meaningful and educational discussions. The professors I had were great and they were always available to answer my questions and address my concerns. WMU not only offers excellent education and professors, but they also have many different clubs and fun and educational events. For example, I had the opportunity to go see an orchestra made up of Syrian refugee kids. Western Michigan University is a great school and has lots to offer. I really enjoyed my experience there and am looking forward to continuing my education at WMU next year.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I graduated a long time ago (1994), but I want to tell current and potential students how my undergrad at WMU has helped me since graduation and a few suggestions for new students. WMU was able to provide me with a strong background in Business, but better yet, it taught me how to interact with people from many different backgrounds. Throughout my career, I have worked with and known many WMU grads that, like me, are at the pinnacle of their careers, CEOs, CFOs, VPs, Attorneys, etc. and what I can say about all of them is that all of them are down to earth but push themselves to greatness. It isn't about where you went to school, but what you do once you graduate. WMU establishes that base and sets you up perfectly for this. If I were to start school today my suggestions would be: First I would become much more involved in student organizations (fraternities/sororities, student government, intramural sports, squirrel watching, whatever suits YOU), especially around my major. So much of the world today is based on networking and it's never too early to learn how to do it. Second, I would study abroad for a semester. The world has become very global and learning different cultures is a great asset. Third, I would live in the dorms for 2 years and pick an apartment very close to campus afterwards. Once you are driving to campus, students become less involved with campus life. Fourth, get an internship, but also take some summer classes. Different atmosphere and you can really learn from those job experiences and professors. Finally, have fun, because the real world is tough, but you will always look fondly back on your days at WMU!

I have been to manny universities and this one is subpar. They have some practices that draw you into taking more classes than you should have needed. I my self have lost $1000's due to their practices and have witnessed many others affected to a greater extent. They often rely on student workers to carry the work load and don't provide them with parking passes and pay them unspeakably low wages. Just because the school is cheap doesn't mean it's worth it.

Great community feel all the students are interested and excited in what they are doing in class and outside of class. The professors are helpful and eager to answer questions. All students and faculty really show and represent that bronco pride. Overall a great campus full of wonderful people.

I really like it! It's a very nice place, the overall color scheme is quite drab (brown and yellow? ugh.) but other than that I have no complaints. A nice, well maintained gym, beautiful landscape, and helpful staff and students. Excited to attend in the fall!

Western Michigan University is a great university overall. It's professors keep regular office hours and are always there to help the student, I've learned that from personal experience. There are multiple places to study and do your homework on campus. The Bernhard Center is an all-in-one place, it includes a dining center, study lounge, and a place to hang out with your friends. It is easy to make friends on campus because the overall population of students have great attitudes about being here. It is a very welcoming school!

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I'm currently a sophomore living in the dorms on campus, and for me this college has been great to me. They have dining centers that are really close to the dorms and other living areas. The bus system is pretty good, but at times they get overflowed because people don't like to walk 5 minutes to class. The winters are fun because to snow doesn't fall straight down, it's parallel to the ground most of the time and its cold, but being from Michigan I'm used to it. The sport events are all free for students and the hockey games are really energizing to go to.
